My Chief Photographer had me play with a model similar to that, but meant for ENG style cameras. It hardly used any power compared to the Anton Bauer style 3.2k lights that are common in ENG. The dimmer was great. The biggest downfall i could find was the power cable plug that came coiled wanted to pop out all the time and it didn't fit very well in our camera/gear racks in our vehicles. Color wise it was great to have daylight balanced light without screwing with filters. Having the LEDs put out enough power to use as a small fill during the day was a bonus as well. Matt

I bought lock washers and locking type nuts with the nylon inserts that snug up the bolt/machine screws when they get tightened. Do a search of quick releases on the forum to see some of the different kinds. Matt

go to your local boat supply place or look for a fibre glass/carbon fibre kit online. Matt

make sure you're looking for a D70s. it has the remote port built in or else you'll have to have a D70 modified with a port. Matt

think about the layers like a sandwich one goes on top of the next with the audio channels being the bottom layer of bread, video layers in between and any graphics ('titles' or 'supers') being the top layer of bread. matt

Chuck, You could always just do what Larry, Joe & Carol already do... Use a Mac and iMovie or Final Cut. That way people on the DZ can talk with each other and help out when problems arise. If you want to go PC. Get a sony laptop with vegas on it to edit. just my two cents... Matt

I second DSE's comments. As a deck to save time on your camera's heads it's a great idea. I'd like to have one sitting at home to transfer video into the computer rather than having to set up, hook up, tear down, the camera each time... plus plugging the thing in is nice to save batteries for shooting. The ones i've seen have stood up to some good use/abuse... not like getting run over by a car or anything, but just lasting a good while if cared for nicely. we've got a DV walkman at the station for easy injest into our system for mini-dv video or dubs. if all else fails you could always try epoxy, hot glue, tape or some combination of them. granted you'd better keep an eye on how long the connections work because it probably won't hold as well as a solder joint would. Matt

it looks like the reds are just a bit over saturated. you may be able to adjust it down with a color effect in an editing program. not sure about that particular camera, but most pro-sumer/consumer video cameras tend to push the color a bit past natural. matt

I respectfully understand your statement... I simply like to think of the cameras as a single unit relatively close to each other. So that when I am slightly below and close to my subjects I fly with them at the top of my helmet rather than through the sight... the two cameras I use are matched fairly closely, fairly wide and are sighted in for being two feet down and six feet back. I know i can get roughly 6ft wide in frame when I'm 4 feet away from a subject so doing different groups is just a matter of doing some simple math and remembering where that all falls in my sight. you're right. having them off a bit won't matter, but it's just easier for me to compensate in my head personally when both lenses are next to each other. It's just a personal thing. It seems to work in theory for me. Matt

why are you guys getting upset? I feel like people were mad that I was accidentally starting a Nikon vs. Canon argument... lol. I was not trying to comparing them... but I was trying to say that I don't like to re-align a camera each time I put it back on the helmet. That's one reason I like the way boxes work.... top, side, bottom or upsidedown... of any brand or variety . Plus the paralax issues are easier to deal with when the lenses of multiple cameras are closer to each other... that's why I like top mounts.

nice design, but the thing that still bugs me about it is that you have to take it apart to get the tape out/changed that's still where bonehead/cookie boxes are worth the extra $$. Matt
