Hello all ! I just read through the List once again and something catched my eye there. There seems to be two very similar fatalities dated for the same year in the same area where the names of deceased jumpers are very alike too... So are these really two different accidents or is the same accident listed (by mistake) twice ? #34 Alez Haseke, 1996 Chamonix, France Impact I don't have much more on this one other than it happened. #38 Alexander Haseke, BASE 429, October 28, 1996 Age: 28 Cliff Jump Magland, France Alex had 30 BASE jumps and is a very experienced skydiver. This jump took place from a launch point well known to him, at night, with no wind and under a full moon. Witness reports state he did a short delay considering the altitude available and then lost sight of him. Alex is found dead hours later by a rescue team. The rig is reported to be packed slider up (single canopy container, but an old skydiving canopy more or less adapted for BASE). The report went on to say the canopy seems to have been perfectly deployed. Just curious as those two incidents seems very much alike... http://www.ufufreefly.com

base-canopy to fit into skydiving container (to skydive it)
maretus replied to mostwanted's topic in Archive
Not all skydiving canopies use D-bags. For example most CRW-canopies that I've seen are freepacked. Packing of a certain canopy depends on it's desired opening characteristics and usage. It's the same with stowing lines, as most skydiving canopies use rubberbands to stow lines, most CRW canopies as well as BASE canopies have tailpockets for lines. If there are any CReW dogs around your DZ I'd strongly suggest you talk with them about freepacking, they'll have plenty of knowledge about that. http://www.ufufreefly.com -

Exactly and also you can freepack your BASE canopy (without the D-bag) so it gives you more space to the container. Overall I'd guess that if you get a skydiving container that fits your Raven easily it'll surely fit similarly sized BASE canopy as well. http://www.ufufreefly.com -

Humm ? What size is your Raven ? If you go for a rig that will fit for example 240'ish skydiving canopy it surely will fit similarly sized BASE canopy as well. http://www.ufufreefly.com -
On my recent trip to Swiss valley I met two BASE jumpers from Argentina. They told me they were pretty much the only BASE jumpers around their country. I do not have their contacts but the other one of the guys was a professional Tandem Instructor so if you ask around from the local DZ's you should be able to get in contact with him. http://www.ufufreefly.com

All I can say that there are huge good wibes coming to the hospital from the swiss valley... Hope you heal quick Will and I´ll see you again here next summer. If anybody has any info on how our friend is doing, drop me an PM. http://www.ufufreefly.com

Go with unvented Troll, you won't be disappointed. I've used large mesh with my old Troll and only when I'm jumping 20+ delays (like the famous terminal wall in Norway) I've rolled the outer cells. On my DW I use fine mesh and I find my old Troll's openings to be just a tad more tamer. http://www.ufufreefly.com

Heya all ! If any Zurich locals are around this week and keen on showing a fellow jumper around, drop me an email, PM or call my mobile. Would be up for beers and just hanging out or maybe some jumping as well.. Will be arriving to Zurich tomorrow evening and heading to the famous valley later this week. Thanks in advance, Markus http://www.ufufreefly.com

I've done about 50 slider downs with unvented Troll from various altitudes and delays (from 210ft hop'n'pops to 450ft 3-4s delays) and I can say I'm happy with it's performance on those jumps. I nowadays jump a DW Troll with vents but I still have my trusty old unvented Troll in my second rig and have no problem doing stuff slider down with it. Hope this helps, drop me an email if you have any specific questions and you think I could be of any help with them. http://www.ufufreefly.com

Huge thanks to you guys for arranging stuff like this, freefly team midnight joes had absolutely kick ass time on the meet. The draw was indeed pretty tough and huge respect to guys and gals turning those 9 point avg's. http://www.ufufreefly.com

I'm sorry to correct this but he did his A a while back on a different spot. Or at least I did an A with him some time ago... His qualifying jump was a B. But anyways, congrats to you bro, it's been all good so far ! :) http://www.ufufreefly.com

That is an interesting question indeed. Also would be interesting to know more details of the jump, was it slider up or slider down ? Going HH would suggest maybe a slider down jump but then again on one of the packing pics you can see packers pulling up the slider. And nice touch is of course the use of a sail slider but I guess it goes in line with the rest of the gear. :) http://www.ufufreefly.com

This might be a stupid question but why ? Why not join the regular tracking dives as a regular tracker wearing freeflysuits etc like everybody else ? That way you'll be able to work on your tracking skills and not have to work on flying "dirty" WS -flight. WS are great for WS stuff, long flights and nice flocks but tracking in its own is beautiful discipline too. http://www.ufufreefly.com

Yeah... Laugh as much as you want... But our highest cliff is 38m (about 124 feet). As Iiro once put it, Finland is flat as a transvestite. :) http://www.ufufreefly.com

I replied Eric earlier and received email from him, now I tried to email him and Brian to sign our team up for the meet but haven't received a reply from them. Anybody able to help me to get in contact with the next faxmeet organisers ? I didn't find any signup page from the vrw4way web either. Edited : Eric replied my email few minutes after this post. :) http://www.ufufreefly.com

Which PC ? Size, vented, ZP / F111 ? http://www.ufufreefly.com

When I was buying my first canopy (265 Troll) I was advised by Robi to consider a bigger PC for terminal jumps since the I have pretty big and therefore heavy canopy. I've been jumping my terminal jumps with mostly 36ZP, couple with 36F111 and few with 32ZP. To be honest, I haven't really noticed significant difference in hardness of those openings so I've been sticking with my 36. Totally agree on the tight double wrap on the primary stow though, that should do the trick. http://www.ufufreefly.com

As it has been mentioned, 3chips in general do not perform very well on low light conditions. PC1000 (as any other 3chips) do not have separate "nightshot" mode so that's why on night (BASE) jumps it is pretty much useless. Also in low light conditions (jumping during dusk or early dawn) the quality easily gets "soft" or "blur" and it looks pretty dark too even if there was decent light to jump with. So my recommendation is that if you are jumping a lot in low light or doing loads of night jumps and want to take some video for them, go with other camera than PC1000. http://www.ufufreefly.com

Damn. :/ Get well soon Karina ! http://www.ufufreefly.com

GOT MY V2 but having trouble reaching PC handle!!!!!!!

Are you you using the "base pouch" or deploying from BOC ? http://www.ufufreefly.com -
That is hands down probably the most impressive track I've ever seen from LM. I've seen many people cross the road from there but none as high as this fella. Very nice work indeed. http://www.ufufreefly.com

I've done about 40 BASE jumps with PC1000 and been pretty happy with it's performance. I've done all kinds of delays, slider down hop'n'pops to full terminals with it and haven't noticed anything weird on it. Anything special you wanted to know about it compared to other cameras for example ? http://www.ufufreefly.com

In Espoo, Finland we have this restaurant (ravintola means restaurant in finnish) : http://www.ravintolabase.fi/ http://www.ufufreefly.com

If you're worried about someone throwing their pilotchute through that hole, he/she has no business being in a track/wingsuit at all and should revert to learning to pull stable first Brothers... I agree with you completely when it comes to skydiving. I too (like Chuck) don't live my life worrying about "one in a million" type risks. But when it comes to BASE I tend to be anal about the gear I jump and if there is a "one in a million" type chance of getting something caught somewhere and it can be easily fixed, I'll fix it and feel happy the next I'm at the exit point for having one thing less to worry about. I've only jumped the Impact from cliffs and used the normal carabiners on those jumps, no worries there at all. But if I was to buy myself one, I'd probably go with rapid links. Just personal choice. :) http://www.ufufreefly.com
