  1. Dude, I only want the video where it clearly shows that for example on a 2s delay with all variables been equal a jumper with 48" will be open significantly higher than the jumper with 42". http://www.ufufreefly.com
  2. Start by reading all the info on http://www.phoenix-fly.com/articles.htm and then go through http://www.flybirdman.com/. After that you'll probably have the basics figured out and you'll be able to ask specific questions about different designs and other stuff that can then be discussed on this forum. http://www.ufufreefly.com
  3. Yeah I know but my point was that when jumping a 200 jump mojo and your new and crispy MDV Troll there probably are some other variables as well as PC size that are contributing to differences in opening alti with same delay. I wouldn't start drawing any conclusions about PC size and opening alti based on few jumps in Buda where variables affecting to that alti were very different. http://www.ufufreefly.com
  4. Yo Pete ! How many really is you "multiple" stowed 48's from 330ft ? Do you really have hard comparison on video where you can clearly show that when going for a 2 sec stowed delay with 48 or 42 the one going with 48 will be open constantly higher ? With same canopy, same PC's etc ? If so I'd really be interested in seeing that video. http://www.ufufreefly.com
  5. You know it paddy, you have to travel with style. You just have to have your own portable fridge. :) http://www.ufufreefly.com
  6. Yeah dude, what johenrik said. The most important tip you can get is bring you own food. And that means everything. Everything you can think of. Prepare yourself so that when the ferry leaves from Stavanger you have everything with you that you need to survive your upcoming stay at lysebotn. http://www.ufufreefly.com
  7. That's just un'fukin'beliavble. Big ups for this Jamie guy ! http://www.ufufreefly.com
  8. If you cannot swim, if that the case, I'd suggest having the boat there at all times when you are jumping or have a flaotation device of some kind when jumping Kjerag. According to the rules of SBK ("Basic rules for B.A.S.E. Jumping at Kjerag") "Before and during jumping from Kjerag and Smellveggen there must be a boat present into the fjord." So there always is a boat in the fjord, just in case somebody wants to take a quick dip to the refreshing water. :) http://www.ufufreefly.com
  9. Not a horror story... It was a perfect night, full moon, some snow on the ground to reflect the moonlight, just the perfect amount of wind to give me a nice separation from at that time an unjumped 405ft A. Opened up a new A and I actually didn't realise it was friday the 13th until I got home. :) http://www.ufufreefly.com
  10. Just to clarify this issue, I'll attach a photo of me trying out a demo prodigy last summer. Is that the loop you are talking about ? (Just trying the fit of the suit in ground and hence not wearing a rig.) http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/masaari/prodigy_loop.jpg http://www.ufufreefly.com
  11. This is actually pretty good topic and I'd like to hear more opinions about stowing big (46/48) PC's. I have been doing these 2 A's where I've been thinking about pros and cons of this topics. I've been doing them so far with 46", two times stowed and all others (like 13 jumps or so) hand held. The case on these A's is that they are about 95m high (about 280-300ft) but they both have some 10-15m high pine trees just underneath so you really have only ~80m of alti (~240ft) to clear the trees and make it to the landing area. However, these A's have pretty sketchy exit points and it would be nice to be able to use both hands while climbing to the exit and that feels a bit tricky when having 46" PC in your hand. That's why I have been thinking about going stowed. You really cannot fold your PC to your hand on the exit so you pretty much have to exit with the configuration you have once starting to climb there. So what would be your choice on an A like this on a 1-1,5s delay, go stowed with 46, take 42 stowed on a 240ft (280 to impact) A or use 46/48 hand held and accept the sketchy climb to the exit ? I jump troll 265 on gargoyle container and load it around 0.6. http://www.ufufreefly.com

    gear sizing

Search the forums with keywords "wingloading base" fro example, the topic of wingloading and canopy sizes in base have been discussed here pretty thoroughly. You'll find plenty of answers for example here : http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=927757; http://www.ufufreefly.com
  13. You might be right there, a one piece system would be simpler and thus maybe more foolproof. Could you explain that a little more, I did not quite get what you meant by "getting cut away" ? Did you mean the setup described here http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=11433; ? So you attach that with the backup breakcord to the bridle from the "bottom" of the SL device ? Where do you place the rapid link or the carabiner ? To the upper end of the SL ? Thanks for your thoughts on it bro, that's directly what I asked. :) http://www.ufufreefly.com
  14. I might as well post my idea of the subject and see what you guys think about it. I must underline that this system HAS NOT BEEN JUMPED by me, it is purely a prototype built (at the moment) for experimental purposes only. I've been reading these posts about different CWY SL setups and based on them I started to figure out my own setup, starting out from couple basic principles : - The setup must be fast to use so it should be possible to tie the breakcords before one goes to the object. This obviously is achieved only by usage of carabiner or a rapid link. - System should have secondary breakcord in case the SL hangs to the object - System should be kept as simple as possible And this is what I came up. :) In the pictures there is no PC because I wanted to focus only to the SL system itself. When using this system I always intend to use PC. Also in these pictures breakcords are simulated by pull up cords (blue simulating the primary breakcord and red simulating the backup breakcord), in real life one should always naturally use breakcord built for this purpose. Please comment freely what you think about it : http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/masaari/sl/sl_parts.html http://www.ufufreefly.com

    Spain locals ?

