  1. Hey I like the first pic with the kiteboarder.
  2. For once I agree with Kennedy on something. When I was in HS my mom, single parent kid here, was in my face about everything. Where I was going, with whom, what we were doing, when I was going to get back, she wanted to meet my friends parents etc. At the time I hated it but looking back now it was what a parent should do. How many parents now a days know one of their kids teachers names, or the names of the parents of their kids best friend.
  3. You (plural) need to talk to WWII vets while they're still here to talk to. They're disappearing fast. I'm old enough to have had uncles that fought on the Somme in WWI. Fascinating stories they told. Stuff you won't find in the history books. I agree with both of you. Especially with my generations, those born in the 70's to early 80s. When I lived in Vienna I came across some WW2 vets from both sides and the stories they told were far more intresting and insightful than any book or movie I've seen.
  4. Yeah I heard about that show on one of our local stations KROQ. One of the guys was sooo pissed he went after the producer and knocked him out cold when he found out Miriam is a he and they caught this on tape too.
  5. Most likely it is missplaced from the Iran-Iraq war. It's also only 1 shell, one shell. Wonder how many times our military missplaces shells, and other types of weapons. Wasnt the Anthrax that was sent to Daschel from our own stock? And wasnt it till USAMRID or the CDC did DNA tests and was like "Oh this is our own stock." I mean one shell that pre dates the 1991 war. One shell. Thats like me finding a spec of gold in a river and screaming "gold rush."
  6. 2 hours 41 minutes with trailers and all 3 plus hours. It was ok nothing great and they butchered the story pretty well too. Decent special FXs, but if its action and battle scenes you want rent Braveheart or Lord of the Rings 2.
  7. Bomber crews had lots of guts. I remember from a WW2 class in college my Prof brought in a tail gunner, he said the average life expentancy for one was a little under 2 weeks. Some of the stories he told, like sometimes the ball gunner would be trapped and the pilot couldnt get the landing gear down and still had to land. Or how the german fighter would take out the tail gunner first. Also talked about the fighter escorts and how the P51 was a major turning point for them. It wasnt till the middle of 1944 I think that they got full fighter escorts to Berlin. Before that the allied fighters would go half way then head back to England. Then the Luftwaffe would attack.
  8. Back in 1990 my step dad was offered a job in Kuwait, the whole family including myself just had this weird notion not to go. Thank god we didn't. But HELLS NO, I wouldn't take a job in Iraq, tax free, vacations whatever HELL NO. Other ways to make decent money out there besides going into the middle of a war zone.
  9. Ditto. I use to have an 8 inch Meade, sold it cuz it's just not worth having one in LA. I also took an astronomy class in college, ended up taking close 3 more and one was a semester devoted to optics and making one. We made Newtonians, Schmitts are just way to hard. Fun class and learned a lot about the optics too.
  10. Anyone going to Italy and thinking of speedy on their highways, think again. http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=oddlyEnoughNews&storyID=5148762
  11. Arnold's books are a good start. Also read up on nutrition. Before you start dumping money on supplements get your diet inline. All the fitness mags for men are basically the same basic exercises regurgitated over and over again. It's all about balance, good routine, good diet and plenty of rest. Also see if one of your friends will work out with you too. Helps for motivation.
  12. Uggh, now I'm really gonna have to pull a heist... what's a sabre 2 gonna run now? in the 135-150 sq foot range? You need a partner? Pull something off like in Heat? Looks like I need to cut back on other things to save up more cash. aagghhh
  13. I agree with you 110%. Know your enemy. I havent seen the video nor will see it (out of respect for the mans family and him). But I know what AQ is, saw it on 9-11. Obviously we the USA still do not understand them or how the operate. AQ is a new threat that needs to be dealt with in unconventional ways. Not by invading a country or dropping a nuclear weapon or saying "death to all muslims", and screw Islam. If you believe that well then AQ already has an upper hand on you. AQ knows us, they know what infuriates us, they know were to strike so that our emotions overcome our reasoning. AQ is not a group of thugs from the streets, it's an organization run by extremely intelligent men with a global reach and a huge bank account. It knows how to adapt to new threats, take advantage and exploit opportunities that arise. It's already reared its ugly head in Thailand, Malaysia, and southeast asia where it can spread it influence to radical groups. Look at Bali in Oct 02 or was it 03. An ancient Chinese general said "Know your enemy, know yourself, 100 battles, 100 victories."
