  1. Nice! Can I take it up for a spin in a fee weeks? Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  2. Search Hackey in WS forum and there are numerous hits. Here is one to save some time, http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=1503247;page=1;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25; You will find a lot of people use a hackey with out having had any issues but it has been implicated in some issues in the past. Will it cause a problem, not necessarily but read up and swapping it off for a different option is easy if you decide to switch Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  3. It is very confusing.. http://nylawline.typepad.com/photolawyer/work_for_hire/ http://sylarena.com/photography-business/work-for-hire-what-it-means/ I think that most skydiving Photogs feel they are independent contractors as they generally don't make much and benefits are not conveyed to them from the Dropzone. I don't know what the answer is on that but I would suspect that if the Photog signed some sort of agreement with a DZ, probably separate then a 1099 IRS form they might loosley fall under the WFH situation.. Interesting discussion though... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  4. I agree.. and will add the thought that many people should learn to fly the suit you have better... You might be amazed at what different suits can do if you learn to fly them better... If you do that you might find there is a good deep down feeling you get from smoking people when your flying what they look at as an infer-er or more "new technology" challenged suit... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  5. My post was in no way an excuse for one manufacturer or another but a response to Yeyo about his statement on "Tony numbers" being aggressive in terms of experience. I happen to agree that the more jumps the better and a progression makes sense. Showing the "current" web published PF chart just shows basically the same thing from a different manufacturer and not just exclusive to Tony, which was my point... If the PF site and information is outdated and a new site is coming how am I as an average consumer going to know that. I can only see what a manufacturer has on the currently accessible web page. Scott "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  6. Jarno, Funny, I took that "outdated" link directly from the top of the PF products page and the chart noted from that link says Min of 75 for the stealth. It is not like I made the numbers up or pulled up a old link.... Also I just looked and the 150 number is noted on the Stealth 2 page if you click on the "more" link. Here is a copy and past from the V3 "more" page link 1 min ago: "Due to the large wing surface area the Vampire 3 is not suitable for low experience pilots. We recommend a MINIMUM of 50 wingsuit jumps before trying the Vampire. " Scott "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  7. If you don't like the "Tony" suggestions 0 - 5 Intro beginner wingsuit 5 - 25 T-bird intermediate wingsuit 25 - 50 R-bird advanced wingsuit 50 - 75 S-bird experienced wingsuit 75 + X-bird expert wingsuit what about the Phoenix fly suggestions? http://www.phoenix-fly.com/articles%20stvari/wingsuit_selector.pdf Ghost and Vampire line at 50 and the Stealth at 75 which is pretty comparable to the Tony line... Seems to me the 2 have a similar "suggestion" for experience. I completely agree that the Monster suits offer an entirely different dynamic to flying and will bite MUCH faster so the more experience that you have the better. Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  8. T1i currently with a Canon 10-22mm and like it a lot. Would love a 50D or "gasp" a MarkII but cost and weight had me go with the T1i. Went to that from a XT that I shot for a number of years. Lots of good cameras for skydiving available. Scott "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  9. Personally I currently use a metal step ring and I don't use anything extra other than finger tight so I can take it off if needed. I prefer the metal as I feel the plastic is less durable and if it is knocked it might release easier then a metal one. Also the metal ones seem lower in profile from what I looked at, not saying they don't have plastic ones just as thin, I just did not see them when I was looking. That said if I am hanging on the lens for some reason the camera threads will break. Guess you could argue that you just broke your camera but I don't think that I would be in much different of a situation camera wise if the ring was plastic. Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  10. Touchy, Touchy.... Attaching a lens is as easy as screwing it on the front of the camera.... Trick is knowing the lens threading. CX150 has a 30mm lens filter thread. I am guessing that Opteka offers various thread options but if you have a 37mm (more or less Standard it seems) you would get a step ring 30 to 37mm. They are cheap and you would use it to connect the two.. Pretty easy... Not sure??, If you tried to screw it on and it did not work that is a good indicator the threads are different. It should say on the lens what the threads are, something like "37mm 0.3x High Definition.... blah blah" you should get the point. Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  11. Look at Both the T-Bird and the Phantom2. Your height and weight will do great with that "class" of suit for both acrobatic and flocks. If you have a Intro, do you have the multi-mode (clips) for attaching the lower portion of the wing below the pass through for the leg straps? It adds a great amount of performance to the suit. If you don't you can get a set of RSL clips and add it cheap. Also if you have a intro did you think about the $400 credit towards a new Suit from Tony? Makes a new T-Bird pretty cost effective. Either suit should be good but be sure to fly both to find the style that you like. Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  12. Looks interesting. I like the following description on the manufacturer page: "It can take photos, put it in the photo burst mode and you can take pictures every few seconds for as long as your memory card lasts. If you don't get a decent photo then you need to do something else or give the camera to someone else who can really use it" Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  13. To Add most know this came from "Proof" here is the original Skydiving scenes. They did not change too much between Fandango and this it seems... 19. To me this is akin to my becoming more stupid in my daughters eyes as she gets older.. She is 10 now and I get that roll the eyes look more and more. Oh well, maybe I will be smart again someday in her eyes As for humping through 140 HnP's, sure you could do that and the base line numbers might be there but most any responsible wingsuit "facilitator" will talk with a first flight candidate to see what their background is before letting them participate in a WS FFC. A well rounded background goes a long way to being a more effective and safe WS flyer. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

Awesome pic Phil! Looking for some really cool stuff from the weekend! Go Get Em T and J.. Scott "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  21. Scott, I am guessing that Ben had a nifty armored military version of the Neptune (or something similar) It would be cool to see the freefall data graph off of that. Knowing about the variability for those units, were multiple measuring units used? Also to get the exact distance and time, maybe a GPS.. Where were the measuring instruments mounted to get the best and most accurate readings? Thanks Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  22. If you look at the vid in the slow motion portion, you can clearly see the PC collapse from the Kill-Line. Longer PC would not really make a difference as it would go further out and maybe past the Burble but once the bag comes off it will just collapse and stop providing drag. I guess if it was maybe a non Kill line t might have had more effect n this case. Out of curiosity the suit looked pretty big so it was probably an experienced WS jumper.. What was the canopy (type and size) and is this suit canopy combo what the jumper normally jumps with? If so has he experienced this in the past? Scott "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

  24. Students sometimes ask about the reason i give them a High Fashion Frap hat. I explain that the top of their head is hard and my chin is also hard and the two colliding might initially make me unhappy but could make them even more unhappy if I am out cold What about a variation on the Slalom ski face protector.. http://www.sunglassesetc.com/ezcart.cfm/ses_/details.cfm,list,x,400,0,H5690072103,x,x,x/Ski%20Racing/Slalom%20Wire%20Chin%20Guard/ Sure you would likely need a separate tandem helmet as the TI but it cant be any more then getting a new line of student helmets. I have a open face helmet I use pretty much for Tandems anyway and I am guessing many others do as well.. Looking at Jim C's earlier picture of the student with the head right in the face (soft or hard) makes the thought of something like this seem not that silly. Even a Frap smacking you in the face can hurt a little..... Scott C. edited to add a PS, my profile pic was from "contact" with the top of a head while in freefall, but not from a tandem...
