Aviation Safety Resources (ASR) has reached an agreement to acquire parachute company Strong Enterprises, ASR announced at the Sun ‘n Fun Aerospace Expo on Tuesday. Strong, which designs, engineers, tests and manufactures parachute systems, has customers in the general aviation and military segments. Actually lightning is the cheapest source of electricity. Now if we can figure out how to capture it and use it. Shorting out all the wiring in your house and blowing up your TV isn't very cost effective.

The PIA web site lists the dates for the symposium as August 30 - September 3, 2021, 5 months from now. All the links say stay tuned or information will be posted at a later date. Has anyone heard if those dates are still firm. I would think moving it to February 2022 then holding it every even year may be a better idea since the current dates are busy skydiving months.

AD 2020-18-01 On Cessna 182's, the AD is for 182E, 1962 and newer. The 1956 - 1961 struts attach directly to the airframe bulkhead. It is a pain to remove the lower bolt because you have to work through 2 inspection holes in the floor, usually cutting your wrists on the sharp edges. The "E" model and later have a fitting fastened to the bulkhead that sticks out past the outer skin. It is much easier to remove the lower strut bolt because you are not working through the inspection holes. Most jump planes have the interior removed making it a little easier to do the inspection.

I had a Canadian doctor for a flight physical tell me 20 years ago the USA was too big to manage and should be split up into 4 countries. Split at the Mississippi then each half split into north and south segments. Made sense to me.

" Van installed a turbine on a C-206 not a C-182. Ask him how long it took and how much it cost. Electric jump planes are only 10 years away, and always will be.

A $10 part for a car costs $100 for a boat and $1000 for a plane. Converting a plane to electric will be expensive and getting it certified will be really expensive. With a car, the research and development is spread across several million units, with a plane, a few thousand maybe. A Jet-A powered Cessna 182 had a base price of $515,000 in 2012. Now lets talk about a new design, what do you think a new 4 skydiver electric jump plane would cost to build and certify in 2020. You can buy a 575 HP Corvette engine for $9000. A used, overhauled Continental O-470-L engine costs $28,000. It it is for an airplane, it is expensive.

It is tough to unseat an incumbent but it has happened. The last 2 Presidential candidates that had a women as a running mate lost. Trump is behind in the polls but he was behind in 2016. Trump has a lot of supporters but has lost some since 2016. I wouldn't want to take bets on the outcome of the election. If Biden wins the election, who knows what kind of stunt Trump will pull as a lame duck President.

I was wondering what happened to the virus that caused the Spanish flu in 1918 and found an interesting article. In the article, they dug up two bodies at different times in Alaska that had been buried and frozen in permafrost and took samples of lung tissue. The Presidential debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden is coming in a few days, Tuesday. I think Trump will pretty much be a replay of the debate with Hillary. I am afraid that Biden will embarrass himself. The worse part is, he may not realize it.

Betty should be nominated for the Skydiving Museum Hall of Fame for all she has done for the sport.

Sometimes you have to pick someone other than the two evils.

Maybe good was the wrong choice of words. I am not too thrilled with the current candidates nor the ones in 2016. Maybe in 2024 there is someone I feel I can actually vote for.

Just a little over 50 months until the 2024 election. Let's hope there are a couple of good candidates to vote for.
