When and Where was your FIRST jump?

Recommended Posts

August, 21,1985. temploux belgium, back then a military /civilian para club. Did the whole static line progression through freefall. AFF was out
but not in that neck of the world, tandems were unheard of to us then.
stopped because I hated jumping rounds and they wouldn't let me on a square for several hundred jumps. Still have my licence # 255 .
Started up again and damn it was too long being away.

May 2000 was my first tandem at Emerald Coast Skydiving in Elberta, AL. (Wich has become my home DZ that I love!) I didn't jump again until Jan. 2001 after that I've been jumping at least every thirty days to stay current! Can't wait until I'm rich like you guys and can jump every weekend!;)

First jump: July 1973, Fort Benning GA

First sport jump: September 1976 Turner Dropzone, Ft Devens, MA out of a UH-1H with the Trojan Sport Parachute Club. Motto: We got you covered. FJC cost: $15 and a case of beer upon completion of the first jump. And they were serious about the beer. Most of them were in the 10th SF Group.:o

My first jump was a staticline over Texel (the Netherlands), in june 1991.
I made six jumps then, then didn't jump for nearly 10 years (what was I thinking????), and started my AFF in February 2001.

I finally got my A license in September (?) 2001, so you could say it took me more than ten years to get my A! ;)

It was Sept. 16, 1972.
I was in college, and they had a skydiving club there.
I had never been in an airplane before, ( I just loved the ride, the view was spectacular!). The location was , Ledgedale Airport in Brockport (western) New York. static line. First jump course and gear and lift,,,,,,,50 bucks.. next 4 static lines...10 bucks each...First freefall.6 bucks.....all jumps included gear, and instruction.. so 96 dollars, got me 6 jumps, a log book, and into freefall... jumps thereafter were 3 dollars to 3 grand and 5 dollars to
Seven-Five. about 5 years after my first jump,,, I composed a poem which summed up my feelings for this unique sport/recreational activity which we all enjoy so much.....I will share that poem, with you all now.

JUST ONE.

There was a voice inside me,
I'd hear it now and then.
When days were warm or skies were blue,
or I was with a friend.......

It started soft with gentle urges
but grew and grew in leaps and surges,
'til from my mouth as if a SHOUT,
One day I said, or blurted out,

"For sure, Why not? It might be fun!
A parachute jump! From a plane! Just one!

I'd heard about it once or twice
and always thought it would be nice
to float around, and look way down
check out the ground, not make a sound........

Well the chance arose one free fall day
and some friends and I, we made our way
through what it was, one had to do,
to safely make a jump or two.

I can tell you now, it was preety hairy
the time was near, my mind unclear,
and things were looking scarey.

"What are you doing, is it safe, are you sure??"
said that little voice inside me.
But i reassured myself and said, "I have my head to guide me".

"For just this once I'll do this thing
and leave a plane in flight.
And make some friends and have some laughs
and it'll be over by tonight."

So up I went, and out the door
and to my surprise came back for more.

Well it's been a while since that autumn day
and many jumps have gone their way.
The early days of aprehension are gone my friend,
there is no tension.

Now jumping's MORE than lots of fun.
and think it started with ,,,,, just one.....

July 26, 1998. Carolina Sky Sports

My husband had been jumping for 6 months and at that point I really didn't think I was interested but we went down there for a boogie one weekend and I decided to do a tandem. I tell him that I was doing it. He didn't know until I walked out of the hanger in a harness. Well, needless to say I was hooked. I went to Airanch Skydivers in Fayetteville the very next day and did levels 1 & 2 AFF. Then in December of that year we moved to Seattle and jumping pretty much stopped for 6 months due to the rain. When the sun did come out, jumped for 3 months then the rain came again. The following May I broke my femur and haven't jumped since except a few tandems. My husband still jumps every weekend when the weather is nice and we spend a lot of time in Perris when it isn't. Even though I don't actually jump anymore, I am still very active in the sport in other ways and skydiving is still a huge part of my life and my passion.

That's probably more information than you wanted but there it is.

Date: 1999 October 16.
DZ: Godollo, Hungary
Club: Microburst Sky Voyagers
Altitiude: 800 meters
Airplane: Antonov An-2
Parachute: RS 4/4 with BE-8 reserve (East-German military round)
Opening type: Static-line

This is how I started as that time I was at the University I had little funding availabe so now after three years I have only 24 jumps. Also I had to change to a different skydiving club as my old club
after a while only existed for championships -you got to be a club member to be able to compete-.

But this year is promising I made 10 jumps -WOW-
and I palne to reach 50-60 in 2002 to be a so-called
basic-instructor (batboy or orderly to the instructor) or what -no rights you stay a "student" untill 200 jumps, but the title sounds good -especially to girls-.

So this is my story.

Skydive Las Vagas in Jean, NV. November 15, 2001. The day after my wedding. I can't say enough good things about those people. If everything goes according to plan, I will be back there this year with my class "A" licence to do a FF jump.