Hello ! I'm planning to possibly visit northeastern Spain during the winter, Barcelona area perhaps, and travel around for a week or something. If anybody knows any locals from that area or has info of any possible spots there any help would be highly appreciated. You can contact me via email at maretus(a)utti.org. Thanks in advance ! (Edited for mail address) http://www.ufufreefly.com
  17. I'd guess that the plane was Pilatus Porter, not a Cessna Caravan ? I've heard (and seen video) about Deug exiting porter and then flying back inside it but never seen (or heard) of him doing the same stunt with Caravan. http://www.ufufreefly.com
  18. How about Jean-Noel, the guy who manufactures Zak base rig ? Jean-No is very nice guy and the Zak is very good looking rig indeed. I'm sure you can contact jean-no thourgh his website http://www.adrenalinbase.com/. http://www.ufufreefly.com
  19. Why smaller PC ? The normal recommendation is to get slightly larger PC due to the extra burble and slower descent rate when using WS. On WS BASE for example people generally use 36"-38" PC's when on standard terminals they use 32"-36"'s. Still, I've been skydyving with wings standard ZP PC for about 100 wingsuitflights and had no problem with it. http://www.ufufreefly.com
  20. I think nobody missed your point but are you kind of missing the point of this sport ? I mean do you really need a "3min man" -badge and a number to feel that you've accomplished something or that you feel someway "special" ? It's the same with base numbers, not all base jumpers ever apply for a number even if they do jump all of the objects, why would they ? Getting your BASE number or "3min man" -number isn't going to change anything and personally in this sport I'm not that keen on any badges or signs of accomplishment, I'm just in it for the fun of it. http://www.ufufreefly.com
  21. Not sure if this is from the same event, but here is an An-26 exit I found on flybirdman.com. That is precisely from the same event and that is precisely Sensei Vesa riding the prop blast. (And some other guy who likes to stay incognito tumbling straight from the door... :) There is also a shot from that flight by Vesa http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=12207; http://www.ufufreefly.com
  22. We wingsuited from An-26 couple of years ago in Swedish Friflaj festival and by looking at the pics the two planes look pretty much alike. Sensei Vesa from Finland was really enjoying the high exit speed and climbing well above the plane on each exit. There might be some videos from those exits on internet but at least there is a pic of vesa shooting up from the ramp : http://users.utu.fi/vejuto/image3.jpg. http://www.ufufreefly.com
  23. Of course you can jump any object or any jump with velcro rig but is it the best choice for any jump ? Or are there better choices too ? In skydiving rigs used to be loaded with velcro, then people started experimenting new ways of flying (freeflying, wingsuits) that exposed the rigs to faster airspeeds and airflows coming from different angles over the rigs. And at that point skydiving manufacturers started to remove the velcro from skydiving rigs and today we are at the point where velcro is literally extinct from modern skydyving rigs. Now aren't we seeing this same evolution in BASE ? People are experimenting new ways to fly, doing aerials, flying tracking suits and WS. When you think about WS base or aerial basejumping, aren't the requirements to the rig pretty similar than doing WS flights from plane or doing some freeflying ? How many of us would be comfortable of going to do some serious headdown flying with old racer elite container ? http://www.ufufreefly.com
  24. Just got back from Norway from otherwise beautiful trip totally darkened by this terrible accident. I had the pleasure to know Darcy for two years and share jumps and just chat with him on that beautiful site in southwestern Norway. He was highly skilled basejumper, an absolutely beautiful personality and most of all a great friend. He was the guy that would give gloves to you if you needed them even if his own hands were freezing, he was the first to volunteer to go first or last, just to make other jumpers feel better. His positive personality and care for his fellow jumpers are things I'll never forget from this person. The sport has truly lost one of it's good guys. On that sad day from exit 6, he made the track of his life, he really had it going and he was truly enjoying it 'till the end. Fly free big man ! http://www.ufufreefly.com
  25. Yeah, just wanted to say that my post wasn't about underestimating or bashing your skills in base or skydiving, just wanted to hear Tom's views on how he came up with his recommendation. I take it that we are still talking about high walls here ? Sorry but I'm not an expert on European sites, I myself made my first jumps on popular wall in Norway and since then I've been jumping in the famous valley in Switzerland and the pretty well known wall in France and that's about it. The valley in swiss has nice walls and as somebody said in this thread the YO is probably the "easiest" jump there. But regarding the valley I'd say contact the swiss base association ([email protected]), they'll have the best knowledge about it and it's suitability to you. http://www.ufufreefly.com
