  1. As it should be. Additional criteria have to be met as well.
  2. Emphasis mine. Awesome. Anyone standing outside a Home Depot can therefore be considered a male prostitute and hassled at will. I understand what you're talking about, but do not understand...in the context of the rest of the sentence which you ignored. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  3. http://www.businessweek.com/ap/financialnews/D9FNMNMO2.htm It's okay. Chavez has been saving that country!! Oil production is down, therefore exports are down. Power generation is down, so the rolling black-outs are only a few hours per day. Overall consumption is down because the major supermarkets are nationalized and they aren't fully stocked. Even if they were though, it wouldn't matter because price controls have sent inflation up 30%... So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  4. certainly we would not want to base anything on facts...... Bottom line. More Mexicans are in jail because more Mexicans are in the country. Less 'white Canadians' are in jail because less 'white Canadians' are in the country. Proportionately, the numbers probably work out pretty damn close I expect. The CONSTITUTION of this country (so staunchly supported by so many right-wingers) does not allow us to discriminate in the ways of this Arizona law, simply by the way people look. And that will mostly likely be challenged in court and struck down (eventually) If you want all the illegals out of this country, then you better start getting ready to pay 5.99/lb for fruit and vegetables, because the 'white guys' aren't going to pick that stuff for less than a $15-20/hour union job You are right You are not basing anything on facts http://www.azleg.gov/legtext/49leg/2r/bills/sb1070s.pdf So read it and show us all where this law allows profiling???? Go ahead, read it. It is only 16 pages. You can do better than out great AG Now we're in the meat and potatoes! Here's a link to the signed text of the law, from the same legislative site, but I couldn't find a download for it. I do know that it's different than the "Senate Engrossed" version you noted. It has the following references: Section 1, B: A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL OR AGENCY OF THIS STATE OR A COUNTY, CITY, TOWN OR OTHER POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THIS STATE MAY NOT SOLELY CONSIDER RACE, COLOR OR NATIONAL ORIGIN IN IMPLEMENTING THE REQUIREMENTS OF THIS SUBSECTION EXCEPT TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY THE UNITED STATES OR ARIZONA CONSTITUTION. Section 7, B: The attorney general or county attorney shall not investigate complaints that are based solely on race, color or national origin. Section 8, B: The attorney general or county attorney shall not investigate complaints that are based solely on race, color or national origin. Text found here: http://www.azleg.gov/FormatDocument.asp?inDoc=/legtext/49leg/2R/laws/0113.htm Governor Brewer's Executive Order 2010-09 adds more iron to the glove as it pertains to possible profiling. I tried to attach the scan, and break it into two separate pages, but the files were still too big. Here's a link from the LA Time: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2010/05/full-text-arizona-illegal-immigration-law-jan-brewer.html The relevant point is on page two of the EO: So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  5. I don't want this to go to Speakers Corner, but I would just make sure you've got the union rules well in-hand, and that everyone adheres to the safety plan/accident prevention plan. Also, make sure whomever if your Quality Control Manager is top notch. It's not about the union, it's about the guys working on site with you. If a guy doesn't pass muster, I'm pretty sure the union rules allow you to replace him/her on the spot. It's about getting the work done safely and within spec for the project owner, not about self-improvement. If you're going to be the lead, then it's about leading and directing the workflow. If the laborers and operators are professional and hardcore, then they'll do their job, and if they don't... With all the excess labor in California (especially construction, what's the unemployment rate for construction? 30%?), any guy that doesn't fully understand everything is going to be more trouble than he's worth, and there's no shortage of talent to draw from the union pool (or list, or however they manage it). What kind of project is it? How big? Period of performance? So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!

