Why would it be unsafe to put fun jumpers on the same load as tandems? Everyone in the country does it!

Why no one should "compromise" with the Democats
Boogers replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
Okay, so let's say you're correct, that conservatives are guilty of hypocrisy for not complaining about Bush's spending, while complaining about Obama's spending. Now, by the same token, aren't liberals equally as guilty, for complaining about Bush's spending, but not complaining about Obama's spending? I await your thoughtful reply. -

Thank you, Wendy. I'll bet you can't get kallend to say it... He went straight back to the name-calling without missing a beat. -
Good press!

Enough tandem rigs to do back-to-back loads, but not enough tandem masters. So at least some of the tandem masters land, doff their gear, run to pick up a fresh rig, grab their next passenger, and get back on the plane. This has the plane idling for quite a bit while the next batch runs in from the landing area, and gets geared up and ready. It could have turned around quickly with a few more tandems and the fun jumpers ready to go. And they often do a shutdown after every other load. So if you can only make every third load, and that includes a shutdown, now you're waiting an hour and a half for your next load. Bring a book to read...

You nailed it. That's how I felt - like a second class citizen skydiver. They might as well have just said; "If you want to make more jumps without long waits, go somewhere else". A DZO certainly has the right to make that kind of decision, but it's not very accomodating of all concerned, and will drive people away in the long run.

Thought I'd add another "etiquette" question, after an experience at the DZ this weekend. Let's say you have one plane that seats 13 jumpers. You have a batch of 10 tandems arrive on schedule, and you have 6 fun jumpers looking to get on loads also. How do you schedule the jumpers? 1) Fill the next two loads with the tandems and videographers and make the fun jumpers wait, or; 2) Spread the tandems out across more loads and leave some room for the fun jumpers. How should it be done?

NJ dashcam video results in dropped charges, cops indicted
Boogers replied to ryoder's topic in Speakers Corner
If you ever listen to police channels on a radio scanner, you hear that kind of thing quite a bit. They'll make statements while in pursuit like "Suspect is making 'furtive' movements." I have no idea whata furtive movement is while driving a car, but it's like the police are making their case in advance for justifcation to shoot, in case it comes to that. -
Why no one should "compromise" with the Democats

Just look at what's going on here, folks. Liberals agree it's bad when the national debt soars. Conservatives agree it's bad when the national debt soars. But instead of uniting in opposition against out-of-control federal spending, we just sit around and call each other names. Liberals point out how conservatives did it in the past, as if to excuse their own president who is doing it now. Conservatives did the same thing with their past presidents. Everyone makes excuses to protect "their man". So instead of actually DOING SOMETHING about the issue, we just sit around and fight amongst each other as to who is worse, and call each other names like "hypocrite". Meanwhile, no one seems to actually express outrage at the spending that is happening - they're too concerned about blaming the other guy for doing it first. So NOTHING gets done. And our country continues on its downward spiral towards bankruptcy, which will destroy our children's future... So let's get past this: Just because a former president for our side did it in the past, doesn't mean we have no right to protest against another current president who is still doing it. It's bad no matter who is doing it. Put the partisanship aside, and get on with solving the problem! I challenge someone to have the courage to say: "Yes, I support President Obama, but I think his government spending is out of control." Go ahead, I double-dog dare you. I now return this channel to its regularly scheduled bickering. -

Fun game. But a point of order question... How did we get from "chant" to "grail"? Should we interrupt the progression to ask for an explanation of the particular word association? Oh, and "bow exit" is TWO words - doesn't count.

Because most people care more about the free-choice rights of the "mother", then of the right to life of the unborn baby... That's a lousy answer, but it's the truthful answer. Yes, I put "mother" in quotes because I don't think it would be correct to call someone a "mother" if they're going to kill their baby. A mother would nurture and care for a baby. Someone will probably get all mad at me now - I've impugned motherhood... Isn't it odd how we make it a crime to harm the unhatched eggs of certain species of animals, yet it's perfectly okay to kill our own unborn? And just think about that quote in the original post: there are more black babies being aborted, than are born alive. And at the same time, we think it's horrible that some European country gave the right to die to terminally ill children. And people think that Wendy Davis gal running for governor down in Texas is just super great, because she's in favor of killing babies. What in the hell is this world coming to? Okay, that's the end of my stream of consciousness on this topic, for the moment.
-
*** If abortion is acceptable, why does the number of occurrences matter? Because even though it's allowed, it's still a lousy thing to do to yourself and the unborn. Kind of like smoking cigarettes. It's allowable, but a lousy thing to do yourself and others. So reducing the instances of those allowable but lousy things, would be good. And that's better than a total ban, which is against individual freedom and leads to black markets, crime, and even worse bad things, like back-alley botched abortions.

New skydiver not feeling the 'it' factor

Keep in mind also that student jumps are "boring" compared to the things you'll get to do once off student status. Once you start flying formations with other jumpers, the excitement goes way up. The number of directions you can go is plentiful: Formations, canopy relative work, head-down, sit-fly, video, wing suits, free-fly, BASE, demo jumps, competition, instructor... There's something for everyone. And once you've got a couple of hundred jumps you start getting invited on ever bigger and better things. As the years go by, your fun keeps getting magnified. You'll find yourself five years down the road doing things you never even imagined when you started. So if you really want to do it, give it a fair shot. Make a goal of 100 jumps, or 200 jumps. And if you still aren't having fun yet, fine, walk away from it. But I'll bet you won't. -
They've recently changed their office computer system and I think that's causing them some problems. One I experienced was when I made a donation to the Team Trust Fund. Somehow, that triggered them to send me another membership card, exactly like the one I already had. The computer got confused and took my donation as a renewal or something...

Um, according to that wind arrow and wind flag, he's landing downwind with a tandem passenger, and too low to hook it 180 degrees... Or it is no wind or low wind and that is the standard landing direction for those conditions. top Well, that could be. But the wind arrow and the wind flag agree with each other (see red circles). The flag is not limp. And it seems like a good idea to land into whatever wind you've got. Or into whatever direction the wind was last blowing, in case it comes back up again. And on a no-wind day, a wind arrow is usually turned into the desired direction of landing to avoid confusion. So I find this picture a bit confusing in that respect. [inline downwind.jpg]
