  1. I'm figuring that the lease agreement specifically does not allow it, but that it doesn't actually limit what is allowed by state law. I think I've found an authoritative source that says it can be done, as long as you get the 3rd party buyout arranged beforehand (questions 715) http://www.tax.ohio.gov/faq/tabid/6315/Default.aspx?QuestionID=515&AFMID=11354 So...nothing to be seen here, thanks, sorry for the bother. 2. Before I ask the dealer's finance people, I was hoping someone with actual knowledge of what is possible could educate me. The situation is that I'd like to buy (with a loan) my son's leased car (Honda) when it comes available-as he turns it in at the end of the lease. I'd of course like to buy it at the residual value per the contract. Simple enough it sounds but I want to buy it without my son actually having to buy it first, my thought is that we'd have to pay sales tax twice if I buy it after my son buys it. Am I correct that the dealership can't allow my son's lease car to be "bought out" at the end of the lease by anyone but the leasee, and so therefore I'd be paying sales tax twice? Maybe I'm not even realizing what other cost I'm trying to avoid, but I hope someone knowledgeable can help me get my plan settled before I ask the dealership about it. Of course I realize this would not be an issue if I used cash instead. Thanks for your help. 3. Consider psycho packing. Search for it on this site and look for it on youtube, different people do it slightly different, but psycho packing is all about getting it into the bag. 4. So often I've heard it said that you can't sink in moderate brakes, that you'll just go farther. That is absolutely not my experience. Moderate brakes doesn't have to mean super deep near stall, just significant brakes. If the brakes are let up at a slow pace, I've found that flaring can be reinstated without waiting for recovery and result in a great flare. I jump a Pilot 210 at about 1.2 WL. Even without being able to recover at the end, I'm confident I could PLF and walk away without a break if I needed to. Using brakes to keep from going too long should of course be known to have the very real potential to cause collisions with those behind. No doubt about that. The ability/skill at using brakes to sink in a near accuracy type of approach, letting up as appropriate/possible before a final flare is I think a vital skill, so valuable when facing a really tight landing area. I think there is no other technique that work as well in tight areas. I understand that many people jump canopies at a WL that does not lend itself so well to an accuracy-type of approach. I intentionally keep my WL down as I have had the experience in the past of needing to put it down in real tight spots. 5. I think the best, for the money is the old Neptune II. Much easier to read in my opinion than the Viso. It will of course be used, but just need to find one that has not been abused. I put mine in the armor covering, set it, rarely push its buttons and I think it will last a very long time. 9. You might try this (skydiving duck cartoon) to provide a little comic relief and to realize you're not alone: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4200157#4200157 If your apprehension is because of the gear, then you ought to get someone to show you more about how everything works together, how it is assembled. This would include a reserve-find a rigger and ask to see a reserve that is open. It can be natural to wonder about the reserves since you don't normally see them. If your apprehension is because of how you will perform, then your tunnel time should be a big help for you to have confidence. Even if you don't think you'll jump, go to the DZ anyway and hang out for a while. You might settle down and decide to go up, or you can take the time to learn from others. I know that I've had the thought just after exit, about how wonderful it is. Ask yourself if you lose the apprehension after exit and try to remember how that will feel. 14. Yes, my son is at the 8th & I barracks in D.C. I was there Sept. 2015. I do know that it isn't correct to call it 21 gun...but I don't think many would recognize it otherwise. He was selected a few months ago to train the new guys. He is in charge of 4 (I think it is called squad leader) and has general training duties for larger groups. A few like my son together train up to about 40 I think, in support of the primary training leadership team. 15. How are people to know which products will not damage fabrics/webbing? The grease pencils don't have any specific assurance about that. 17. Us more "seasoned" jumpers might take a little while to get used to the characteristics of the more modern canopies. The technique used to get a nice landing is a bit different. I also thought newer canopies were strange to land when I made the change to a Pilot 210 after having a PD210 for many years. I now fully appreciate the different characteristics. I strongly advise not giving up on the modern wings. The Spectre's steeper glide may fit well with you, but the others just take a bit different technique. 18. My oldest son was there, waiting for a flight, said shots sounded like they were right around the corner. Everyone ran out the emergency exits onto the tarmac. The video being shown on the news of people doing just that may include him. It took about 4 hours before they could get away to a hotel to make arrangements for getting back. 19. You should not do this. Seriously, just don't. Not only will it be difficult to perhaps impossible to pack, you put a lot of stress on the container, including grommets during the packing process. You do not want grommets getting mad at you, they can grab lines and not let go! Your rig will also be less comfortable, and some other good reasons to not do it that I've forgotten. We all understand that you'd like to downsize, blah blah...but don't do this People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 20. From a quick look at line trim for the P01 vs P02 revision: http://www.performancedesigns.com/docs/linetrims/PL-190-260-Line_Trim_Chart.pdf it does look like the later revision is steeper along with the steering line attachments revised - "inboard". I think that using non-zero porosity fabric doesn't result in lower performance over time. When a wing is flying at high angles of attack (such as during a flared landing), it is very important that the airflow over the top of the wing stay "attached"/not separate from the surface of the wing. If air is leaking out through the top skin fabric too much, then I think it has the effect of separating the airflow. Conditions on the bottom skin of the wing are very different, with separation not being an issue, so leakage through non-ZP fabric on the bottom doesn't matter. If it was possible to actually suck air into the wing through/from the top skin, then you get the ability to produce good lift at even higher angles of attack, as the airflow stays attached when it otherwise would not. This has been done on some experimental airplanes, including a Boeing 757 testbed that had part of the wing drilled with very tiny holes and a vacuum applied to suck air into the wing. So, air leaking out through the fabric matters a lot for the top skin, but not for the bottom, as long as it is not so much that cell pressurization suffers People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 21. My guess, and it is just an educated guess, is that exit is detected by a combination of acceleration downward and laterally. Especially the lateral acceleration is something not easily mimicked when staying in the plane. Just a guess. 22. I have a stain on my SO's very expensive, nearly new couch (some black streak, no idea what it is or how it got there). My memory from decades ago when I worked among electronics techs tells me that perhaps freon type electronics cleaners might be useful. What do you think? What are the latest/greatest/or old school still effective remedies? I realize that it would help a bunch to know what the stain is but I can't help there. I can of course test different possibilities in an area where it won't matter.
