  1. way to go man... he's got to be one of the best Christmas presents you'll ever get - even though if you did get him a month early. matt
  2. there are a few products marketed for that specific purpose... i know there is a thread in here if i can just find it with sensor cleaning info and it just so happens that the company that makes the sensor cleaning kits also has the screen cleaning kits too. found it... http://www.photosol.com/ oh... by the way... just do a search for "sensor cleaning" and you'll find a post quade started with all sorts of good info.
  3. thanks for the info... much appreciated.
  4. if you don't mind me asking... where did you find them on e-bay?? i tried looking up "LED" "LED KIT" "led light kit" and only came up with car style light kits. the flashing neon ones are not what i'm looking for.
  5. that's kind of cool... looks like a coral reef with the blue colors.
  6. when you are in the "Forums" here there is a little tab that says "Edit Profile Messages Search Posts Who's Online Rules FAQ" click on "messages" that's where you PMs (aka... private messages) hide.
  7. if you just want the post and bolt i have a source for a limited numbe of them from a big name manufacturer.
  8. i agree that the weight is a lot. and thanks for the info, but i still would like to know what kind of helmet you are using. especially with the fairly long barrel of some of these lenses are you using a Flat Top Pro or something else?? matt
  9. that makes me want to take my brother up on using his Sigma 15 - 30mm aspherical lens when i get to flying a still camera. the weight of it has me wondering what kind of helmet you have on your noggin when you're flying stills. matt
  10. i've read some reviews about a variety of HDV cameras having trouble with fast moving action and artifacting, digital glitches, etc... in some trade magazines. i'm not sure how well the format will hold up to jumping even before you figure in the physical stresses. matt
  11. one of my club's members found this floating around from skyride... http://www.1800skyride.com/...g/Buffalo/index.html another person found one with an "Erie" site too... our real site is... http://www.frontierskydivers.com these people just don't stop do they???

  13. thanks for the input.. that's exactly the type of thing i was waiting to hear. one more thing to add to my "wish list" matt
  14. I understand what you're saying there with the 24p style, but fact of the matter is that over here there isn't a true standard yet for the HD industry. Some companies have productions trucks packed with 1080i cameras & others have 720p with variations of all sorts. So the artifacting i was talking about is directly tied to the compression. a local news station in town shoots in 24p... well at least that mode. and you can see what you are talking about on their air all the time. they have a couple good shooters, but most are sloppy with PAs doing a lot of the editing so all sorts of pans and zooms end up on air that only detract from the quality of their product. matt
  15. sony has a whole line of their DVD burners at: www.sonystyle.com with lots of information. there are a couple with internal hard discs as well. not sure on the finalize or burn times, but it seems that if you plan on copying to the HD then creating a disc that the burner can go faster then realtime. matt
  16. true... true... and true... headroom on your AV drives is your friend.
  17. one of my co-workers who freelances for NHL games noticed that too when he got the chance to shoot a game in HD. your moves have to be more delibrate and slower. partially he said because there is just sooo much for your eyes to take in that it can get overwelhming for the viewer if you're moving too quickly. as well as partially because any compression added later will render any movement more choppie. matt
  18. go to http://www.promax.com to check out their info. then call & ask for Dana. he's a really good guy to ask and very straight forward if you wish to buy anything too. my brother calls him for info even if he's picking up parts from other places... dana will still help. matt
  19. check out your compression rates. my brother uses sorenson squeeze religiously to do the compression. it takes a while, but goes frame by frame to do the math rather than applying too much compression where it may not be needed or desired. i think they make products for macs as well as the pc platform. matt
  20. I'd really like to get Quade in on this conversation to tap his knowledge base...
  21. not really... i've got a D70 already so i've got all the fps i need. I'm mostly excited to see the full frame sensor in hopes that nikon jumps on that sometime soon. the jump from the XT to the 5D's specs only equate to a 16% gain in res from what i've been told. unless someone gives me one i won't buy a $3k camera for jumping. I like nikon. matt
  22. and only 3fps despite a nice sized buffer... for the small price of over $3k. I'll go nikon first.
  23. check out this on ebay --> WiReD IR Remote for Nikon D70 & D50 : ML-L3 Compatible it's similar to what harbortronics does with their grip for the D70 at least for the fibre optic part of things matt
  24. could just be a shorter 4-way team signing up with funny names.
  25. it took a bit to get it in, but the jimmy tavino picked it up from a local camera shop. i believe he has it all sorted out & ready to go. or at least close. matt
