  1. I agree with you and I would like to see a canidate like that too. Hell when I buy dress shirts for work I think of how many jump tickets that shirt would buy me, and trust me it hurts buying those shirts. But we live in an image driven world/society. You have to portray the image of success and power. For example if a Presidential canidate came up that was lets say disabled, in a wheel chair versus one that wasnt who would most likely win. Good example was FDR, I dont think he would win against any of the last 5 Presidents if they showed him in a wheel chair. IMHO FDR was better than the last 5 combined. I would even say the same about Lincoln. Lincoln was tall, lanky, and looked odd. Put him next to JFK and who would people vote for? Look at the stats for cosmetic surgery, men are 50% of the clientele. Two decades ago we were less than 15%. Looks matter, especially when you have such a visbale position as leader of a country. BTW. Congrats on the suit. I just got my first rig, well 1/2, reserve and container this last weekend so I'm stoked. Does that mean 1/2 a case of beer?
  2. It's his money and he can do whatever the hell he wants with it. My boss did trip a few years ago that was highly publized and man did he get a rash of hate mails and threats to the point he had to have a body guard and the firm had private security for 6+months. If he wants to blow it on a 1k on a haircut so be it. For those that think public image is BS for a politician look at the Kennedy v Nixon debate. That was a pivital point in American Politics. If you were in a race for the white house wouldnt you use everything you had? Even if it meant $1000+ hair cut, $5k+ suits, $2k shoes etc. Hell Bush has a private trainer, good for him. Some might view that as superflous or the 'common man doesnt do that.' But he's the leader of the USA and if it helps him portray a stronger image so be it, even if it means $1000+ hair cuts. Look at his suits, you think theyre off the rack from Macys or Bloomingdales. The common man doesnt walk around in $5k+ custome tailored suits that take 4+ months to construct.
  3. We already have enough traffic here in LA, why do this. Did they ever think they might endanger someones life? Disrupt major ways of traffic en masse in a major metropolitan city during peak hours and possible cause major accidents. What would you call that? http://ktla.trb.com/news/local/ktla-043004trucker-protest,0,1583392.story?coll=ktla-newslocal-1 made it clicky for you
  4. Do they "contribute" to science or "distort" it? I've read a little about them on their website but I admit, I'm no expert. Are these the L.Ron Hubbard people?
  5. Hey you forgot 0, they tried to hide it from the crusaders but couldn't. How about medicine too. While european died form the plague, they had extensive hospitals and public health. Not to mention some were practicing C sections. Arabic world also presereved lots of the Roman and Greek literature and culture which wouldve been lost w/o them.
  6. It's disgusting I agree with you. A 16yo boy killed a deputy here in So Cali last week or two ago. Walked up to the Officer, three in the chest and one in the head...close range. All this to impress a gang he wanted to join. His dad had a criminal record and so did the kid. Race, immigration status, financial status has nothing to do with it. Some people should not have kids.
  7. I'm with you there, current job not really digging it. Epidemiologist for me.
  8. I'll give you the Russian Rev was not exactly guerilla warfare (I stated that), but still a peasant army won against a conventional army. Yes the Army turned. I'll give you that one. Afghanistan? Perfect example of guerilla warfare. Small groups using unconventional means against the Soviet Union. Yes we equiped them, yes we gave them SAMs, hell they were using 19th century muskets too. But who won. Wait let me look at my 'revisionist' history. Russia didn't lose they just walked away. Then again some might say the russians were poorly equiped and not properly trained. Dont think so. Cuba. Happened 50+ years ago still who won. Che went on to start other 'revolutions' in south america, but didn't follow his own advice on guerilla warfare and ended up on a slab in Bolivia. Prime example of conventional army winning in Bolivia. Before mocking the examples I gave you and saying they are "incomporable" read what Che and Mao say about guerilla warfare. I'll leave you with a small exert from Che: "The guerrilla band is an armed nucleus, the fighting vanguard of the people. It draws its great force from the mass of the people themselves. The guerrilla band is not to be considered inferior to the army against which it fights simply because it is inferior in firepower. Guerrilla warfare is used by the side which is supported by a majority but which possesses a much smaller number of arms for use in defense against oppression." Then what is Guerilla warfare?
