  1. Yeah, it's Maine. I landed in this field around 10 years ago with the DZO, It's a long way out there & surrounded by only woods. No other place to land except trees. The landowner came out raging & was beyond reason, until we told him we realized he had horses & although we saw none we landed as far away as possible against the tree line. He did calm down a bit but was not really happy. It is very rare for jumpers to land on his property & I would guess it happens less than once a year. Don't ask why we were out there, it was a long time ago & the only way I can even recall what I had for breakfast today is to look at the front of my shirt. I do recognize that this guy has a reasonable bitch, what with the horses & all, but I would land there again rather than take the trees & face the consequences without a pine bough in my ass.
  2. Try this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Competing_harms
  3. me.... Paul, your reading comprehension needs improvement. Both Mike and I said that 16 & 17 yo can jump without a FB waiver. I mentioned that the FB waiver is needed for under 16 yo. Mike did not address that issue. The only thing that Mike said, that I disagree with was that at one time, many years ago, the BSRs read 'age of majority'. _______________________________________________ OK all you youngsters out there, here is the scoop. Mike is not as old as I & wasn't in the sport when I started, however, on this point, he is correct. I began jumping in 1961 when I was a 19 year old Marine. I had to get a waiver signed by my parent. As I read all the bullshit being posted here I recalled the waiver but was unsure if it was the local clubs regulation or something else. So I looked in my 51 year old log book which posted the BSR's as they existed then. Here it is 4. Age: Civilian parachutists and student parachutists must be 21 years of age or at least 16 years of age with written parental consent. FYI the total BSR's as they existed at that time under the PCA fit entirely on both sides one sheet of paper. It was orange in color, tri folded & distributed to the membership. It was all we needed then & could likely be used today if it wasn't for the lawyers.
  4. Hell, Bush probably couldn't have pronounced Embassy - come to think of it most from Texas couldn't either.
  5. OK. I haven;t seen anywhere in the USPA rules, regulation, recommendations, guidelines, literature or anywhere else where D = Expert Well, I'm looking at my D license right now, issued by the PCA, (that's Parachute Club of America for you newbies) in 1962 that says "EXPERT (Class D)"
  6. Hope this helps http://www.amazon.com/Skies-Call-Three-Andy-Keech/dp/095033412X
  7. Yes All the states would have to accept other states CCW permits Quote Except Illinois which is the only state where you cannot carry.
  8. I started jumping 50 yrs ago this past August 12th. I loged that jump & still log them today. If I recall correctly, to get yur D license your log books had to be shipped to PCA for verification, & yur license (paper with photo) went back each year to be stamped & returned.
  9. Have you tried moving your nuts?
  10. Ah, but what if there's a surprise total eclipse of the Sun while you're climbing to altitude? Then you'll regret not doing those night jumps! Wow, I never thought of that. I suppose you could actually co blind, say if Rosanne was on the load, took off her clothes and you actually looked at her. Makes ya think...
  11. Hey guys, don't ya get it? It's all about money. USPA wants the money from all those license fees. I'm not saying that's wrong as they have expenses etc. Back in the day, you could skip licenses under the PCA. Very few got an A because it wasn't long til you could get your B. As for the night jumps, they were required along with water jumps. Now only the night jump is required. Really stupid. You can always avoid a night jump by just not getting on the last load. A water jump is a bit of a different story. You can inadvertantly get blown offshore at a beach jump. My club lost a guy in that exact situation many years ago. Don't know if he had made a water jump before. "Water Training" as it is done nowadays is a joke.
  12. "5000 for the president to address the issue" Read the rules of "We The People" closer. According to the rules 5,000 will get it into the White House to be reviewed & sent on to an appropriate official. If you think the President will waste his time addressing this, dream on. Nevertheless, I have signed on.
  13. *** MILESTONE: Birthday boy - - 2011 heralds the 50th year since my first skydive. Happy birthday. I also did my 50th anniv. jump on 8/12/11 at Skydive New England. Perhaps the old days were best. No doors so we could get rid of the beer cans when we emptied them.
  14. lie about how u got hurt? Be careful, it's called insurance fraud, & while you might away with a broken toe or something, it would likely be a different story for a broken back or the like. You see these insurance co,s. have people they employ, called investigators.
  15. EDIT: BTW, a more problematic issue is the people who leave you DZ in November with one number of jumps and return in the spring with some gigantic additional number of jumps that they could only have gotten if they jumped 5-7 times a day, every day, in the interim. And they don't produce a logbook because "I quite keeping a log years ago." There are a lot more of these guys than you might think. They always have more jumps than most and they always have given up on logbooks long ago. I log mine & just can't seem to keep up.
  16. Back in the day, jumping rounds, we would put flour & toilet paper or newspaper in the pack job so that it would. "explode" at opening when you are closer to the crowd. It would look pretty good. Flour will not be very visible at altitude. Smoke should be better.
  17. You are truly a high priest from "back in the day". I quake to be honored to read this. To be actually in your presence would cause a life altering movement.
  18. I voted for the experimental treatment, as I would like to live a long life. Having said that I know I could opt out if needed.
  19. Take her down to Eloy & tell a 160 lg. tandem instructor to go pick up his next student. It's likely that if she paid by the pound someone would try it.

    Which car?

Get a Hyundai. Not kidding. I have an 06 & it's as good or better than the 4-5 Toyota's I've had.
