  1. the D70s DOES have a simple three wire remote that can be modified to fit a plug/switch from conceptus.
  2. you may find the fact that the D50 doesn't take a CF card a hastle, but then again if you don't have any digital equipment it may not matter. check out www.dpreview.com for all the stats... more specifically http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond50/ hope this helps. matt
  3. thanks for the info. i'm thinking about getting my brother to build an external firewire drive for me. the enclosures are pretty cheap and the prices of drives have come down quite a bit too. he's in the process of putting together a 1TB 4 drive removable enclosure that has 2 chained raid drives and 1 SATA drives for an AVID system because they regularly fill up the nearly 1 TB they already have. needless to say i don't think i need that much space. matt
  4. nice... what HD and laptop are you using?? i've got premiere my notebook & need to get an external drive eventually. thanks. matt
  5. that's a keeper. thanks. gotta love the creativity.
  6. i've seen that for some video edit software that they prefer to have the source & video drives on seperate buses. so having two or more video drives chained together should work, but once you cross over into putting the cam/deck on the same chain the throughput isn't great enough to get the video into the computer as well as back to the drive at the same time. specifically avid likes to have your normal operational drive, a firewire source on one bus and the drive (firewire, internal or otherwise) on another bus. i believe there are communications that run along the firewire cable, beyond the data, as well & i'm not sure that a single bus can talk with multiple devices simultaenously anyway. as an aside my brother is looking into getting a powerbook for freelance work & found out that it'll need to have a seperate pcmcia card to keep the source on a different bus from an external drive. so it's not necessarily just a pc thing, but software related too. matt
  7. i have a version of premiere that can playout via firewire from the timeline as a "preview" you just have to have the appropriate checkbox marked & make sure that everything is rendered. it played out to my camera pretty well. so i can't imagine that it wouldn't to another firewire capable video device.
  8. avid has a time warp feature built into the DV edit software.
  9. out of all the articles i've seen now there isn't any credit or attribution given to the sources.... such as a link to a press release or link to canon's own site with the announcement. the dpreview forums, last i checked, were disputing it mostly. i still don't know that this is real & credible. hopefully it is b/c that means a better nikon will show up sometime sooner. matt
  10. is the .02 a single element lens or does it have multiple pieces of glass that make it up? or was the coating on the glass the problem? because i can't imagine how a single element's quality control would cause condensation problems. (i've never had condensation inside the sealed portion of any of the lenses i've used, but rather in the space between the lens & the filters i put on for protection.) matt
  11. this isn't a royal lens problem because it can and does happen to all sorts of lenses especially on humid days. it's sort of like putting a glass of cold water out in a warm humid room. there will be some moisture attrached to it. at least in the case of skydivers you could make sure to take the lens off the camera each day so that whatever humidity & temp levels are closer to equal on inside & out. then again it will change with altitude and weather upstairs. some people put the wide angle back on once they get their in plane shots. for some it works others it doesn't. however i've seen a product called "cat crap" work for fog or condensation on ski goggles & glasses. some people at my dz ordered some, but i haven't heard how it worked yet. matt

    free gear

make sure to get the lifespan in there so they don't think it's just a one shot billboard deal, but rather somthing that will last for years to come.
  13. i believe it's the same, however I'd suggest checking out a few other places first to check prices/reputation before buying that from e-bay. i'll send you a PM matt

ok... i thought i spent too much time away from the DZ. matt
  15. thanks. i'll have to look into the 2000 series then. matt
  16. don't forget the fax machine & the baseball bat.
  17. the woman that runs that store is really nice & helpful. I'm sure if you give her a call ahead of time with your info she could have what you want in stock when you get there or at least on the way.
  18. well. just shot the sales person an e-mail. we'll see what happens.
  19. one of the camera flyers at my DZ recently picked up a Nikon Coolpix 5700 & needs a digisnap for it so she can use a tongue switch or other conceptus type switch. Unfortunately it Harbortronic's website says they aren't making the model that goes with that camera any more... so does anyone have any idea of where i can find a Digi Snap 5000 for her??? I've even looked on e-bay with no luck. matt
  20. i was taking your use of genre to mean that he was going from light hearted stuff to darker stuff. as far as the jobs go they are pretty close to each other. in most cases photographers are their own field director so you get a good dose of what it takes to make something bigger. matt
  21. how could i forget... yep. PM me your e-mail & i'll send it to you. matt
  22. i haven't heard the name, but how do you mean crossing into different genres. the photographer to director transition isn't all that uncommon. after all it is somewhat logical of a progression & being creative will help you get into any project you're working on... not just one genre you start in.
