  1. Will her campaign and her post as SOS be in conflict? Well, she would have to resign her post at State first...but this has been getting floated a lot lately. She's in the cat-bird seat of sorts...seeing first hand the affects of the "apology" tour other issues. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  2. And leave the BBMSGR group?? Exactly. You know, iPhones dont have a messenger group (although, it would be awesome!) Come over to the dark side Luke. I can totally resist the iToy and AT&T's network...with no effort...you just wallow in the knowledge that you don't have BBM and therefore, you suck... Well, not like it works here anyways. Don't worry, it doesn't work back home either, or have you forgotten? Wouldnt know, I dont have BBM BAM! I thought you were talking about your iPhone...lol Actually, depending on your model BB, you could use BBM over there with no issues at all. If there's any wifi, even more so... So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!

  6. How do you simply like the size? This is the first Android device that actually tempted me to leave Blackberry, but I probably won't... 7. It doesn't matter what system you're on. You can send international texts from your Verizon phone to any other text enabled phone in the world. Just prepare to pay anywhere from $.10-$.50 per text. What you need to verify is that you are typing the number correctly (country code, etc). If the cellular standard mattered, then you wouldn't be able to send texts between VZW and AT&T or Sprint and T-Mobile... IF all that fails, use Skype. Another option: Many feature phones (non-smart phones just in case that's what you're carrying) have IM apps for Yahoo, AIM, MSN, etc. If your friends in Poland can do the same thing there with their devices, that is an option as well. Just make sure you have a data plan so save some money. You'll likely see better performance than international texting (which does have lag times) and you're not limited to 160 characters per message. More info: http://b2b.vzw.com/international/Text_Messaging/Europe/Poland.html http://b2b.vzw.com/international/Picture_Messaging/Europe/Poland.html Verify who your friends are using for a carrier over there. 8. What I find ironic is that you embrace these massive takeovers by government, but I suspect you don't truly trust the government...where am I off here? Back to the topic, this legislation is probably more intrusive than the health care law. It touches everything from ATM cards to Wall Street and even worse, it's not what's in the law, but what the various agencies are now empowered to do. Of course, at 2300 pages, we can be assured that no one read this piece of sh*t either. Even worse - this monster doesn't touch Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. So, what problem does this really solve? ATM fees? Hardly a milestone to concern the issues that affected the economy. Car loans? Please. ...but home loan issues, well apparently those don't need to be taken into account with this bill. So, for conservatives, the worry is that the industry will get log-jammed, and for liberals, well, just answer the phone from that lobbyist, because your signing checks off the devil's checkbook and you will pay the piper. I can totally respect one's argument and enjoy the banter of back-and-forth, but really, what sense is coming out of this Congress? None. You cannot claim a victory (assuming you're for this legislation) on this law if it doesn't touch entities that hold 80% of the mortgages in the US, and thus the process by which such holdings came to be. 11. ...I hate this. I usually know just enough to stay out of trouble, but this has me stumped. Certain web-sites that I browse to have embedded Adobe Flash Player clips in them that merely appear as "Get Adobe Flash Player". It doesn't matter which browser I use. I've downloaded the installer, run it, it says a successful install, and I even restart, yet at several sites (say Foxnews.com for example), I can't play video. When I search my PC, I can find no reference to an installed Flash Player product (other than the installer). I'm running Win 7 Professional, 32-bit on a Fujitsu Lifebook T5010. Would other Adobe products (Like Adobe 9 Standard)? Might Kaspersky be interfering? Any clues would be welcome. edit to clarify title So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!

  13. We must live close by each other now! That was just over the 4th in Sacramento (or that area anyway).... To you point: This sums it up - If one kid shits the bed, everyone has to wear diapers. Like it or not, as good as the firefighters are, they are under the authority of the government bureaucracies that administer them. I've yet to see a truly measured government response to an incident when it was called for. The military is very good at it. Sorry to see the FD maybe get hampered by it too... 14. You did the other day, and we were all like, "Hi Chelle!!!" But then you didn't stay... Was that the day we were discussing what to do to the person's cake who didn't share with Deedy? 15. couple hundred miles, but that isn't the point. This isn't about you or me, it's about constitutional protections for Americans. Actually, you made it about me, stating I have no clue what is going on. A couple hundred miles, so that's somewhat vague. I'm in the Sacramento Valley, and we have problems up here that are visible and have little to do with race...and I'm 500 miles from the border. Actually it was 1 rancher and a cop was shot; flesh wound. You act as tho they are daily. Cops get shot everywhere, all the time, therate there is < the average. I don't dispute the broad analysis you make but you discount out of hand, the source and tactics. The rancher was 35 miles north of the border, shot multiple times. The deputy was ambushed - text book tactic using automatic weapons. The federal government has closed off a part of the national park, essentially yielding, ceding US territory to traffickers - 80 miles north of the border. Those are significant by themselves. Typical racist hype. It's agenda that conservatives have latched onto and they're running it intot he ground, as with most things they endeavor. Playing the racist card huh? So, do you favor turning a blind eye to the problem? Is it racism that's made Phoenix the number 2 kidnapping capitol in the western hemisphere? Pre tell.... Nothing that will satiate you, but in summary: An understandable intention marred by poor execution. The legality wasn't the issue so much as the execution of the plan. Are you stating that the round-up didn't serve any benefit? So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  16. How close to the border are you? I may be in Northern California now, but I've lived in SoCal, and the I-5 corridor makes for a pretty quick affect. I have a pretty good idea what's going on. Ranchers and Policemen are getting killed along the border. What do you think is going on? So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  17. Yeah, and if you can get a serial number, then he could find out who bought the gear and pass it on to which ever demo team. That set-up is exactly what the 101st PDT used to use. Seeing as how Red doesn't make an STII reserve (STI Sharpchuter is the biggest reserve he makes)....hmmm... 18. Still irrelevant to my point, which is that the real world effect, on the street, of the new AZ law increases the likelihood of non-federal police in AZ engaging in pretextual profiling stops of Hispanics by a multiplier of, uh... .. 