  1. I have a big ass high def led/lcd 3-d flat screen, a bad ass surround sound system (w/15" sub), and a very comfortable couch. Every time I have made the MISTAKE of setting foot in a theater in the last five years I've been extremely disappointed and said I was never going back. Which has been maybe three or four times. Between the off balance sound that my system would kick the crap out of, the irritating people around me that couldn't stop smacking their lips, chomping on their pop corn with their mouth open, or leave their cell phone in their pocket, I cannot picture myself ever walking into a theater again. The most I will do is the drive in, which still is pretty good because both our vehicles have pretty impressive after market sound systems.
  2. how'd ya like the f-16 "unimproved strip" landing?
  3. lol most ford cars ARE european or asian cars now.
  4. So I've been flying a spectre 170 for a few years since I got licensed. I really love the canopy and even some of the ribbing I get for having a big ol seven cell. But I have really started jumping more and more actively each year. This year I find my landing accuracy phenominal and feel really really bored flying my canopy. I'm just under 185 pounds with gear out the door. I've jumped a buddies stiletto 150 a bunch of times and am also considering the pilot as well. I like the nice smooth (almost too long) openings of the spectre and how I can occasionally get away with a little sloppy packing in a hurry without much worry of getting slammed. But I also have worked on so much canopy stuff that I find myself feeling like I've gone about as far skills wise as I can with this canopy. I don't want to be a hardcore swooper or anything, just want something a lot more spirited to fly, something smaller and easier to pack, and something I can have a little more spirited landings on. I don't want something I have to pack super perfectly every time or else I will get slammed. Has anyone flown both canopies that can offer good feedback of the two canopies and maybe another I'm not considering? I realize this like asking what the best flavor of ice cream (chocolate duh!) is or something and that everyone has a little brand loyalty and such...but...hopefully I can get some good insight. Thanks!
  5. lol yup, my sign to to others is the soles of my shoes getting the hell away from them rapidly.
  6. Sounds like you made the right decisions enough to walk away and were heads up enough to realize what was happening. It also sounds like you realize what you would've done different. A good learning experience. Congrats on handling it and coming out rather unscathed.
  7. Thats too bad to hear. I'm spoiled here where I live. I have at least three turbines and like six DZ's total within two hours drive where I live now. Having a decent DZ within a decent drive is a major factor in where I may relocate to. I think the Tahoe Pac is the one that East troy/Skydive milwaukee has. Hopefully there is enough drive in the area to get another DZ going. It's beautiful area.
  8. Um I didn't know I was "bitching" by pointing out a small downfall to the helmet and trying to help my fellow skydivers from having the same thing happen by suggesting they take a look at it and modify their helmet. How nice of an overzealous ass like you to overstate what I wrote and put the wrong tone into my post though. You know it's asshats like you that prevent the free exchange of information because people are afraid of some dick like you putting words in their mouth and overstating things. If I was trying to bash on the helmet or complain I would have done just that. I'm more than happy with the level of protection my helmet has given my head. Just thought I would point out a small thing that was missed when the helmet was designed and try to save someone else from wrecking an audible. Something that helmet maker themselves realized and changed the design in on later models. Thanks for your wise and constructive input to the thread though.
  9. I have been jumping a mamba for some time. Someone hit me in the head on a freefly jump the other day and I came out of it ok (luckily...the other guys on the jump thought I would be knocked out), but my audible did not. Upon closer examination, I had never noticed that the face shield hinge bolt is in the same place as the audible pocket. The hinge bolt and nut had been pushed into the screen and shattered it. I wear mine with the screen out so that the speaker is facing my ear. Just a watch out.
  10. Hello all, I am looking at relocating to Reno/Carson city and am curious if anyone knows if skydive Tahoe is still open. I thought I heard it had shut down, as I believe one of my local DZ's bought their old PAC. Anyone know for sure?
  11. I had braces in middle school. But did have some retainers and such in grade school around 8 or 9 to try to correct things so I wouldn't end up in braces. I can see it depending upon how much correction they think is needed. The sucky part is being stuck with a small wire behind your teeth for the rest of your life to keep things in place.
  12. Summerfest music fest is just ending. Although summerfest BOOGIE will be starting soon at SDC......
  13. lol yup, you quickly figure this out when you ride motorcycles. Some nights get the shivers out in the country, yet warm right up when you come into a city.
  14. well I don't know about you folks, but I was amazed the amount of RETARDS that just though it was coller than hell that Travis Pastrana jumped sans rig. You all have to talk to as many IDIOTS as I did about that?
  15. It'd be nicer if they'd print it on an actual fold out page instead of a center spread with the binding down the center. There is a couple that I'd like to cut out and hang up for a bit.
  16. Anyone here deal with liquid sky regularly?I have been trying to communicate with them via e-mail to get questions answered with only occasional response or non at all. They still around? Having troubles? Too busy to deal with new customers? I've heard nothing but good stuff about their product, but am quickly losing faith in ordering a new suit from them. I work odd and long hours so it's not real easy to try to get a time to call during business hours instead of e-mailing.
  17. What are you doing with your nose and stabilizers when you pack? Propack, flatpack, psycho...?
  18. video pulled down already. hate to have something like this up that people could learn from. Too risky to someone's pride or their feelings getting hurt by something someone might say.
  19. You are a student....what does you instructor say? Does your instructor refer to the SIM or does the DZ have their own text for student progression? Many schools prefer to teach their students ONE procedure (pull all handles) for simplicity and so there is no thinking about it that could slow an already indicisive student down. Right now if I were you i'd be talking to my instructor, not going to the web to talk to anonymous people whom you have no idea what their experience and motives are. Many things we do in skydiving are personal decisions that are made after much research and weighing on options. These decisions should be made after you are much further along and more educated than student status.
  20. "you can fix a line over....but not a nut under."
  21. Christ if you're so worried about the lead getting spread about the earth perhaps you should stop jumping from planes that largely still run fully leaded fuel, mainly for no other reason than for your amusement. I love all the hippie "evironmentalist" skydivers that will berate me for driving my full size truck to the dz, or shooting lead bullets out of my guns, but think nothing of the "environmental impact" of their amusing little "sport". There is a whole gamut of other shit thats a whole lot nastier than the natural substance of lead that we are introducing to the environment through our materialistic ways that you should be a whole lot more concerned with.
  22. The pundits have pretty much called it from day one that he wouldn't actually run. He would have ended up having to open his financial records, and the world would have seen he's not quite as rich as he makes himself out to be. It was a publicity stunt and he's a tool that wouldn't have had a chance.
  23. In the "other side" video at :24 after he blasts her in the face you can clearly see that he has cuffs in the hand he just hit her with, which he then puts on her after he yanks her over and onto the floor. Indeed cuffs can be used as "brass knuckles" I've seen the technique taught and I have cuffs that I just tried it with to confirm. If you have your fist clamped around the hinge end or the lock end, and not a hold of the ratcheting arm they are at a low chance of ratcheting. They are a c-shaped frame that is very rigid.
  24. I was going to say not excessive until I full screened the second video and noticed that the officer reaches back to his belt and gets his handcuffs from his belt and appears to put his hand through them so that they cover his fist like brass knuckles ad then strikes her. If this is indeed what he did it is severely over use of force. When you hit someone in the face with a metal object covering your knuckles that could very likely cause severe bone damage and permanant disfigurement I'd say it's excessive. Your talking plates and implants on the skull to repair the broken eye socket, orbital, or cheekbone. Even if he hits lower that could easily break the jaw.
