  1. Megyn Kelly, crazy or not, is doable. cavete terrae.
  2. So if a judge dies you get a new sentence? I liked the old one. This is just effing parlor games. He has admitted to the murder - time to fry. He killed one of our OWN, people. One of my best friends. I was there when he came up with the flowers - dressed in a tie and jacket offering his condolences . . . http://www.floridasupremecourt.org/decisions/2015/sc13-2048.pdf Frankly it doesn't sound unreasonable. Why are you so hellbent on having this guy killed, anyway? It doesn't bring Shrek back. It doesn't stop others from doing what this guy did. It doesn't even free up resources. It's just an enormous waste of time and money. Lock him up for the rest of his life, and we can all move forward. cavete terrae.
  3. Well, I _KINDA_ see where he's coming from even if I disagree with how he's putting it. Statistically speaking, as a person in the US I have a much much much much much higher chance (however vanishingly small it might be) of being killed by a cop (Roughly 0.0000034% in 2014) than I do by a member of ISIS (0%, ever). However, he's not really doing those of us who are trying to reform modern policing tactics any favors. cavete terrae.
  4. It's beyond cold hearted. I'm extremely cold hearted, in a lot of respects, and even I'm not down with sacrificing innocents for a broken system to continue cavete terrae.
  5. The big (and I mean huge) problem with that is that the cops have the training to react to a specific threat of an active shooter. But "active shooter" situations are very rare. And the cops don't seem to reserve that sort of militaristic attitude for those rare situations. They almost seem to be looking for reasons to use it in other situations. They ARE looking for reasons to use it. If you don't use what you have, you can't get more of it. "Hey we used SWAT 814 times in Q1" = more budget for SWAT. "Hey we didn't have any SWAT deployments in Q1" = budget reallocated. cavete terrae.
  6. Just as not all cops are the ones abusing power and killing people at the drop of a hat, not all of the citizenry are armed to the teeth and looking to kill cops. I know it's easier to step all over the rights of someone if you dehumanize them and pretend they're all out to kill you, but… they aren't. Hell, if cops would stop crashing their cars and motorcycles they'd have fewer dead officers than if they stopped getting shot. Ah yes, grenade launchers to save the children. When something is pitched as beingdone "for the children" or is named after someone ("So-and-so's Law"), it's frequently being done that way to play on emotions. Why? Because if you try to appeal to the logical side of people they're rightly say "Wait what? No, that's stupid. Don't do that." cavete terrae.
  7. I really, really realllllllllllllllllly hate the practice of preferential hiring of combat vets as police officers, though. cavete terrae.
  8. Probably just media reporting patterns, like the summer with all the shark attack reports a while back. Turned out to be below average, just heavier coverage. cavete terrae.
  9. Is there a general consensus (in this sport? Not likely, I'm sure) on the effects of various packing techniques as they pertain to the stages of canopy deployment? I ask because I've found that the way I pack my main (a Fusion) results in low initial tug to stand me up, and then a firm, consistent deceleration (total deployment is about 700') I recently used a packer for the first time in many years for my last half-dozen jumps, and noticed that his pack jobs have substantially higher initial tug, and then the rest of the opening is quite a bit slower, taking 1000' or more. I meant to watch him do a packjob on Saturday but had to take off a bit early, so I figured I'd ask you guys. My completely in the dark theory is that he's rolling the tail less than I do, but rolling the nose more (I don't roll it at all), but since I don't typically watch my openings I can't say for sure. Plausible? cavete terrae.
  10. The Australians are. It's a stupid, terrible idea. cavete terrae.
  11. It's a very, very clear violation of the first Amendment. cavete terrae.
  12. As it should be everywhere. It's 2015 kids. You can get ID and frankly I don't know how in 2015 you live life without one. More drivel from the Reich Wing Conservatards. There are a lot of old people, and a lot of poor people, who don't have Ids that meet the absurdly high standards put in place by the scumbags that hate democracy. The voter ID laws have been put in place for one reason only. That is to prevent old people, and poor people who don't have IDs, from voting. That is all that those heinous laws accomplish. There has NOT EVER been an election where actual VOTING FRAUD was an issue. NONE. Why do conservatives HATE the USA and democracy so much? They know they can't win elections fairly, so they corrupt the rules to force an unfair advantage. The scumbags that support them are ignorant idiots. Out of curiosity, how do you feel about compulsory voting for all citizens? cavete terrae.