  9. Personally I think this law is BS. If you want to keep the beaches clean then outlaw, soda cans, chip bags, etc. If its your health youre worried about I'm more worried about what's in the water. I agree with bans in restaurants and and bars where the second hand smoke is confined but this.
  10. Really? Few example would be good. 1. American Revolution. We used guerilla war fare. Who lost? Please dont tell me the Brits were a second class army. Under your quote we should all have accents now and the Union Jack should be over DC. 2. Cuba. Who won and who lost? Again Guerialla warfare. If you disagree read some of Che's discussions on Guerilla war. BTW some of his work is used in some of our military schools here from what some tell me. 3. Russian Revolution. Not exactly guerilla war fare per se but still an uprising that did not use a conventional army, yet defeated the Czar. 4. Columbia. As hard as the Columbian gov and USA dump money, Billions, and use conventional means the FARC still controls a huge part of the country. FARC is a terrorist org and employ guerilla warfare, yet they have been strong since 1963. Read what Mac, Westmoreland and Gen Gian said about Vietnam. Guerilla warfare does and will win over conventional means/army when the situation is ripe for it. History proves it.
  11. Why should they? Look at our history in that region. Remember the Shah of Iran. Who put him in and supported him. Were the lives of his subjects like ours? It's not that simple. We know very little about Iraq, its history, culture, traditions and religious groups. We also support Israel ( dont want to debate this). I mean look at the facts, it's not black and white nor as simple as sit down, listen to us and your life will be better.
  12. Did you click on the link in my post? Well two post down. Appeasment in Vietnam? You get both sides of the issue...from Gen Westmoreland, ManNamara, and Gen Giap Supreme Comander of the North. You have three of the major players right there telling you what happened. Appeasers didn't play a role and if you read the articles we needed diplomats towards the end. Don't blame diplomats or appeasers for mistakes we made.
  13. Just curious as to where you're getting this fact from. McNamara would disagree with you. It was a variety of factors, this was one of them. But solely responsible, no. Read the following interview. http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/cold.war/episodes/11/interviews/mcnamara/
  14. That was a scary and very interesting tape. It was the Iraqi congress and you see SH calling people out and his guards taking them away. Half way through this tape you start seeing people change and denounce the ones who were being led away. At first they were in shock. You also see people praising SH and giving him their loyalty towards then end. SH was very good at employing Stalinist and Nazi tactics. There is no doubt that he was an evil SOB, but an extremly smart evil SOB.
  15. I wouldn't blame it on their health care system. Sounds like someone f-ed up, and a person died. It happens here in the States too. How many times has a doctor removed the wrong limb, or left an instrument in a person. It happens. Saw a story on TV where one left an instrument in this lady for over 2 years. Even though she was in pain other doctors dismissed it, until one took an X-Ray. I've heard some pretty horrible stories about HMOs, some that make you wonder if our system is the best. I have coverage through my employer, but when a friend wanted to get the same coverage for himself he was denied. He's self employed. On that note, I wonder could a health insurance company deny a skydiver coverage?
  16. I would like to see the food bill for one of those shows.
  17. I heard the same report, and some people found wreckage as far away as 10 miles. DAMN. NK said the explosives were going to be used for irrigation channels. Yeah right.
  18. The story said KJI was there 9 hours prior to the accident. Wish he could've had a 9 hour delay or something.
  19. Missed it here too. I thought it came out this last Tuesday? You can say that again about waves. Good wind for kiteboarding though.
  20. Hey law, What's the difference between prelim hearing and Grand Jury inditment? This is confusing to me. Why do some go to the GJ while others to the prelim?
  21. Like genetically engineered foods? Man thats a whole other can of worms. Yeah it sounds exciting and a cure for world hunger, but what are the ramifications.
  22. Also remember LA had a good PT system back in the 1930s,over 1150 miles of track. It was the Auto industry that influenced LA away from PT through the building of the freeways. Yes we needed them, but they poured huge amounts of money in them. Not that a good PT system would be a panacea for our ills, but it would help a lot.
  23. It would suck to be a kid in this day and age.
  24. How about the surgeons who participate in the MTV show. Anyone think they are stepping over the line?
  25. You summed it up pretty well. I could see Iran still having a score to settle, but Syria. Why would they invade? Oil? Also what would happen to Kuwait amongst all this chaos. Not to mention Saudia Arabia.
