  1. Not many, but I know where to find 3 sets of the RW-6, large, separable 3-rings Derek V They might be much more valuable than before! Seriously, even if just a very small number of rigs are affected, It is easy to see that using those separable rings could be attractive to someone not wanting to be grounded at the moment, and to allow the mfg time to spread out the proper replacement of bad rings. Not pretty, especially for those silly people with mini 3 rings , but who would want their rig to be grounded for a long time? 2. Some customers might reasonably prefer to go with the old replaceable large ring for now. I wonder if they could be made again, or how many of them are out there, somewhere, to be used. 5. It is not always your choice. They may require an inspection of both main and reserve, or may not let it on at all at their discretion. It does not matter if you have the TSA letter. 6. So, this means that many new competitors can enter markets where they were not previously allowed, correct? And this should be an immediate change - any retailer can now sell these products in the US, and US mfgs can explore opportunities in other countries? How might this affect foreign jumpers visiting the US or yanks going abroad. I realize that there were provisions to allow foreign gear to be used in the US for visitors, just wondering how this might change the details of how that works. For instance, a foreign jumper where the repack cycle was 1 year... Also, do you think that mfgs might prefer getting approval from non-US authorities, as it might be less troublesome in terms of red-tape, or maybe the opposite is true? 7. There's no reason to fixate on the roll axis rotation. Rotation on the yaw axis would happen which would also cause line twists. 8. My memory was that short term rental units, at a reasonable price, are available for those that would not want to have any down time. Of course this would require a little extra coordination with a rigger to be willing to do the swap when the original AAD comes back from service. SSK did the 4 year service on my unit in slightly less than the 2 week quoted time. 9. The old style orange plastic knife is indeed a POS and as others have said has been shown to fall apart when used. It is awful that paragear still sells them: http://www.paragear.com/skydiving/10000061/K11505/Z-KNIFE-HOOK-KNIFE There are other smallish plastic knives that are good quality: http://www.square1.com/manufacturers/square1/p1155.asp#4inchPlastichookknife People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 10. There was a dog long ago at the old Kapowsin DZ that would only bark at his owner as he came in for a landing. That was really cool. 11. The better jumpsuit mfgs will be able to help you without resorting to swoop cords. Things that the suit mfgs should suggest include extra large diameter grippers, inseam and outer leg grippers that will both sit along the side of your legs (instead on following along the back of your leg), double layer arms, cordura booties, padded knees, and of course an appropriate amount of wing under the arm. 13. Perhaps not spending a "ridiculous" amount of time and money would be a good thing for you also. This could mean just a nudge toward moderation. 14. I completely disagree. Not only is it non-intuitive, but the manual seems to have been written by people that were too familiar with the procedure, and I'd bet they never tested the usability of the manual on people that weren't already familiar with it. Are any of them intuitive? It's unlikely that someone with no prior knowledge could pick up a N3, viso, altitrack, and know how to navigate the mines. For the viso once you learn the unlocking procedure it's pretty simple. Bottom button to access the log, center button scrolls through the perimeters, bottom and top buttons control jump number. Unlock using the middle button then hold for 5 seconds and you are in the settings. Again the center button scrolls through the settings and the top and bottom buttons change the settings. It's two buttons! How hard is it? Disclaimer, I worked in IT for a while so I may be unfair in my assessment of the average person ability to use simple technology. A few years back, I had email exchanges with Mr. "L" of L&B, and he admitted (paraphrasing) that they spent too much time on the product and not enough on the interface and manuals. He didn't come to that conclusion just from my feedback. My anecdotal experience hanging out at the DZ/talking with others tells me that the frustration is shared by many and is not related to whether a person is average or not. 17. I wonder if their products might last longer in terms of cases not breaking, weird display issues, etc. if they are simply used with minimal/no use of the buttons/switches. My Optima II never gets fiddled with except to confirm once in a great while to change batteries after it gives the audible warning that it would need new batteries. I don't bother to turn it off or on, don't bother to confirm any info after jumps. I only use one set of warning altitudes. Of course it should not require such non-use to prevent failure, I'm just wondering. 20. I've seen comments like this a lot lately, and I understand the theory, but it sure doesn't work out that way in actual practice for me. I don't have to get very deep in the brakes to significantly affect the distance I would cover. This is with a Pilot at about 1.15 WL. 21. Alti has said they will stop servicing and making parts for the neptune. http://www.alti-2.com/content.php?300-NEPTUNE-NEPTUNE-2-END-OF-LIFE-ANNOUNCEMENT Yes, but if it just keeps working like it has. I don't care about logging functions, so I figure it will last longer if I avoid pushing any buttons and just let it do it job without stressing anything by pushing on it. 22. You could consider getting the older neptune 2 (used). Find one that has been treated well, you'll get it a whole lot cheaper than the N3 and put the armor case on it. I bought a used one and it is still like new 2 years later. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 23. You bring up the desire for a rig to, "last you longer" which tells us that you figure on downsizing again and again - that it is expected, or natural to get to a quite high wingload. There are many very experienced jumpers that do not give in to that. Everyone would rather have a tiny rig if there were no downside, but there most definitely is. There should be an equivalent of the "Blood on the Highway" type of movies. Being happy to just have a nice, soft, easy to execute, no stress landing is a good way to still be jumping decades from now without a limp. 24. How about this as another alternative (very small in size): http://www.amazon.com/Danco-Perfect-Match-Silicone-Grease/dp/B000DZFUPC/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1442955664&sr=8-2-fkmr1&keywords=silicone+lube+plumbing It reminds me of the little containers I've seen of cypres loop lube. Also, I like the idea of directly lubing the loop on the risers, along with the cable.
