  1. We? Sounds line "you" don't know. A gooch is a sintered glass crucible, or a valve for steam locomotive. But I don't know what someone would be doing with one of those in freefall. Is that it? I'm afraid to click "that"...
  2. What other donors have contributed more money than this? I stand corrected. I wasn't really criticizing your statement, I was just wondering if anyone else had done more. I don't really know, but can't think of any. Ottley had money, but I recall him donating things like custom trophies, and not this kind of cash. Anyone know of other huge donations like this?

    Line

Thank you, I was hoping someone would say that, so I wouldn't have to. Some people used to go to the hardware store to get cheap replacements for the French Rapide links to connect lines to risers. Only problem was, even though they looked the same, they weren't. The hardware store variety were much weaker, and could break, causing... well, you know the rest of the story. The moral of the story, like Councilman says, is don't risk using sub-standard gear just to save a few dollars.
  4. So we should disarm the police? Well, that's an interesting question. In the UK, where the police are (mostly) unarmed, there were 3 police officers shot dead in the last DECADE. Even at the height of IRA terrorism, the number only reached 12. In the USA, for comparison, the number hovers around 70 per YEAR. The UK population is roughly 1/5 of the USA's. So YOU do the math. So we should disarm our police to reduce cop-killings and make them more safe? That's going to be a tough sell with the cops... For all your self-professed math skills, you need some help with your logic skills. You see, cops aren't usually killed with their own guns. Taking their guns away won't make them immune from being killed by others. Tsk tsk. Factor that into your equation.
  5. So we should disarm the police? I think you should probably look at the statistics of police and their gun related suicides and homicides of family members. Go ahead. Report what you find. We'll wait. It's your theory - you post the numbers, and your source. People who want to commit suicide, will do so by whatever means available. If you take their guns away, they'll jump off a bridge instead. How many cops do you think we'll have if you disarm them and then tell them to go out on the street and catch bad guys?
  6. Hell, if I had that kind of money to splurge on a skydiving membership, I'd just give it to the AAD fund.

    Iron Sky

Hey, a lot of the old Wonder Woman episodes in reruns have her fighting Nazis. And I can watch Lynda Carter all day. Who cares about the story line! [inline LCWWN.jpg]
  9. No, I'm saying Republicans are so stupid they will cut off their noses to spite their faces. And democrats will destroy the country and give it away to illegal foreigners, as long as those illegals vote for them. I'll take the folks who stand on principle, thank you.

Doesn't mean nothing.
  11. So instead of waiting for the government to over-regulate us, we'll just over-regulate ourselves. I'm not so sure that's an improvement...
  12. Maybe we could help you more if we knew what a "gooch" is.
  13. I am SO stealing that! I stole it from that old joke about "vegetarian" being an old Indian word for "hunts poorly".

  15. No shit, there we were, thought we were going to die... of boredom. Windy day, too windy to jump. Wide open airport all to ourselves. Plenty of grass in all directions. We had this brainstorm idea to tie an old round chute to a piece of 4' x 8' plywood, and make a wind-pulled toboggan (sled) out of it. We cut slots in the front edge of the plywood, and attached the risers there. Piled some people on top of the plywood, inflated the chute, and off they went! Yee haw! Problem: The front edge of the plywood kind of digs into the grass and dirt, scooping up enormous amounts and throwing it back onto the riders. Solution: wear goggles. Problem: How do you stop this thing? When the fenceline approaches at the downwind end of the field, everyone just rolled off the plywood, and the chute no longer had enough resistance to keep it inflated. Better solution: Attach a cutaway system to the risers. Load it all up into the back of a pickup truck, go back upwind, repeat. Good times, and no one was hurt, except for some scrapes and splinters.
  16. Desegregation? Corrected:"stopped DEsegregation..." Thanks.
  17. So what have the white kids learned from this event? They've learned that next year they'll have to threaten violence also, in order to stop the display of Mexican flags. And that will be oh so wonderful with both sides threatening violence. Courtesy of our government political correctness courts.
  18. Back in the 60's when segregation was coming to an end, a whole bunch of white folks threatened violence if the government let black kids into a white school. Governor Wallace even stood at the entrance door to block their path. The National Guard was called out to protect those black students and ensure their safety. If only they had stopped desegregation because of the threat of violence! Drat! Yes, this court ruling is a bad thing. You CANNOT allow people who threaten violence to decide which constitutional rights can be exercised. The proper response is to provide enough law enforcement to prevent violence, and to catch and punish those who start it.
  19. Wow! Mike, as I recall, was the one who started that fund. That's really putting your money where your mouth is! Mike, after seeing so many other national teams being sponsored by governments, and knowing that this wouldn't happen for the U.S., he started the fund to provide perpetual assistance to our own US team. It's not big enough yet to pay for 100% of expenses, but competitors today are a lot better off than they were before the fund.

    Gun Ads?

I thought Dropzone.com only allowed gun stuff in Speaker's Corner? Now they're allowing gun stuff in banner ads! [inline DZCGA.jpg]
  21. It's funny how you guys are focusing on the source of the news, rather than on the news itself, or the issue attendent with it. It's kind of like that other thread on the national debt, where no once cares to actually talk about the debt, all they can do is point fingers at each other as to who did it firstest or mostest. I'll go look for intelligent conversation elsewhereist.
  22. That story exists in other forms in plenty of more mainstream news outlets too. Don't disregard simply because you don't like that one source.
