I jumped 220, 260 and 280 PD Navigators during my student status, they are all very forgiving canopies, even taking into account I was far exceeding PD's recommended "student" exit weight on the 220 I was jumping by the time I got my A license (I am about 200lbs out the door). I really can't complain about them at all... they are also easy to pack. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

  6. If someone isn't paying attention, it won't matter WTF the other people in the sky are wearing whether they be flashy lights or neon canopies/jumpsuits. Kinda like the daytime running lights on cars... how many accidents do you really think they have prevented... likely very few if any. Also, motorcycles are required to have their headlights on during the day in most states, do you really think that if some soccer mom sipping her 1400oz "Atkins friendly" diet coke while driving her minivan and yelling at her ten kids in the back who makes a left hand turn right in front of you will suddenly be jarred back to reality by a flashing headlight? I think not... Just like the "spare air" question for water jumps a while back... this would just be another thing to break, snag, or contribute to a malfunction IMHO. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

  13. I think he means you only have to have a "C" to be eligible for USPA instructor rating... i.e. 200 jumps, 60 min freefall, 2m accuracy... etc, etc... Tandem Instructor rating still requires a D and 3 years experience AFAIK... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

  22. ...if you think that is bad, I flipped onto my back during my low alititude H&P jump. It was somewhere around jump 12 or so, I was solo doing a low altitude exit from an Otter, I jumped, thought I arched sufficently when I was on the hill but suddenly found myself on my back rapidly approaching the ground. At the time it seemed like an eternity, but it really was only about a second before I turned over, picked a heading and dumped. I thought I was going to get in trouble for pulling low as my canopy was inflating but as I checked the altimeter I was just passing ~2700ft and under a good canopy so everything was fine. My point... you usually have a plenty of time to correct body position and get stable because of the higher deployment altitudes during AFF so don't rush it... talk to your instructors, and just remember if you walked away from an AFF jump, you really were successful, whether you have to rejump it or not.
