  1. Then I guess you conveniently ignored McCain's, "ugly as Janet Reno" remark. As for all the time, I guess occassionally is OK in your book. Nice to see you defending the Repub Party agian, you non-republican. Wasn't aware of that remark. Care to post it in it's entirety? Is that the only one you have? You did say the Repubs did it "all the time". The "all the time" is a perception that results from echoes, which are caused by the emptiness of their arguments. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  2. So, a sitting President directs his Chief-of-Staff to ask a former President, whose wife is the Secretary of State, to talk to a former Admiral who is a Congressman about an "advisory" board position if he stays in the House versus run for the Senate? No, no, no, no, no...you don't use a hot-knife-through-butter team like that for some meaningless non-paying board job. This is turning out to be bigger than I thought. Offering something of value as a political favor per se, is black-letter in violation of the statute. The problem is that AG Holder won't assign an independent prosecutor for this. He doesn't have the political moxy. No one on the democrat side of the aisle is saying anything...they're really going to sweep this under the rug? Really? Really?! This amounts to electoral manipulation at a minimum...denying (or attempting to deny) voters a "qualified" individual in a valid primary election. The advisory position was unpaid, so "something of value" just went right out the window. Also, they withdrew the offer when they realized that he couldn't serve in the advisory position and remain a member of Congress, due to conflict of interest. This is quite possibly one of the most meaningless "scandals" yet. You right wingers are getting desperate. Also, not that this really does anything to make it "right" (especially since it's not wrong in the first place), but Bush AND Reagan did it first, so the outrage looks more than a little hypocritical and phony. Of course, there was no value in the position or conversation. Let me direct my chief of staff and use a former president as a gopher-boy to convey the message. You don't use big guns like that for nothing. No pay does not remove value. Sitting in an advisory position in itself has value. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!

  4. First of all, it was the Atlanta Journal Constitution that carried it first... You're not denying that FoxNews didn't fact check it though are you? Actually, I am. It is linked through foxnation, which is their "forums" of sorts. And I was actually wrong in stating the AJC carried it first, it was on their blog too...so while I don't deny Barr wrote it, and has a column with AJC...the fact that some clown blogged it on foxnation isn't much of a surprise to me. Recently completed: "The Tipping Point" by Gladwell On deck: "Courage and Consequence" by Karl Rove; "Because They Hate: A Survivor of Islamic Terror Warns America" by Brigitte Gabriel; and a few others that are in the "stack"...one about Freddy Mercury, and I'm thinking of re-reading an old Clancy novel just to feed some candy to the brain... 9. DPRK has a large Army. Up to 1M strong. It's effectiveness is largely seen as limited though due to factors that there isn't enough infrastructure to keep it going beyond a couple few days (in an all-out offensive). More troublesome than that though, is that there are literally thousands of artillery rockets and long range shells aimed at Seoul, which could wreak havoc for sure. The south has the ability to blow out all the DMZ mountain passes and tunnels, so a land confrontation would face some significant obstacles, ones that many think DPRK's army could not overcome. Thanks for the reply. So in essence, for South Korea, the key would be to just hold out those first few days, really. Obviously, not trying to trivialize any sort of conflict that leads to destruction - but I wanted to know if it was going to be something like you mentioned, or a real possibility that South Korea could fall. The ROK Army is pretty impressive. Between them, and the US 2nd ID, DPRK wouldn't get far. I'm speaking strictly in the conventional sense, I don't know how "deliverable" their nukes are. 12. On the whole, I consider money spent caring for sick and aged Americans and looking after public health in the USA to be a far better use of taxpayer money than killing brown people, who have done nothing to us, half a world away in a futile search for mythical WMDs. Ah, but that wasn't in your "list". If you take out defense (which you did not reference) and the interest payments routed through Treasury, the rest of the government does not cost as much as HHS alone. The war in Iraq was not funded through the annual budget, it was paid via discretionary spending, so again your argument falls flat, and guess what, it's still not as expensive as the health care bill. There's more, those entitlements are not all "public health" either. Meanwhile, I do not consider Al Qaeda in Iraq, insurgents in Iraq, or AQ in Afghanistan by their race, it's a pity you do. