  1. well, not exactly married, but happy together. We're together since '99, I started skydiving in 2001. He likes to hang out on the dropzone with me. He did one Tandem (2 weeks ago) and said he liked it best under canopy. talks about taking up hanggliding. So, I think it can work out. but only with special people ;-) Greez Chronistin ************************************* http://www.skydance.at/

    Pilots

well ... ahem... by the law of my country, i am a pilot - 'cause i pilot my parachute! probably not what you were asking for, but still *verybiggrin* ;-) ************************************* http://www.skydance.at/
  5. lot of haze this time of the year... not too bad, you can see the ground...but from 4000m not well enough to do any serious spotting, so it's up to the GPS on a day like this... ************************************* http://www.wortwerkstatt.at/skydiving
  6. 0:2:0 on the second jump landed so far out we had no idea where we were *lol* better get the pilot some glasses for next week! ************************************* http://www.wortwerkstatt.at/skydiving

  8. i often dream about skydiving, mostly "normal" stuff. except that in my dreams, i can do EVERYTHING right. bigways with lots of points, the perfect sitfly, perfect headdown. it all works smoothly. i hope to be that good in reality some day! had one dream once that both of my chutes didn't open, but woke before impact. next day in reality, up in the air, reaching for my handdeploy, i thought: is it going to happen now? it didn't. but my favorite dream was when, after another perfect freefall, i didn't open my chute but grew wings instead. really loved that one! greetings from cold vienna! ~andrea~ ************************************* http://www.wortwerkstatt.at/skydiving
  9. Great thing - if you know each other well. don't try on first date. but in a close longtime-relationship, it really can spice things up! (woman's opinion) *gg* ************************************* http://www.wortwerkstatt.at/skydiving
  10. Almost no women in this thread? well I'll try... with the sound engineer behind the soundboard at a theatre production *evilgrin* poor guy had a hard time to push the right buttons at the right time... on the soundboard, that is... ************************************* http://www.wortwerkstatt.at/skydiving
  11. strange ways... over here you won't get a license if you can't pack. (don't know if its the law or just common practice). And I think that's a good thing. I mean, I like it when packers are around (which is not always the case where I jump), so I can do some ground videos inbetween jumps or (after the last jump) get to the bar earlier, but it would be very strange if i were totally dependant on having a packer around. 12. 1:3:0 Great jumps, all 4 of them ************************************* http://www.wortwerkstatt.at/skydiving

  14. Funny that you should bring this up again... cause I thought of the situation just today. I started doing RW lately, and in just a few jumps learned to look for everybody before going anywhere... it's really easy once you're used to it - much easier than actually get any program done - but still scary if someone shows up where you don't expect them! Right, but still a little tracking does usually help Did my first 4way yesterday - no beer, cause it should've been a 5way... we had planned a high separation, and as we do just that, I can see that we got a VERY bad spot - so it would be a good idea to pull higher - turned around and saw someone above me - couldn't have been one of us, because I could see them all where they had tracked away, must have been the one out after us - so I decided to stick to my announced pull altitude, which caused me to land wayyyy out. better than any kind of collision, I guess. excellent advice. seems to work without thinking... a few jumps ago on a trackdive with 4 other people, we got separated and two were way below... couldn't do much tracking cause that would've brought me in the space of other people... so I just tried to stay clear and watched and pulled a little higher cause I was sure that no one was above me - checked my portrack after the jump and found i was 20 km/h slower than my usual average on that part of the jump - the subconsciuos reaction, I guess. Now I got carried away... too many words, I'm still absolutely happy after the best jumping weekend of my short skydiving live Andrea (and I got my own gear now... here: http://www.wortwerkstatt.at/skydiving/stuff/gear.html ************************************* http://www.wortwerkstatt.at/skydiving

