I think calling Dwain (the person who hit the bridge) an idiot is speaking out of ignorance of his skill, capabilities and achievements. He did push a lot of his jumps to the very limits, but he planned and trained for them all meticulously. He made a mistake at the bridge that he paid for with his life, but I wouldn't say that makes him an idiot. I read on basejumper.com that someone spoke to one of the people in this video, and they said they were using the balloons as a target, but did get a little closer than they had planned..... Go old school with the double edge razor blades.......takes a little longer, but excellent results and no irritation and waaay cheaper than modern blades. Also kind of fun when you get into it. Nothing like a face full of badger brush in the morning!! You can buy a Gillette adjustable double edge razor for about $20 on Ebay, and blades cost around 10c -20c each and last 4-5 shaves usually. Much cheaper than the $18 for 4 5-bladed things. Some cream and a brush and you are good to go! I got mine in last week - havn't had the chance to jump it yet, but first impressions are that its a versatile wee camera, with plenty of mounting options in the box. Trial videos look good on all 3 settings (1080p, 720 and standard). I have it mounted on my helmet so will try some jumps on the different settings to see which will work best since there are different wide angles on each setting. Can anyone give me an update on the Mustang Beach event? I was planning to go on March 25-28, but I am hearing there may be issues with the organization there? I haven't time to read the whole thread so might be repeating stuff here, but...... Attached is a photo of the one I made for my homebrew kegs - it can take up to 6 5gal kegs with room for some fermenters. It started off as a standard white chest freezer. I took the lid off, built a wooden collar, glued that to the body then reattached the lid and used appliance paint to make it cooler! That way you can drill holes for the taps, gas lines etc. without damaging the freezer (or potentially drilling thru the coils!). For Guinness you will need N2 / CO2 mix - called beer gas. You will also need a specific stout faucet - Perlick make the best ones - its worth spending a little more for something that won't lead the precious fluid out! Also an external thermostat is a good idea to save energy and keep it at the right temp. You can use any kind of fridge, with taps coming out the top if you wish, but again, watch for those coils! Go to a homebrew website for more details - I use www.tasteybrew.com - those guys know their stuff and will be a great help if you decide to make your own. Good luck!! So for clarification, are you saying that you have compared the fingerprints from Dwayne and his various aliases with the prints found on the plane that night, and they do not match? Stratostar, I don't think Lucky was the only one thinking that this may at least have helped save a few in an incident like this. I know that trying to get out of a plane that is wildly out of control would be no easy job, but do you care to explain your response? I for one read these forums to get insight and education, so would appreciate some more detail to your opinion.......if, of course, you feel like this is the time and place. But I think there are merits to discussing the topic if there is a chance that changes to standard practices may help save others in the future. Sounds like you all did the BASE community proud!! Now - possibly a dumb question........ You said that the wingsuit jumps were "out of a helicopter. with a trail of smoke, they flew between the skyscrapers and showed outstanding skills" - I was just interested in whether these were done with BASE rigs and taken low - were they flying their wingsuits between the skyscrapers, or did they open above the buildings and fly their canopies between the skyscrapers? Shattering my heel at Bridge Day hurt, but not so bad due to huge amount of natural drugs coursing thru my veins (adrenaline ROCKS!!). When the post-surgery wound got infected and the Neanderthal surgeon had me stuffing brine-soaked gauze into the wound each day, wrapping it up, and then ripping it out the following day, that hurt like buggery (just an expression ) too..... But my worse pain was having multiple Portuguese Man-O-War tentacles wrapped around my chest........it was like having a wire wrapped around you, then plugging in into the mains until it is white hot.......nae fun!!! And then getting to the beach and having a frantic mother screaming "Piss on it!!!" just made things oh so much better!! "No thanks Mum - I'll tough it out 'til I get to the hospital"!! My left is fused from side-to-side movement, and really doesn't give me too much pain, unless most of the day is spent walking. From watching the WOWK-TV footage, and reading the witnesses reports, there doesn't seem to be much speculation about pilotchute in tows, hard pulls etc....... He exits at 18.5s on the video....... The announcer first calls "PITCH!" at 23.5s, then again at 24, 25 and 26s.......and the crowd has a universal intake of breath at 27.5s.......if he hadn't thrown out by the last call of "pitch", which was 7.5s after exit (which I think was close to what Bill Legg did, but he lucked out) then he had little hope. I do agree that a certain level of currency and/or training for this type of high profile jump as well as skydive numbers should be considered, but how do you tell a man who did one of the first ever BASE jumps that he can't participate in this kind of event?? I read that JB gave this man some training before this jump - if this is the case, then I think as much was done as was necessary - he knew the risks involved and knew he was on his own when he stepped up. Full props to him for coming back after being one of the first to ever realise the possibilities of parachuting from things not airborne, and having the drive to come back and re-live that moment of his history.......
