  1. i just got another e-mail from him saying, "I give in 2 weeks, complete helmet." (the 350 version) So that is way ahead of when i thought it may have been done.
  2. i just checked my e-mail ,and if i understand him correctly, he has helmets for the PC350 & PC109 and is finishing up one for the HC40. matt
  3. i heard from him a couple weeks ago. so it shouldn't be too long from now, but i'm not in much of a hurry... with the winter up here i probably won't be jumping until spring unless I go to freezefest. any way. i'll post when i hear more matt
  4. I talked with RAWA about that very thing. Radir e-mailed me November 8th that he had ordered a 350 to make the enclosure for and that it would be done: "30 to 40 days" to have a helmet for the PC 350. So not too long from now one may be ready. The english version of their site wasn't complete last time i checked, but it has contact information on there. http://www.rawa.com.br matt
  5. i concur with jp... that expensive camera has a very very long lens. long lenses tend to compress the image making far away things look closer. Think of a crowd shot at a concert where it looks like there are dozens of people standing in the same square foot. in reality they may be quite a distance away. matt
  6. not to hijack the thread, but what mod did you have put on your D70 for the tongue/bite switch? matt
  7. Quade correct me if i'm wrong.. brok3n you said, isn't all NTSC video, aka... never the same color, interlaced? So why would you need to output in progressive scan?? matt
  8. try sorenson to encode and sonic reel dvd to build and burn...
  9. go read about them here --> www.dpreview.com 300D 20D D100 D70 www.harbortronics.com says on their home page, "COMING SOON! Harbortronics will soon have a D70 vertical grip available." So that may just be a good way to add a remote plug without voiding the warrenty for the D70.
  10. could you please do us all a favor?? Please? I'll even give you a quick lesson... hit reply post style --> markup click the little "URL" button stick in your URL Click the "/url" to end the link thanks. matt

  12. you mentioned firewire and the only place they'd be is a DVD burner (aside from a camera or dv deck) in the flow of video production that i've seen at a DZ unless you're into NLE, which is more time consuming for most places than making a dub... that and some people at my DZ are already considering moving to dubbing to DVD instead of or in conjunction with VHS. I hooked up an older prosumer S-VHS deck to one of the videographer's systems from my DZ. It has S-Video in and out. That may be a good option if you can find some on e-bay. Or floating around somewhere. here's one similar to what i got for a friend I believe her's was actually the AG-1970 model... only she didn't pay nearly as much: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=21168&item=3850889944&rd=1 A few others: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3319&item=3850917646&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=21168&item=3851048611&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=21168&item=3851212716&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=21166&item=3851232426&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=21168&item=3851379541&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=67830&item=5730753004&rd=1 or just search for Panasonic S-VHS or PANASONIC AG-1960 or [url]PANASONIC AG-1970 matt
  13. 10% of the cost of a stereo is a little excessive on your part. A few weeks ago my friends father wanted help connected his home stereo/DVD sys. he had most of the cables that would work well enough, but we decided to get the 2 S-video cables and an optical cable for the 5.1. Something like $35 dollars later and a whole lot less wiring mess as well as time he was very happy with the result. so for about 1.75% of his stereo system we improved the picture and sound quality dramatically. he was happy...
  14. if you've got crappy cables with crappy shielding or lower grade connections that equates to signal loss. signal loss works out to being a less spectacular image in the long run. and about the, "And consumer VCRs won't even take Svideo in, nevermind firewire." A handful of stand alone DVD burners do have varying degrees of firewire capability. Sure your $40 walmart special VCR may not have an S input, but what's the point of having a $500 or $1000 worth of video camera on your head with good resolution when you're going to dump it all down the drain?? IMHO if you're going to go a decent route. not necessarily spending a fortune. I'd take my end result into consideration and tailor the rest to fit that goal. matt
  15. I work at a television station in my home town as a photographer/editor... videographer or photojournalist if you want to be nice to me. Free lance can be a pain from what i've heard. it can be decent money, but you have to cover everything yourself. you know... health ins, car, gas, and all the equipment. Yeah the hours can be long and odd compared to most of the people i know and jump with, but it's a steady income with a nice 401k plan, etc... We've got 2 Photographer/Editor positions open here if anyone is interested. They go fast and rarely get advertised.
  16. From what i've seen it's a major reason video quality drops is CHEAP cables and connectors. i don't know how many times i've been to a friends house where they've spent thousands on DVD players, stereo equipment, big TVs and surrounds sound speakers, but refuse to spend a couple bucks on decent cables. As for why IMO VHS quality is low... the tapes degrade with the oxide falling off quickly over time, people don't store the tapes in a cool dry place, and VHS is meant to be a cheap mass production media. Back to work for me. Waiting patiently for the XDcams to be put in service!! Matt
  17. teric - the higher quality the video you start with... the better the VHS dub seems to turn out. I work with Beta SP, Beta SX, DV and DVCAM, let me just say there is a huge difference in quality on VHS when you're making copies. So the more you can start out with the better off you are in the end. Better yet. don't use the standard composite video out from the camcorder. use the S connector. (assuming you're vcr can accept it.) matt
  18. in addition to the Lowe Pro line of bags. Tamrac has a great line too. I've got one that's been to Italy and back, still rain proof, and has stood up to a lot of abuse without showing it. Plus shooting a lot when I was working at my college's student newspaper, etc... matt
  19. I just got my pc350 for $1199 locally. Found it on the web for a bit less, but didn't have the time to wait for shipping. Plus the place i wanted to buy it from was in state so i'd get nailed with tax either way. I've put it through one shoot. Where I needed a small camera b/c of limited space that would make shooting with a full size ENG cam nearly impossible. There's only one part that you were off on that i caught... You CAN charge the batteries onboard either with or without the station. The only thing you need the station for is firewire or USB connectivity. Does the memory stick duo actually have a smaller capacity or are they just more expensive per MB? matt P.S. And don't worry as great as the urge is she won't be flying with me until i get closer to 300 or 400 jumps.
  20. look here --> http://www.dpreview.com/news/0409/04092805sandisk_ultraII.asp
  21. at least in my mind a "pro" body has both horizontal as well as vertical grips and triggers. Most of the ones i've seen have huge battery compartments within those grips that house AA or rechargable batteries or some combination with adapters, etc... So if i had to narrow it down: "Pro-sumer" reincarnations of "pro" bodies are three things -lighter than the pro models in most cases... good for skydiving -tend to lack a few features here and there... not a big deal where light is plentiful and you can't mess with the settings in FF anyway. -they are cheaper... great for everyone. Plus it appeals to those people who aren't willing to shell out Thousands on just a body. The conversion factor thing. Yeah. it stinks to have expensive glass only partially used, but once the bugs are worked out of some of the new lenses built for digital SLRs less glass will equal less weight on your helmet. i don't think i'd be going out on a limb to say that this sensor will make it's way into a pro-sumer body sooner than later. that is if Nikon plans to stay competitive with canon. enough babble from me for now. matt
  22. I just ran across THIS on http://www.dpreview.com I can't wait to see how long it takes to get that sensor in a D70 or D100 type body. Starting to sound like the holy grail at 13mp!! matt
  23. not personally, but did you check out the reviews on: http://www.dpreview.com matt