  16. Wow, that looks like a whole lot of fun! Andrea ************************************* http://www.wortwerkstatt.at/skydiving
  17. Yeah, right, and I never dared to do freefly movements because I though I would lose my gear... well, now I can. It's really worth it. Andrea (unfortunately it's too windy to jump right now...) ************************************* http://www.wortwerkstatt.at/skydiving
  18. ... and Beer it was. After the jumping. I was quite nervous about the jump, rather ridiculous, because I was jumping a main I had jumped before, but still... Weather was unstable, I was running around and telling everybody about my new gear (and panicking...), but finally, the sky cleared up. The skyvan almost full with Tandems, a twoway freefly and a friend and myself. He said he would stay at a distance but still video my first jump (hope to get the pictures soon) Jump was great, a whole different feeling with a gear that fits! Almost as if you have nothing on your back... glad I decided to get that Mirage although I was getting unsure about it because its so expensive... Reached for the Handdeploy a few times to make sure I find it, alright, turned around to see mey friend flying at a distance, so we turn to each other and hold hands for a while... Then its time to separate, the canopy comes out square and stable (although I packed it myself the day before) , I dance a little bit... but not too much, as the winds are high up there and I have to struggle to keep near the landing area... Get a little distracted during the landing pattern by the tandemcatchers, trying to avoid them and come to terms with the changing winds, flare too late and, seeing that I will fall down, get my arm out of the way, which is good (because I don't land on it and hurt it) but also bad, because taking one hand up of course results in a turn, so I meet the ground rather hard and get a lot of grass and dirt on my overall... oh, never mind, I'm unhurt and I get up and I grin all the way back to the hangar, pack again and amready to go up again, without fear now, but... winds have gotten even stronger, so i decide to call it a day... and that was... my first jump with my own gear on my back... (still grinning) Andrea ************************************* http://www.wortwerkstatt.at/skydiving
  19. ... I've got my new gear. Well almost. The main is still in production, but the nice people where I bought it are lending me a main for th weekend. WOOOHOOOO! Now, please, someone, blow those clouds away, OK? Please? can't wait any longer... Andrea ************************************* http://www.wortwerkstatt.at/skydiving
  20. No... yes... maybe just a little bit. i know a plane in Graz (Austria) that has a stereo on board, so they play music on the ride to altitude...sounds cool tome, but during the jump? no, i don't think i'd want that... got my own music in my head. but that's just me. Greetings from Vienna Andrea ************************************* http://www.wortwerkstatt.at/skydiving
  21. Great story. I hope I can jump that bird one day... longingly looking up to the sky Andrea ************************************* http://www.wortwerkstatt.at/skydiving
  22. Good point, and your whole post is very sensible. What I wanted to say is that saying: "This jumper has 400 jumps, now he can go for an elliptical" doesn't work. Some are ready with a lower jump number, some will never be. Greetings Andrea ************************************* http://www.wortwerkstatt.at/skydiving
  23. that is what i have been missing in this (and the other) thread. how can you recommend anything to anyone if you don't know their skills? Number of jumps is not a good indicator of skills, people learn differently. when i decided to buy a new canopy, the first people i talked to were my ex-instructors and some very experienced skydivers who had seen me from the start. following their advice (and i got similar responses from everyone), i demoed all the canopies they had recommended and based my decision on my jumps with the different models AND on their observations. Greetings Andrea ************************************* http://www.wortwerkstatt.at/skydiving
  24. same here Andrea ************************************* http://www.wortwerkstatt.at/skydiving
  25. Thank you all for your input. sounds like the original advise i got was just some dropzone legend after all. sure i intend to open higher on my first jumps with the new gear, to get a feeling for the canopy and play around a bit. but i think 6000 ft would be enough for that, which leaves me with another freefalling 6000. jumpervali, that's a good point: but a reserve is usually stronger and more stubborn, might have different line-material to begin with and is more forgiving in its behaviour, so maybe a few millimeters more or less wouldn't make that much difference? but you lost me there: don't know if it's a problem with my english or with my skydiving vocabulary, could you explain this to me? and, ramon, - that wouldn't be a problem, if i ask nicely... thx again, and: more input welcome...
