  1. hey there... you're very welcome. i have been going through my pix from batavia... putting together a shutterfly account too & i don't have any pictures of you. I know jimmy has some good ones though. matt
  2. there is a bit of info about the line trim modifications on icarus' website -> Here I'm pretty sure there is at least a couple threads on this subject in the Gear & Rigging section from a while back with more detailed information. matt
  3. there may be a big crowd gathered round you if you attempt to heist blue eyes. just a fair warning. plus she'd probably kick your butt & outwitt you swiftly with her superior intelligence.
  4. I've used a blower on my D70 & followed the directions in the manual. Thankfully with the D70 you can't get to the actual sensor so you are cleaning the scrim/protective layer above it. I got most of the stuff off, but there are a few new smaller spots that I have to work on. so it seems like a process you have to be very cautious with and repeat a bunch of times. be carefull if you use any sort of compressed air b/c it will pick up moisture & spit it towards you sensor. matt
  5. thanks Chris. I've got a handful of you swooping so if you want the full res pix PM me an e-mail that will handle the larger files, or figure something out that will work for you, and i'll get them to you. I've already done some editing & am toying with the idea of getting a shutterfly account so people can pick them up if they'd like. Maybe i can talk someone from frontier into making a site to combine all the Batavia Boogie pix, some video, thoughts & such... matt
  6. Right along Interstate 90 between Buffalo & Rochester, NY. aka... Western New York. Part of the Great Lakes Region. across Lake Ontario from Toronto, CA.
  7. You're right Chris... I did learn alot from Amy in just a couple jumps. Time for a couple pictures i shot on the ground. matt
  8. see you then... Try to get out thursday night if you can. There may just be night jumps & POPs jumps too. (I got the lights finished.) matt
  9. everything is up & ready... or very close to ready. The plane should be in this afternoon. People have already gathered. THE BEACON IS WAITING... ASK THE BEACON MASTER.
  10. A decent crowd from Frontier Skydivers is already gathered. The Tents are up, most of the trailers & campers are ready. Plenty of covered packing area... with Jimmy T's planes flying overhead. Manifest should be operational today. The CASA will be there sometime this afternoon. There is plenty of spectator area on the hill with a handfull of picnic tables. Now i've just got to get the helmet lights put together for the POPs-way & nights jumps thursday. matt
  11. there goes my idea... grrr. hope you get it straightened out. i know my transfers will have trouble if there are any other programs running other than the edit software. matt
  12. the only thing that i think may snag you... at least up here there is a thing called "work for hire" which depending on the terms of your agreement, contract or waiver the person that paid is the owner if the images. so everything I shoot at work is property of the station & it's parent company dispite the fact that it came from me. the same goes for when i've shot a few freelance gigs the one that employed me retained the rights to the work. i don't want to be playing devil's advocate, but just make you aware of another possible arguement. i keep tight rein on my personal photos... then again i didn't mind when my friend wanted to use a photo in his band's first CD so long as he gave me photo credit. matt
  13. may be a silly question, but what mode are you in when you plug in the camer?? VTR or Cam?
  14. i'm looking forward too it. no matter what number i'm at a hybrid at the boogie sounds like fun to work on... especially after 32.25 hrs of OT in the last week. all but 8 of that from wed/thurs. i'm tired & ready for some jumps. matt
  15. i've heard that... sounds good to me. i need/want to progress my flying skills. matt
  16. bump... Jimmy i'll PM you the details, but the busier i get the more it looks like either the weekend of the 1st or the batavia boogie will push me to 200 so you may just have to get on a hybrid or i'll have to spend some time on my belly. matt
  17. in my experience with NLEs with an internal DVD burner you have to convert the video to MPEG-2 either with the edit software or export to one such as Sorensen Squeeze. then once the coversion is complete open up DVD authoring software such as Nero, or DVD-it, etc... create the DVD layout & then burn it to disc. correct me if i'm wrong... you should be able to "export to tape" with a camera, VTR, or external "stand alone" DVD recorder. check out the other thread on DVD burning in this forum. matt
  18. IMHO opinion Pat has it nailed with the difference between Data & Video. Some devices MAY need the/a data stream to recognize the video, but i've already tested the output of premeire to my camera & a couple devices at work. I'm going to have to catch up with Pat & see what he's got going this weekend. matt
  19. ah... but AVID (& i believe premiere) has a feature that outputs a stream of video for preview that can be viewed on any firewire video device so long as the input is set to i-link. or you can use the "Digital Cut" feature to output the timeline/segment/program to tape or other DV device. I've done it a bunch. the wildcard as you said is the recorder. matt
  20. no offense you guys, but if i was the assignment editor or manager I'd rather put our own people & equipment to work if they were available & then stick your footage in as icing on the cake if management went for it. Chop Chop - you got a pretty good penny.
  21. that's basically what i was hoping for... to edit on my laptop & output realtime to a burner without having to do all the encoding that it normally takes. you're right you really don't need the timecode, but it does come in handy. the other side is that i hate to have a DV camera that cost a lot dumped down through analog cables then back to a digital format on a DVD. to me that isn't truely digital or lossless & i wouldn't want to market myself to a customer by telling them it's digital when you're running composite cables. matt
  22. here i was thinking that this... "Compatible wtih i.LINK/FireWire through DV input" meant it had firewire. they must be getting designers from JVC
  23. Ran into this on sony's site... figured it may be of interest to some of you. DVDirect on sonystyle.com under computers -> CD/DVD burners -> DVDirect matt
  24. just because you're new don't undersell yourself... be open to work out a rate that works for you and your customer, but don't forget all the money on equipment, time (years) you've been playing around to get good, especially all the running around the day of as well as any & all behind the scenes work (editing/processing/etc...) that the customers don't see. If you want... sit down, write up a list & attach $ amounts to each part with an hourly rate or something just to come up with a total. I just had a friend call me. turns out the wedding is the day of my home DZ's Batavia Boogie so i can't make it, but their broke & only now are scratching for someone to do the video. Sorry, IMHO a couple hundred dollars isn't going to cover my equipment rental, or materials alone, or make me want to lug 60 pounds of gear around all day, chase wireless mics from people that are running away with them, or make me want to shoot the whole ceremony, & "the important parts of the reception." it's probably a minimum of a 10-12 hr day with almost as much editing time, plus making copies or DVD authoring. I have completely learned that lesson from my mentor... thanks tom. matt p.s. depending on what you handle post production wise or processing i can't imagine less that $750-1000 for a basic all day set with some simple prints that they can choose from & buy more in packages.
  25. hi pat... not that i fly camera yet, but i just saw some nice bags at EMS this afternoon that may accomidate your gear along with some foam padding/dividers and i was wondering how they'd work out for skydiving. unfortunately the twice-a-year 20% off sale was thurs-sat matt