  14. I read some Vietnam history books when in the 1960s they gave the soldiers M16s that would jam all the time and were basically POS. I cant understand how someone or the military could do that.
  15. Nothing against RAND, but to understand AQ and millitant Islamic fundamentalist through a 46 page power point presentation and bullet points. Sorry to be so blunt but that presentation is nonesense. You really want to start to understand AQ, UBL read Inside Al Queda by Rohan Gunaratna.
  16. I believe you are speaking of Alfred Herrhausen. Details HERE Yep that was him. I also forgot to mention an Italian magistrate Gianni Falconne. They put huge amounts of explosives in the asphalt. As he was driving on it they blew it up. Basically saying if someone or a group really wants to kill a head of state or important person they will do it. No matter how much security they have.
  17. If someone or group wants to kill a head of state they will do it. Just beacuase you 'think' there is never enough security or that security is never tight enough means little. Look at the guy who shot Regean, he just slipped right through the SS and shot the Pres. The Pope was almost killed too. Two of the best security teams in the world and they still got to them. Look at Yitzak Rabin. Now you have three of the best protected leaders in the world and they got to them. How about Pres Ford. Lady got one shot which missed Ford by a few feet, this is after Bill Sipple was wrestling with her. If he hadnt been there most likely Ford wouldve been shot. She didnt get a second shot cuz he jammed the trigger. Back in the 1990s the head of the German Bundsabank was killed. He had the best protection, best guards, best cars, etc. The car he was ridding in was top of the line mercedez armoured. I mean this sucker could stand an direct RPG and still drive and keep you safe. The front windshield weighs over 800lbs. Long story short a terrorist group made a bomb that would shoot a 100lb stainless steel projectile at an ungodly speed. They put this package on a messenger bicycle on the side of the road. Looked like your typical bike. When the car drove right by it someone detonated it and well the projectile went right through the passenger side, lifted the car over 25 feet in the air and flipped it over. Mind you this car is freaking heavy. The guy lived through all this but died due to blood loss from his injury. The drive btw was ok with a some minor wounds and burns. Experts later said that no armouring in any car wouldve withstood this type of attack.
  18. Kennedy, Is the process for CCW permit pretty stringent? I mean does special circumstances factor in it? For example lets say a diamond dealer in NYC wanted one cuz his job his "high risk" for robbery. Just curious.
  19. There are more pics and videos, but according to some the public should not view them: Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld told congressional investigators that videos and "a lot more pictures" exist of the abuse of prisoners at the prison. "If these are released to the public, obviously it's going to make matters worse," he told the Senate Armed Services Committee. "I mean, I looked at them last night, and they're hard to believe." I guess we really do need a "big brother" to tell us what is ok and not ok for us to see. Thank God for that.
  20. You mean Saudi Arabia not Iraq. Intresting read into the Saudi's and how money is funneled through "legit" causes into terrorist orgs. http://govt-aff.senate.gov/_files/073103emerson.pdf
  21. Not phobic, but sure as hell wouldnt try fried insects. HELL NO. Probably cost a pretty penny too, would rather go to another place. Or eat some cheap good food and save the $$ for jump tickets and equipment.
  22. Thanks for the post. I'm also looking to get an AAD and was wondering about the Vigil and Cypress. One more question though. What's the difference between 2 pin and one pin Cypress?
  23. How the hell did he survive. http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2004-05-05-nail-head_x.htm http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2004-05-05-nail-head_x.htm
  24. It was OK for me too. Nothing like Braveheart, but a good movie. Whenever I watch movies of a certain period I cant imagine living in that age w/o anesthetic, anti-biotics, etc. Damn those were tough people. Can you imagine breaking a bone or compoound fracture in that era.
  25. I agree with you. I too dont agree with everything he says or how he says it, but at least he has the courage to bring these issues up. They're not warm and nice issues that make you say "gee what a wonderful world we live in and everything is nice and warm and great and everyone is perfect and corporations look out for the little guy and theyre ethical and we can trust em cuz gee theyre responsible and ethical and the execs would never ever EVER be blinded by greed (cough cough Enron)" but issues that make you say "damn so this is what happens when a company moves operations over seas. Or geez some of those execs are greedy little pricks (I'm not anti corporations, but 10+K for a shower curtain, 40+million for a birthday party)" His film "Rogerl and Me" was viewed by my senior level business class to look at the social and economical impact of a company moving over seas for cheap labor (dont want to debate this). FYI my prof's friend shows this same video at Harvard Business School to address the same topic. He touches on topics that most people dont want to or would rather not address.