22.7 . We're all going to be looking closely aren't we. When does go into effect? July 30th? So, will we be able to discern between a genuine misconduct of an officer, versus a bait set by someone like ACLU, et al....what do you think? So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  19. Tier I over 50%. Unfortunately, the VA shouldn't be doing it to begin with. I'm at 70% and thus far appear not to be pinging any TriWest paperwork with my service-connected stuff. Or they don't know you have private insurance, or you didn't make enough that year to be required to pay anything. I thought that was for Group 8 veterans (?) Your opinion... mine is my private HC is faster, better, and less BS than the VA. What miffs me about this is that I agree with you. Though it's not apparent from the people I meet, it always ends up being some faceless bureaucrat in the background that no one can find...etc. I wonder what disposition of VA personnel are vets themselves? So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  20. I believe that has been shown to not be the case regarding the AZ law. (multiple times actually, here on this forum even) Wrong; you're doing the same thing Gawain did that I responded to. You're really trying to force a re-hash of the p[rior threads. Anyhow, the law says that "where reasonable suspicion exists that the person is an alien who AND is unlawfully present in the United States" the police "shall" (not "may", but "shall" - i.e., they are required) to "determine the immigration status of a person". The law also allows Arizona citizens to sue for violations of the law, which means that police are "motivated" by the threat of getting sued if they have a chance to check out a suspected illegal alien but fail to do so. This, in turn, means that the practical effect of the law is that when AZ police notice someone "looking illegal", i.e., Mexican features, speaking Spanish, maybe dressed in laborer's clothing, they will fabricate a pretext for going up to then and engaging them. They will then, based on this contact, "develop the reasonable suspicion" that the person is illegal, and ask them for ID/proof, etc. So the practical effect is that, yes, people are more likely to be stopped while doing nothing more than walking down the street. See the previous threads for further discussion. In terms of the federal law, it doesn't matter. Under the law, right now, a cop can ask a guy about his/her immigration status for any reason what-so-ever. SB 1070 as written restricts such behavior, but even if your suspicions are true, technically, they're allowed to do so anyway. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  21. Agreed, but it's the gold standard for establishing "legal status" for all sorts of circumstances. The law does not require that citizenship be established, only that legal status be established. If a valid ID is presented, reasonable suspicion is reduced. If that ID is a Green Card or passport with an in-date/valid visa, suspicion is virtually eliminated. What's the problem here? Did you know that the Supreme Court ruled, 9-0, that a law enforcement officer does not need any reason to ask about immigration status of a person. The rules on the books in California (which aren't enforced) are tougher than what SB 1070 does. 22. His US Const rights would have been violated if there was a trial / sentencing; no way to get an impartial jury after he admitted to it, then the judge decided to think about changing the agreement. But of course the Nevada OJ trial was totally filled with US Const violations too, but you don't see it as that for 2 reasons: - You like the outcome - You don't understand the US Const Guys like you don't care about constitutional rights unless we're talking about yours. Um, there was no trial because he pleaded guilty. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  23. You're ignoring the criticism of the law that I and several others posted in other threads a couple of weeks ago. And in a nutshell, that criticism is that the practical effect of that law will be that police will fabricate bullshit excuses (which are provided by law) as a pretext for being able to demand proof of citizenship from people of Hispanic appearance. I'm not going to re-live that debate all over again, as I'm not all that into deja vu. You know the threads. It's in there. I won't rehash it here either, but those "what ifs"...and I think there's enough scrutiny on this that the LEO are going to be pretty sensitive to the issue, even though they have no legal reason to do so. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
  24. How many of those require you to prove US citizenship or legal immigration status? #4 applies with regard to a passport, but the driver's license varies according to the State. I've never been asked to prove citizenship to donate blood, make a credit card purchase, or any of those other things on your list. I think most Americans would get very pissed off if they had to prove their legal status every time they made a credit or debit card purchase. The point being that we have to prove some type of "legal" standing every day. At the bank, at the liquor store, etc. Citizenship is immaterial to the equation. If you have a valid driver's license and are in a legal contact situation with a law enforcement agent, there is little-to-no reasonable suspicion to question identity, status, etc. There is one time in my life, back in like 1990 or something where some friends and I were horsing around and the neighbors called the police (we were "bumper sledding" on snowy roads in Massachusetts). The cop asked for my ID. I told him I didn't have it on my, so he asked for my name, SSN, and address. He ran a check on me via the radio right there. That is certainly a situation where he had reasonable cause to double-check my identity. He didn't do so with my friends who had their licenses on them. True enough. Should citizens be subject to the same rule? No, and we're not subject to that rule. There are privileges inherent to being a citizen. Too bad so many of us take it for granted. For those that earn their citizenship, they know pretty damn well to make it known their status. Any seasoned cop will know how to manage. ...walks like a duck... 25. I'm goign to be difficult, and say that in those cases, the reason that you can be asked for your license is because of the associated activity, and not just because you're present. The difference comes when one can be asked for papers while walking down the street. And that is a change from what I'm used to in the US. Wendy P. Please point out Wendy where you've been asked for your "papers" for just being around. I will also gather from your inference that you have not actually read the Arizona law, and can tell you that there is no such provision to allow such an event to happen. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
