Wow, I just discovered this thread and jeez it's pretty funny. Speed... Like it's a bad thing that our Tony Suit BASE jumps last 40 seconds longer than yours... LMFAO. Glide and hangtime are awesome. Sinking out is lame. Yes the V3 is faster, it's just a fact that less wing area and a thinner profile means faster airspeed. Yuri is not typing out of his ass, and he even drew you all a picture. I feel obligated to point out that a couple of you guys are complete duschebags for spewing so much criticism and you don't necessarily 'know your shit'. You obviously spend a disproportionate amount of time posting instead of jumping. It's so pointless, it's like the same 10 people pissing on each other's faces for fun, only it can't possibly be fun, unless you're deranged. I'm only posting this in case someone who is more interested in choosing a new suit than pissing on someone's face looks at this forum. In that case, they should see what's possible with a Tony Suit. And if you don't understand this flight and why it's worth showing here, then you shouldn't be criticizing Tony Suits in the realm of BASE. Because obviously they are pretty awesome. Gnarly equations Yuri, thanks. Ren alerted me to this thread, I didn't know it was happening. A couple clarifications: I never said or meant to even imply that I was the first to fly to the valley at grindelwald! Dean Potter jumped the Eiger 27 times just this year! (sidenote: Andy West has also jumped it 28 times just this year and 43 times in his life, probably a record). I know that Dean pulled over flat fields in the same place as me (at the camping) a least 4 times. I don't want to speak for Dean but I'm sure that neither of us thought we were the first, in fact we were sure that many other better wingsuit pilots had already done it, years ago. Honestly I'm sure that Julian Boulle can fly to Grindelwald on his back, he's better than we'll probably ever be. And there are several other wingsuit pilots that we really look up to who could fly further, and who probably aren't looking at this forum either. Anyway it's too bad the season is coming to an end, we were just starting to have fun but now the snow is getting deep already. Cool, thanks for the encouragement. I have contacted 2 local news channels and the SF Chronicle. We'll see. It burns, for sure! No insurance... our vehicle was VALET PARKED at the Westin Downtown San Francisco - safe enough, right??? The Westin refused to even acknowledge that it occurred (no statement at all, just stonewalled us) and referred us to ProPark, their valet contractor... who in turn said 250 bucks max liability... so off to court we go, but this won't be fun or easy.

Stolen in downtown San Francisco last night. Black Mirage G3 with X-Fire 129, as in photos. Video from security cameras in the parking garage shows the guy... although it may be unlikely he is a jumper and knew what he was taking, here are the images just in case... just a few quick seconds, but click on the timeline bar to watch frames. Just to clear things up: Stefan Oberlander died during a wingsuit jump from a paraglider on the island of El Hierro on April 22. I was with him at the time. His plan was to jump from the paraglider and fly his wingsuit over a small hill above the normal landing area. He got his suit flying as normal within a couple of seconds, but after making a turn towards the hill to set up for the pass he didn't have enough altitude to clear the hill safely. He deployed early, and had line stretch and probably 65% canopy inflation before 'landing'. We were at the scene within minutes and he was in a rescue helicopter within about an hour, but died of internal bleeding a few hours later. I'm going to be off of email for a few weeks but there were 2 other jumpers there who read this forum occasionally and may be able to answer more questions if there are any. Stefan was a very skilled jumper and an amazing athlete in general, and he will be sorely missed! His flight will be long. -Matt

Hello Experienced WS BASE jumpers: I'm looking for feedback on suits from those of you who have jumped the S-Fly or are very familiar with it. Can you comment on the cutaway system or the comfort / practicality for its BASE (specifically) application? Objective comparisons to other suits would be welcome. Thanks!

I think what Fido means to say is that the wind at the gorge can be difficult during most of the day from now until about November, the exit points are not at all marked or obvious, the landing zones are small and difficult, and you probably would not have fun there without a local to jump with. The best time to visit there is weekends and holidays in the wintertime, when there are locals jumping there. In the summer you might get one or two in the morning (very early) but after that forget it. So unless someone volunteers to show you, you'd probably be better off somewhere else. ***