  13. Lol. Oh yes, Columbine, where they didn't even bother making entry until everyone was dead. Yes, excellent use of SWAT resources. The Special Weapons and Tactics involve not using either the weapons, or hte tactics apparently. However, fuck yes Billy Redneck has 2 marijuana plants according to Nick The Snitch who may or may not have a very vested interest in us taking action based on his information. Whoops, turns out Billy Redneck's alleged house actually has a whole family in in, and no pot plants. Sucks that the guy who actually lives there tried to defend himself against the violent home invaders who kicked in his door at 3am with no warning. Sucks even more than the violent home invaders killed him. Oh wait, the violent home invaders are the police? Everything's cool. cavete terrae.
  14. Finally, something like the G3 without all the crap that I hate so much about the G3. cavete terrae.
  15. https://recordsetter.com/jump-rope-world-records Seems plausible! cavete terrae.
  16. http://news.yahoo.com/prosecutor-texas-execution-case-accused-misconduct-220449471.html Charge this piece of shit with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and anything else that might stick. No death penalty, though. Life in prison. …and people wonder why I'm against capital punishment. Jesus. cavete terrae.
  17. how dare you, being male and all, having an opinion on this.... (seriously, that position is equivalent to being ok with abortion right up to and including during the first parts of labor - it's pretty extreme. Even though I've advocated for the option to abort up to and including the 309th month following conception) Is a baby two months away from being born generally considered viable? I honestly don't know. If so I'd consider revising my view. cavete terrae.
  18. Not murder in my opinion. Still attached to and contained within the host at the time of the attack, not yet a separate creature. cavete terrae.
  19. Let them eat ramen, we dont have to listen to their protests about higher tuition.... To be fair, part of the problem is that everyone's trying to go to college, and of course they want to go to certain ones. This comes from the ridiculous belief that you must have a degree to succeed (perpetuated no doubt in part by those who benefit from other people going to college). Thus, the cycle continues of tens, nay hundreds of thousands of young adults putting themselves tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt for a degree they're unlikely to benefit from more than they would have from a cheap local college if they insist on going in the first place. Granted, there's probably a lot of career delusion in play as well. "i'm going to change the world and I need to be prepared!" Fast forward 6 years and that person is $70k in debt with a useless sociology degree and working at Barnes and Noble. cavete terrae.
  20. Same conceptual items, perhaps, but entirely different execution and price range. If McDonalds is a Kia, In'n'Out is a VW, and that leaves room for Audi, or BMW, or even Maybach. Is one unconditionally "better" in every respect? Of course not. But the market allows for all of them to exist. Me personally, I prefer Five Guys for the most part, but In'n'Out is a nice option when I'm feeling cheap. Granted, I was in Australia for long enough so everything in the US seems cheap. cavete terrae.
  21. Sounds like class envy. Why do you hate people just because they got an education that leads to a well paying career? To be fair, education doesn't necessarily factor into it. I'm a tech startup asswipe and I view my university education as a waste of time and money. I left Microsoft to get my degree, and regret doing so but am now making up for lost time. cavete terrae.
  22. http://judiciary.house.gov/index.cfm/2015/3/at-the-flick-of-a-switch/ What in the actual fuck? This is going to give me cancer. cavete terrae.
  23. Hang the fuck on. The rest of your post I more or less agree with, but this one I have to say "no, we don't NEED them, but I really, really really really really want them and life will be way better with them" Yup. Why have to pay attention and stay awake when you can enjoy your trip resting/sleeping or entertaining yourself? Yes, it can be fun to drive....and frequently NOT so! Even more than that, imagine the health benefits. No more road rage. Well, at least not until AI gains self awareness... cavete terrae.