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  13. i disagree. you as an individual cant borrow and spend your way to wealth and prosperity and neither can the country as a whole. my 2 cents Of course you can. You go to the bank with a business plan to make a better computer. Bank lends you money. You start making computers in your garage. People buy them. You make better computers. People buy them. You introduce a better portable music device. People buy them You introduce a better phone. People buy them. You are Steve Jobs, a billionaire. Much the same story with Motorola, Microsoft, HP, Google and countless others where the company was started with borrowed money and a good idea. It's called investing for the future. Of course, we could also borrow money and piss it away on a war fought under false pretenses. Or just piss it away on everything else the Govt. does which far exceeds the money spent on the war but keep playing that same string..... Steve Jobs and the US Govt. are totally different. That company knows how to manage money. Well, let's think about "everything else the govt. does": I take it that you consider social security payments to people who have worked hard all their lives and paid their taxes to be pissing money away. I take it you consider the building of and maintenance of the interstate highway system to be a waste of money. I take it you consider National Parks a waste of money. I take it you consider air traffic control a waste of money. I take it you consider the US Coast Guard a waste of money. I take it you consider the FBI a waste of money. I take it you consider the CIA a waste of money. I take it you consider the Federal Court System a waste of money. ... Next to entitlements, all of those are a drop in the bucket. Dept of Interior, State, Justice, NSF, DHS, VA, Agriculture...don't even add up to half of HHS alone, or even a quarter of HHS and SS together. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  14. It's certainly shady, but I'd be surprised if anything came out of this. The insiders have such a strong majority that Sen. Durbin is simply putting on a show. 19. The US has a $4Tr budget. Defense, VA, DHS (the latter two are NOT defense) do not add up anywhere near 2/3rds of the budget. If the healthcare bill gets fully implemented, the rest of the agencies won't add up to half compared to what HHS will be managing. So again (2010 numbers), DoD $660B (approx), HHS $800B, SSA roughly $800B, Labor is up big for 2010, $200B...I've not even got to the Omnibus or Stimulus bills yet... 20. Aside from having loose fuel tanks back there, I'd advise against it. Make the investment for a fuel transfer tank. You can probably find a slim 36 gallon tank at TSC for under $300.00 and a solid electric fuel pump for about the same. The tank is sealed, no siphons to worry about. If that's more than what you're looking to spend, then look into something like this: http://reviews.northerntool.com/0394/33631/reviews.htm So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  21. Of course...the government can't prosecute itself...AIG is a government agency now...another three-letter department in the big machine... There isn't going to be much in the way of any prosecutions of any of the big players in the financial sector. Damn man. I had not thought about it that way. Shit........... In the end what choice is there? There was mutual masturbation of the system in order for everyone to own a home. The legislators pushed, the regulators ignored it (while watching porn), and the financial sector had to invent ways to finance all this debt (which was really bad debt...NINJA-style-debt). Everybody got shit on in this mess and the more that government tries to "help"... So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!

  23. Good grief.... Bill, do you parade around the world on private jets telling everyone the world is on the verge of disaster and that everyone needs to change their ways RIGHT NOW, while you continue to fly around on private jets, have more than one home and consuming 20-100 times the energy of the average American? No? Or, do you, believing in being a good steward of this planets resources, and making a good living (thus having the ability to invest heavily), are able to invest in resources that have now enabled your home to put power back into the grid, utilize a gray-water system, et al? Do you trumpet this at the mountain tops, or simply live your life the best way you feel you should? Do you see the difference? Do you believe that there are others that take similar action, but don't share the view of Al Gore, they just believe in being good stewards? Some things are unavoidable. The internal combustion engine is going to be around for a long long long time. Use of fossil fuels is going to continue. Despite your huge efforts, even you cannot stop consuming them. 24. He followed his own advice in Nashville. His house in Nashville is LEED rated. Is your house LEED rated? It's not clear to me what additional things he could do with it. You really don't have anything admissable, do you? Just speculation and grudge. Good God, get off it. It just got rated LAST YEAR!! This man has been on a "man-bear-pig" rampage for a decade.