  7. Don't worry folks! AG Holder is on the scene. He's considering a law suit, is on the record questioning the Constitutionality of the Arizona law... ...there's just one small detail... ...he hasn't read the law... ... ...video So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  8. I'm pretty sure that guns are illegal in England aren't they? This video must be altered some how... ...and yes. Chairs are dangerous and must be stopped... 9. Hey, Gawain. I must have crossed path with you in FOB Loyalty, Iraq it 2006. We were the Navy guys that wouldn't wear Army regulation socks to the chow hall Of all the things to be concerned about in a war zone. My battalion was pulled away from the rest of the division in 2005-2006, we were in Ramadi with the Marines and staged out of Camp Corregidor. I personally was never at FOB Loyalty, but that's not to say none of the guys found themselves there. The SeaBees were our engineering support in Ramadi. Marines were air support and Air Force was directly supporting the task force hunting for Zarqawi at the time. By the way, we weren't worried about socks at Corregidor...way too busy... So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  10. Reconcile this too Paul, if you're truly interested in such reconciliation: Budd Schulberg traveled to the Soviet Union in 1934, after that trip, he joined the American Communist Party. At the HUAC hearings, he named eight figures in his testimony as well, even though he quit the party years before the hearings. He acknowledged himself that while the fears about the Communist party at that time were probably worse than the actual threat, he named names because he felt the party was a genuine threat to free speech. 11. Does this shed a different light on the discussion? Blues, Dave I don't know, but I think you and I could agree that your statement is not universal. The flames being fanned, such as, "Getting detained while on your way to get an ice-cream..."...certainly do not help the situation in terms of civil unrest. Legal gun-owners want current gun control laws enforced without our own rights being infringed, and take offense when people say we should tolerate some inconvenience for the greater good. As a legal gun-owner, I empathize with those legal immigrants who want their rights similarly uninfringed. On either subject, I have little respect for those who consider the legal rights of others as expendable or less important than their own. Blues, Dave Arizona is an open-carry state, correct? What is the incidence rate of random requests to see a gun registration by law enforcement (assuming that one is required for a handgun in Arizona). I'm going to guess the answer is near zero. What is the incidence rate when that law enforcement officer is engaged in other legal contact (like a traffic stop)? By law, legal-non-citizen-residents are required to carry their green-card at all times, and are expected to produce it upon request. How ofter are there random contacts with people on the street to ask for a green card? What is that incidence rate? Gun control is not a very good parallel to illegal immigration. The reality is that gun control has better cooperation between state and federal agencies than illegal immigration does. It also has better cooperation between citizens and state/federal agencies compared to this cluster of a immigration system. 13. Sorry, BBQ tri-tip from northern California has it all beat. We can close the thread now. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!

  15. He was 37 at the time of his first heart attack. Wendy P. jeez...I know that...it was tongue-in-cheek.... Given his tendency to shoot his friends, probably best that he did get those deferments. Here's a piece of trivia, the lawyer that was shot, was Karl Rove's attorney at the time... So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  16. Because that makes you a ******* ****** *** *******!! What's sad is that if the government secured the borders as mandated, we wouldn't be having this discussion or argument. The reality is that about a third of illegal immigrants are not from Mexico. We really need to open up the discussion a bit. Out of 12-15M, that's a not-so-small 4-5 million that are from...*insert country name here*... The fact that the hispanic population is nervous is indicative of acknowledging the problem while being perfectly willing to sit back and let it happen. 18. Yeah, like perfecting heart-attacks... Cheney received a whopping FIVE deferments, all of which were because he was in college and/or married. http://www.nytimes.com/2004/05/01/politics/campaign/01CHEN.html Yep...read the second page of the article and it gives a rather conclusive time-line. Convenient for sure. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  19. I have two reactions to this. As a human being I am disgusted beyond belief by what Polanski did and can't imagine how anyone worthy of the word 'human' could do as he did. But as a California taxpayer I am appalled that resources that we simply don't have are apparently going to go into incarcerating Polanski. We need to choose our battles very carefully right now when it comes to public resources in California, and I don't see this as the right battle to fight right now. Polanski's status as a fugitive would likely have ensured that he remained outside California for the rest of his life with no threat and no cost to California. We should have left it at that. Since he's on house arrest in Switzerland, I don't think there's too much coming out of California's pocket on this. Lawyers here can clarify, but is the stage of this crap going on taking a huge draw on resources? So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!

  22. I looked it up, I am not finding anything out on it. He ran away from home and started hitchhiking. Nothing is said about joining the military. Yeah I think your right. Must have been the tattoo on his arm that threw me when I was younger Thought this was interesting though: Maynard James Keenan (Singer for Tool) went to West Point. Keenan never received an appointment to go to West Point. He was enlisted and studied at a West Point prep-school. Ed Asner was in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in the early 50s. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  23. While some of those behind the recruiter bans are opposed to the military in general, many really wanted to see the discrimination ended. Same applies to the banning of the Boy Scouts. Opposing policy by imposing a ban is not within reason. I'm curious as to why no one has an issue with the fact that she has actively campaigned for the President in his 2008 and senatorial election bids. That raises the biggest red flag with me. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  24. With respect, being the nation'a too lawyer with a shabby 61-31 confirmation vote is not a parallel run for the highest court with a lifetime appointment. Being Solicitor General makes sense given her background and the President's desire to have a like-minded advocate. That doesn't work so well for the Supreme Court. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
