I did a similar progression - about 20 or 25 jumps on a GTi before getting one on my S3... Yes, you can be safe with just a few jumps, but I think I could have gotten a lot more performance out of my S3 if I had jumped another 20 or so jumps on the GTi. Almost a "canopy progression" thing - if you can wring out your current suit, it'll put you that much further ahead on the new one. Have you tried flying inverted yet on the GTi? If not, why not? Try this still sequence from Brent's site... And here is a method of getting it in the bag using a reverse S fold...I use it all the time on my Samurai; works great once you learn where the folds need to be made

I've jumped a two piece suit in the winter months and just the pants & a shirt in the summer...just takes a couple jumps to get the slight difference in fall rate dialed in. Two is especially nice if you pack for yourself in the warmer temps. The only bad thing I've found is that a two piece doesn't fly as well in the tunnel (and the zippers will tend to creep) - but I'm not in there that often anyway. I now use a Neptune to confirm what my eyes are telling me... I attended the PD Swoop Camp at Z-hills and Brian happened to be there as well. The guy landing before me pounded the ground and I was only slightly higher than he was when I started my hook; I visually realized that the sight picture was low and dug out. If I was at a new DZ, I probably wouldn't have realized it quick enough. Brian had some good words of advise (who can argue with the guy that built the canopy you fly ). At that point, I was only using visuals - no alti's. He asked what alt I initiated the turn before the hook - I had no idea. You should know that you need to be at X alt on your approach at the point Y on the ground to safely think about starting the hook - if not, abort and live to try again the next jump. Good advise.
