  1. Hopefully that twatwaffle from citizens from the left of the bell curve has her trailer blown away. cavete terrae.
  2. Car. No interest in going to Indonesia, I've already got a hot girlfriend, but I only have a motorcycle for transport and being able to get to work and still be dry in the rain would be nice. cavete terrae.

    Defund DHS

I'd shed no tears over the death of the DHS. I don't really care about the immigration side of things, though. Parts of DHS are necessary, maybe with a fresh start we could do it right. cavete terrae.
  4. That's what can be done about future issues. It doesn't in any way solve the existing Gitmo issue. Send them home with an apology and compensation. cavete terrae.
  5. If you're buying in bulk you can get tunnel time for around $600/hr if you plan ahead. Five hours of that, plus 500-ish skydives and pack jobs if you buy tickets in bulk and work out a deal with a packer or two. cavete terrae.
  6. No. There really isn't. The issue is what do you do with the prisoners? Where do you put them if you can't have Gitmo? This issue has surfaced time and again in Congress and Congress has flatly refused to allow them to be held in the US proper, so what do you do with them? Google it. I'll wait. …stop invading other countries, rounding up people and holding them without being charged or given a trial, and stop creating more "terrorists" in the process? I mean CLEARLY we can't do something like that. cavete terrae.
  7. Well, to be fair, not even Bush was having his cronies hunt down and kill American citizens without a trial. Bush does have his signature on PATRIOT and the MCA though. cavete terrae.
  8. From watching The Rocketeer I've been led to believe that chewing gum is a perfectly fine patch. cavete terrae.
  9. Completely disagree with that. Cancer is not an infectious disease. Tell that to Cheryl Crow cavete terrae.
  10. Unfortunately. I mean, not from personal experience, but yeah that's right up there with rosary beads and tallit as "physical manifestations of gullibility" cavete terrae.
  11. The only difference between cults and religions is the tax break that the latter get. Mmmm, I question your definition. There is at least a couple organizations I consider to be cults which receive tax breaks. Cult has a very different definition in my book. Go on… The tax break thing was mostly a joke, but in my eye the only significant difference between the two really is "broad social acceptance", which does happen to frequently come with a tax break or tax exempt status. cavete terrae.
  12. The only difference between cults and religions is the tax break that the latter get. cavete terrae.
  13. I'm half-expecting a real hardcore turn against atheists any time now. cavete terrae.
  14. To be fair, it's Detroit. Anything there is an improvement at this point. cavete terrae.
  15. This is the exact thing my wife (who was raised catholic) brought up when we discussed this. I had always thought the no birth control rule for Catholics were for religious, bible, Jesus, reasons only. I now can totally visualize it as propaganda to have as many catholic babies as possible to dominate all other religions. and if you're as cynical as I am, you'll see tax benefits for parents as an incentive to create more future taxpayers. cavete terrae.
  16. Sometimes neighborhood watch groups work well, but other times they go overboard (and unlawful) like this and should be reined back in. As I recall sometimes the Guardian Angels deserved (or at least received) similar criticism. At least LEO agencies do psych screening to weed-out the wack jobs. Yeah, right. Where's my sarcasm emoticon? It's too early for that. Choked on my water cavete terrae.
  17. Some interesting things to consider: Birth rates are strongly inversely correlated with education. Religion is inversely correlated with education. Most major religions have some practices or rules with the thinly-veiled intent to get their followers to create more followers. The persons most likely to follow these rules are the more devout followers, and it naturally follows on that their spawn will be raised in an environment espousing those views, thereby propagating them further. The whole thing basically piles together to make it pretty clear that it doesn't need to be an active effort, as the spread of any significant religion from the above form is literally success through ignorance. Me? I'm not going to fight back with the same method, because I really don't like children and sure as hell don't want any of my own. I will, however, continue to hope that religion can die a natural death as people become more educated. cavete terrae.
  18. Typically I agree, however, as a general rule it seems that if the telcos are opposed to something, it's probably a good idea. Their bribery teams, I mean lobby, are very powerful and have put them in a very, very strong position that makes any actual competition very difficult because of existing bad government intervention. If we can undo that, it will benefit everyone except for perhaps stockholders in Comcast, Time Warner, AT&T and Verizon. I'm also hoping that the FCC can help in getting shut down the laws forbidding municipal broadband rollouts in some states. cavete terrae.
  19. None, but mohels sucking baby dicks with open wounds are giving herpes to children during their circumcision ritual and nobody is doing anything about it because of the sanctity of the dumb ass religion*. * I think all religions are stupid and awful, I'm not specifically targeting the jews here. I was raised in a jewish family, though, so I've got a bit more experience-driven venom to deploy. cavete terrae.
  20. Yeah I was like "oh christ no" when I saw him appointed, and have been genuinely impressed with how he's been handling things thus far. cavete terrae.
  21. You guys make my three years overseas look like a blink! Okay, it really was, but still! (and welcome back, Mark!) T Eh, well, to be fair I never intended to stay as long as I did, I just got stuck because I didn't have the money to move home cavete terrae.
  22. You mean, like Sen. Ted Cruz (R), Sen. Roy Blunt (R), Gov. Bobby Jindal (R), Donald Trump (R) and Gov. Scott Brown (R) all trying to blame Obama for the ebola outbreak? Yep, pretty ignorant. I'm not sure what the point of this comment was… if it's because you think I'm a republican and will jump to their defense, that's not the case. I think casting aspersions around that one party is solely responsible for just about anything is fairly preposterous, and yes the whole Ebola thing was six miles past stupid and did a WONDERFUL job of distracting people from the midterm elections, where we continued a long running national tradition of rewarding poor behavior by giving more opportunities to do stupid, horrible things. Frankly, I don't even see much of a real-world difference between the two parties, other than a few emotional points that each party's most staunch defenders turn into a big deal that shouldn't even need to involve the federal government. cavete terrae.
  23. I took a lot of flak for it but I've said and stand by my statement that Jenny McCarthy's relevance to and knowledge of subjects is inversely proportional to the amount of clothing associated with them. cavete terrae.
  24. It's pretty ignorant to blame a political party or affiliation for this. Of course, ignorance is the cause of antivax BS in the first place. cavete terrae.
