I was assessed with a genius IQ in fourth grade. After that, I was in gifted classes. I learned forensics as a police officer and college student majoring in criminal science. I actually go with 'black' because 'African' is not an ethnicity. I think the correct term is actually 'Negroid', but I'm certain that would offend. I read a poll many years ago that said there was still a healthy percentage of black Americans that preferred Negro. I always list myself as Caucasian, but that seems to confuse some people. If I have a gun, I can get a cell phone...probably the one that currently belongs to the guy who will arrive in ten minutes. One poster noted that this scenario ignores the potential risks of gun ownership. I will point out that I can lock up firearms, educate my family, remove the guns if someone in my house is suicidal, etc. All of the issues with gun ownership are related to the owner, not the gun. No matter how responsible I am, I can't mitigate the bad guy without a way to neutralize him. Today, I can generally take on one to three people who enter my house with malice in their hearts. I don't NEED a gun. But I'm not short-sighted. I will not always be as capable as I am today, and not everyone is as capable as I am. I want others to be able to take care of themselves as well. And even though I may prevail, I may not survive. A gun changes the equation in my favor. I like the odds being in my favor. Still, if you argue the issue of citizens owning guns based solely on the issue of self-defense or defense of others, the issue is up for grabs. You will note my right to keep and bear arms is not predicated on self-defense, sporting use, or other debatable issues. It is based on the idea that the People are the ultimate holders of power and must be able to replace an oppressive government through force when and if necessary and any form of government can and will become corrupted. THAT issue is not debatable. We may not like it, but history has proven it. Then, there's the ultimate argument. If you manage to outlaw my firearms, you have to come get them...and I'm still armed. I tend to agree with you. If you told me you were offended by my shoes, I would make an effort not to wear those shoes around you. However, if you tried to force me to stop wearing the shoes, I might ignore you. I let people decide what they like and if it isn't much trouble, I'll conform to whatever is comfortable for them. It costs me nothing. In this case, the people who are theoretically supposed to be offended do not appear to be and the intent was never to offend. Hard to get too fired up about such a non-issue. I don't use insulting words because I just consider it a waste of time. If you need to be shot, punched, or bitch slapped, I'll help you out. Calling you names is silly. Still, I never saw the names like Redskins or Braves as anything but complimentary. (Why would anyone name their team something derogatory?) I also did some quick research and see that the majority of those from native nations are not offended and even use the same name for their teams. I'm not sure what makes them 'fake'. It's a site that carries news. It just carries one flavor. Not sure how that varies from all the others. Nothing in that article indicates the news portrayed on the site is false. It seems to presume the sites carry lies because of the party behind them... They are gas operated. Dragging a power cord around your fresh concrete might mess it up. Sometimes, power isn't available yet. If that one was electric, it would have quickly wrapped up in the cord and disconnected itself or at least followed the cord back to it's source.
