  1. I don't know that there's a single action Carter took while in office that he'll be generally lauded for. He gained his respectability afterwards when he was able to operate in a winnable situation for him. I give him props for the Camp David Accords. GW Bush has been virtually silent since leaving office. He and his father both. I have to agree with you there. As a republican, I don't like Govs Huckabee, Romney or Palin. Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana may hold some promise, as may Gov. Christie of NJ (he's too much of a straight shooter for some politicos out there though). So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  2. edit: I stand corrected. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!

"...a right the Founders specifically delegated to individuals." Thank goodness! And on the day that the confirmation hearings for Kagan begin... So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  4. Well said. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  5. How you doin' up there? http://www.nationalpost.com/multimedia/photos/gallery/index.html?id=3201093 So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  6. This is related to that ad.doublclick/google ad thing right? Just out of curiosity, for those that it is happening to, assuming that you're not running some type of ad-blocker, are you using Firefox and it's most recent upgrade? I'm just curious because those events seem to coincide and I've given up with the choppy updates to Firefox and gone to Chrome...(which is a pretty fast browser...like wow)... Anyway, I was thinking maybe the two were related, the Firefox upgrade not handling the ad engines or something. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  7. Yea, I'm still excited. As usual, I have to cite them. http://www.bea.gov/newsreleases/national/gdp/gdp_glance.htm I think the numbers are great, as well as the unemp data too. It all needs to be bettered, but considering the mess your dad left us, this is as good as it gets. Vice-president Biden disagrees with you... http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20008924-503544.html They keep changing the message. This administration is not interested in putting people back to work without central planning in every facet of society - energy, health care, finance (maybe)... He's just raised the white-flag on the recovery. It's an admission that the stimulus is not working (though he's on the record saying it has been working "better than they hoped")... 8. Try looking for a Honda VFR/Interceptor (not sure what they were marketed as in UK). They're reliable, comfortable for a commute yet able to mix it up in the twisties for a Sunday ride. Older models (late 90s era) have a 750cc-800cc V-4 engines, gear driven cams. They're nice bikes. Great exhaust note too (even stock). 9. So then, my understanding is the company is paying for $6000 and that is the amount that would be applied in this example and that's well under the limit. I'm not saying my understanding of the law is correct, but I understood the number to be applied is the amount the company is contributing. The tax is on the plan, not on who pays for it. 10. Derivatives trading is not wholly evil. It is trading of those derivatives that allows airlines to control their fuel costs. It is those derivatives that allows developers to maximize their returns on investments, et al. Who said it was evil? All the current bill does is force it into the open, not eliminate it No, it disallows banks to use their, or a customer's money in the process. Now they're going to have to spin off separate companies. As the article noted, it's creating an extra layer of regulation to discourage the risk taking. That will trample innovation on the cutting edge and slow the path of innovation. Even Warren Buffett was not looking favorably at this legislation. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!

  12. It certainly doesn't apply to anything happening in 2011! Here, read the document . . . or don't read it, simply search for the number 2011. If your accountant said this applies to you next year, you seriously need to find a new one. He said it will apply . . . he didn't give a date. Here are the broad benchmarks: These are the key components of the $940 billion health care overhaul bill (H.R. 3590) that is scheduled to take almost a decade to roll out in full. 2010 - Coverage • Subsidies begin for small businesses to provide coverage to employees. • Insurance companies barred from denying coverage to children with pre-existing illness. • Children permitted to stay on their parents’ insurance policies until their 26th birthday. 2011 – Coverage and Taxes/Fees • Set up long-term care program in which people pay premiums into system for at least five years and then become eligible for support payments if they need assistance in daily living. • Drug makers face annual fee of $2.5 billion (rises in subsequent years). 2013 – Coverage and Taxes/Fees • New Medicare taxes on individuals earning more than $200,000 a year and couples filing jointly earning more than $250,000 a year. Tax on wages rises to 2.35% from 1.45%. New 3.8% tax on unearned income such as dividends and interest. • Excise tax of 2.9% imposed on sale of medical devices. 2014 – Coverage and Taxes/Fees and Cost Control • Create exchanges where people without employer coverage, as well as small businesses, can shop for health coverage. Insurance companies barred from denying coverage to anyone with pre-existing illness. • Requirement begins for most people to have health insurance. Subsidies begin for lower and middle-income people. People at 133% of federal poverty level pay maximum of 3% of income for coverage. People 400% of poverty level pay up to 9.5% of income. (Poverty level currently is about $22,000 for a family of four.) • Medicaid, the federal-state program for the poor, expands to all Americans with income up to 133% of federal poverty level. • Subsidies for small businesses to provide coverage increases. Businesses with 10 or fewer employees and average annual wages of less than $25,000 receive tax credit of up to 50% of employer’s contribution. Tax credits phase out for larger businesses. • Independent Medicare board must begin to submit recommendations to curb Medicare spending, if the costs are rising faster than inflation. 