No, it hadn't. The video clearly shows you're still in a turn. Ditto. I'll leave the lecturing for others. Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. --Douglas Adams

"Gee, Dad, I'm sorry! I didn't expect my rental car to break down in the dz parking lot! I guess I'll just have to stay here an extra three days instead of hanging out with you boring old people! Whoohahaha!" *click* Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. --Douglas Adams

Every 4 packjobs cost about the same as a jump. Screw that. I only pay a packer when I'm competing, so the team can dirt dive without time pressures. I'm a nice guy, always have been. If you define "last place" as being unpopular and unlucky in love, then I've definitely been at the head of the pack since I turned 17. Before that, yeah, I was picked on and shunned, but that's because teenagers (boys especially) are fucking assholes, excluding anyone who doesn't fit their narrow definitions of "cool". I'm tempted to go to my high school reunion and throw it in their faces, but I'd rather spend that time skydiving. As far as the women go, any woman who dissed me for being "nice" is just a bitch and not worth my time. There are all kinds of women out there who are mature enough to accept emotional depth and genuine kindness. 1. Stay at the IHOP at Perris, do the tunnel and jump there, then drive over to Elsinore (30 min away) for a couple of days. Both are great DZs with cool, highly skilled people. 2. Summerfest at SDC. Always a good time. If you get tired of jumping, there's always canoeing, horseback riding, or swimming in the pond. I stay away from Rantoul. 1 fatality/year average, need I say more? Lots of people, essentially a new dz for everyone, and lots of partying just don't mix. Especially at low jump numbers -- your awareness simply isn't fully developed yet. Skydive Milwaukee, or East Troy Parachute Club, or Sky Knights. Here. Here's one of them: http://www.dropzone.com/fatalities/Detailed/115.shtml Can't find the others though. Perhaps I'm mistaken, or maybe they're just not listed. Didn't East Troy have three last year? And they're not big at all. Flying a PAC, and that was new last year -- I think they were cessna before that. Embarrassing student "tricks"
Dougiefresh replied to labrys's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I was doing a gear check, and noticed my container was open. I said, "this isn't right, stupid packer". So I took it back to the packing mat and grabbed another one. Did my gear check, and all of a sudden the damn container was open again! WTF? Oh! You mean when you pull the bridle, the pin comes out? Now I get it! I got a quick lesson on pull-up straps and how to use one. is there any reason to get good at backflying?
Dougiefresh replied to Dougiefresh's topic in Freeflying
I have spent half an hour in the tunnel and about 10 skydives learning to backfly. Not just backtracking, but more like RW on my back. I can do turns and fall rate adjustment, and recover from a backfly to a sit or HD easily. It seems like the only place you'd ever use it is for VRW, and that's years away for me. I have this idea that I want to be decent at all aspects of flying my body, but it seems like my time would be better spent working on my HD. Is there any reason to get good at backflying? San Diego Area: Dropzone for my first jump?
Dougiefresh replied to sanven4's topic in Events & Places to Jump
If you're planning on doing AFF, I'd recommend Elsinore. I've jumped at Perris, but Elsinore has more of a friendly feel to it. I think you'd feel less lost as a newbie there. Either place you're going to be treated well and have nice amenities, fast planes, great instructors, and perfect weather. So really it comes down to which one you like better. Visit them both, ask people to show you around, and make an educated decision. Did you watch Firefly? Did you see Serenity?
Dougiefresh replied to peacefuljeffrey's topic in The Bonfire
Give Firefly another chance. Buffy and Charmed are shit, I agree. The whole witches and vampires thing is so lame. I used to hear "Joss Wheadon" and think, "What a hack". Firefly kicks ass though -- I was pleasantly surprised when my friend made me sit down and watch it with an open mind. So I just Google mapped this, and I don't see where the dz is going to go. The article says "1/3 mile to the south", but that's all built up. Do they mean southwest, maybe across grand avenue? Or are they just going to leave the runway and put the dz buildings on the other side? edit: just looked closer. 1/3 of a mile is not even close to grand ave. Putting the buildings across corydon road is more like it. Your Skydiving Goals for 2006
Dougiefresh replied to Dumpster's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
1. Get my coach rating. 2. Start flying camera. 3. Get my D. 4. Get good at headdown. 5. Win a medal in MWSL A class. Preferably gold. Basically continue learning and not hurt myself. I'm a Browncoat. Love the show and the movie. Didn't even know about it until a few months ago, but saw the whole season in a week. Every episode is like a mini-movie. Much superior to almost all scifi I've seen. I especially like that there are no fucking aliens.