2016 – Taxes/Fees • Penalty for those who don’t carry coverage rises to 2.5% of taxable income or $695, whichever is greater. 2017 – Coverage • Businesses with more than 100 employees can buy coverage on insurance exchanges, if state permits it. 2018 – Taxes/Fees • Excise tax of 40% imposed on health plans valued at more than $10,200 for individual coverage and $27,500 for family coverage. 14. The very vultures that regulated us into the mess are now going to fix it.... http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703615104575328020013164184.html?mod=rss_Politics_And_Policy This takes the cake: But, So, that means higher bank fees or fewer services for the rest of us. In the end, the entrepreneurial spirit will be crushed: Meanwhile, after the deal was struck, look at this capture from Drudge, aside from Sen. Dodd's idiotic comments, why is Rep. Frank pulling up his pants? Edit: let me fix that attachment...whoops! So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  15. That rate is still below what it was pre-Reagan for income tax, quit acting as if that tax is high. How about the small fact that all that money has already been taxed, at least once. Given the growth of highly affluent estates, much of it taxed three or four times. The whole estate tax should be abolished. 16. I have a few Army buddies in Wisconsin....that way they could run against her and cite this for part of their campaign. She's so sure of herself too... (notice the hand gestures) even though she's wrong about where Arizona is, and that there aren't any Guard troops on the border......and when you Google "Arizona SB 1070" you don't get a picture of President Obama... It's actually tragic... How many counties touch the Milwaukee area? edit again: Milwaukee is also it's own county.... Here's Supv. 17. No one has mentioned it yet, but I had my old laptop get crudded up with some shit and while AVG and like found a lot of it, it was nothing compared to what the Geek Squad guys found on it...it was amazing. Some people like to poo-poo on Best Buy and the Geek Squad, and yes, I paid over $100 bucks for it, but they did fix it, and thoroughly....just my $0.02. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  18. The app that let's it make phone calls....oh wait......... Just ribbin' ya'! So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  19. It's because of what was said that makes the "what to do" so important. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  20. no he doesn't - let's see what happens I will cede that absolute point. But politically speaking I don't see anothe choice. The culture is not just that of the general. It's his staff too. It's hitting at the President, VP, NSA, and two US Senators. Practically speaking, sure, the President can keep him on. Having said that, I'm quite surprised by Senator Kerry's comments a few minutes ago. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  21. One more thing: President Obama has no choice but to remove Gen. McChrystal from command in Afghanistan. But doing so has the unfortunate effect of disturbing the surge strategy before all additional boots are on the ground. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  22. First, being fired won't mean he's out of the Army. He won't even lose a star. He will however, lose his command and start riding a desk. Gen. McChrystal is saying what anyone who's been paying attention essentially already knew. But UCMJ does have specific provisions about this. I don't know him. I understand that he is largely popular with the troops despite strict ROE. President Obama has the added pressure in that McChrystal was his appointment. Though we all knew the Presidents decision making process for the surge was infuriating. Some additional perspective: Less than 24 hours after the Rolling Stone article, McChrystal is summoned to return to DC to meet the President's. It took 60-something days for him to meet with management of BP. 23. Wanted to revive the thread with some new reports from CNBC: http://www.cnbc.com/id/37779304 Like one quote in the piece, it's difficult to understand why the FCC continues to consider this option. Content providers could just as easily adopt more efficient standards if bandwidth is a real issue (which it isn't, Tier 1 capacity is way underutilized). These regulations do nothing to fix the "last mile" which is where the bottleneck is. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  24. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/7837686/Rahm-Emanuel-expected-to-quit-White-House.html After the mid-terms anyway. Surprising? No. The conflict between him and the rest of the "inner-circle" does surprise me a bit in the sense that I thought he would've been able to temper them a bit. It seems that may not have been the case. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  25. What do you think of the Droid X vs. the Droid 2? Well, the Droid X has an 8MP camera and a whopping 4.4 in screen. The Droid 2 has a QWERTY keyboard (better than the Droid hopefully) and 5MP camera. Otherwise, they're both powerhouses with the Snapdragon processor, etc. If it were me with only those two choices, I'd get the Droid X. Android hasn't won me over yet though. I'm still a die-hard Blackberry fan, and am very intrigued by WebOS. But everyone has their own flavor right? So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
