  1. For nice Scottish/Celtic jewellery, try http://www.ortak.co.uk/ coz "if it's no Scottish, it's CRAP!!" Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  2. I hadn't thought about the flying configuration - I was thinking more about the canopy size for landing. Loading your main @ 1.15 would equate to a loading on your reserve of 1.37 - which is pretty high for an F111 canopy, especially considering you won't have had much practice flying it, you may be opening relatively low, landing off, possibly injured.......and doing this under a fairly highly loaded F111 canopy? Not a choice I would make! I presume you took all this into account - what was your justification the decision? Just interested..... Nick Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  3. An unrelated question - why do you fly a 170sq/ft main and choose to use a 143sq/ft reserve? Just to have a nice, neat looking rig?? Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  4. To adjust the first alarm just hold down either the Up arrow button or down arrow button. It will beep - one beep per 1000 feet, and a gap-and-a-beep for 500 feet (if that makes any sense!??). The other alarms are set - I think 2500 and 1500, but may be wrong........ Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  5. Howdy!! Any idea how much the tunnel time is going to cost? Can you book early to reserve a slot and cheaper minutes? Hope to be there this weekend with Kristen....... Cheers! Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  6. I think that's it, followed by something like: "I like girls with big vaginas" Found this info, but don't tell anyone that I'm sad enough to look it up! - 1st + 2nd Season Theme Song "I like women with big vaginas. I'm also a fan of big, fat titties." (thanks to: 3rd - 5th Season Theme Song "I have got a 10 inch penis. Use your mouth if you want to clean it" 7th Season Theme Song "(It) took a while, but hear me talking? Suck my dick and suck it fast!" Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  7. Food for thought.......... I was speaking to a Scottish jumper who told me that he once jumped and didn't realise how cold his hands were getting. Come pull time he couldn't grip anything. All that saved him was the fact that he could hook his thumb into his D-ring reserve handle and pull that. Think of a similar situation with a broken arm/hand/finger...... But as said.......easier to grip, easier to snag...... Also as said.......practice your drills regularly. Enjoy your Wings though!! Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  8. I just saw the photo of the multi-level hybrid that they built at Cross Keys - what a great idea! Does anyone have any advice on how best to build something like that? Anyone on that jump going to let us into their secret for success!?? Cheers!! Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  9. The way I see these things is like this: You know how if you look at your finger then go cross-eyed, you will see 2 of the same finger? What you want to do is this in reverse! Look at the stereogram and you will see that there are usually a line of similar pictures. You want to look at them, and then go "cross-eyed", or out of focus, until 2 adjacent pictures overlap. Hold your focus there, and soon the pic will appear! PS - Hi Haylee!! Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  10. I am a great fan of skypimp helmets (made in San Antonio, Texas). http://www.sky-pimp.com/ They are each custom fitted to your head for a perfect fit, great custom paint job included in the price. Dave used to make a full face freefly helmet, not sure if he still does though......but he does have a good rigid chincup that would help save your chin in a collision, but obviously not as much as a proper fullface...... e-mail him and find out what his full range of helmets is now. He's a great guy, very willing to help and answer questions. Nick Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  11. If you want more specifics on the person you will marry, once the stem has come off, revealing the first letter of their first name, take the stem and poke the top end of it against the apple skin repeatedly in the same spot while going thru the alphabet. When the skin breaks, that is the first letter of the last name of your future spouse. IT'S TRUE.DAMN IT!!! Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  12. Thanks for setting the records straight. I can't believe people are still reading the papers, taking what is said and then putting into their own words in posting here....havn't these people learnt yet!?? Knowing the people at Strathallan, and knowing Alistair and his friends, I was trying to figure out where the reporter got this shite from.....I thought he maybe sniffed out a disgruntled jumper and used their words as the view of the entire DZ or something equally as weak. But it looks like he just made it up, as usual. And now the poor guys at Strathallan have another funeral to deal with, one that will probably be even more difficult to deal with since Andy fought long and hard to beat his illnesses and stay with us....... My thoughts and love go to Andy's family and his skydiving family at Strathallan and elsewhere.
  13. This is awful news......poor Andy - I had no idea he was so ill - I hadn't heard about his haemorrhage or his subsequent struggle, but I know he would have been going on with the determination and strength we all admired him for. I remember Andy back in his early freefall progression days at Stirling Parachute Center when we measured his jumps in RPM rather than in seconds of freefall! When he first turned up for his training, we were all asking where his parents were, and if the instructors had checked his ID, because he looked so young, but we soon realised that this quiet, shy kid had a huge heart and was determined to get good at this skydiving lark, and soon Andy was seen at the DZ more often than the CCI! Although I haven't seen Andy since I moved to the US in 2001, I was thoroughly looking forward to seeing him again on my next visit. I guess that meeting will have to wait a little longer now, but on my next night jump I will be looking out for him - that new, brightly shining star winking down from the Eternal DZ....... You are already missed so much and by so many. Peace, Andy. Nick.
  14. I shattered my calcaneous (AKA heel bone, lives next door to the talus!) at Bridge Day in October. Nearly 8 months later and still not jumpable, every step hurts, might be permenant . Take GREAT care in chosing the right surgeon, as that can make all the difference. Also, if they tell you to wrap your foot up in treacle-covered banana leaves and lie on your back on the pavement shouting "Wibble" at everyone who passes - DO IT! Follow their instruction, especially when it comes to physio. Good luck with it all, and take advantage of all the free time you will have at the weekends to do things other than skydiving! Cheers Nick Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  15. Another voice of reason! Thanks Bella! Here are some beautiful words I stole from another post: Do not stand at my grave and weep I'm not there, I do not sleep. I am the essence of a clear blue sky. I am the yearning to climb very high. I am the breeze you feel as you spot. I am the rapture of flying your slot. I am the rustle of a canopy in flight. I am the flicker of camp fire light. When you pass through the door into open air, I know you're smiling, I am the wind in your hair. So do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there; I did not die. [unknown author] Peace Ali...........
  16. Beautiful! Thank you Jeanne. I hope you dont mind if I cross-post this to the thread for my friend in Scotland who chose to move on recently.......... Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  17. Sweet! Quotes that work! Maybe people will start taking me seriously now! I have no idea when I will be able to jump again.....going to see a podiatristy next week to see if they can help, but its all messed up, definatley not jumpable yet....... .....and I believe this is called a Hijack, right!?? Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  18. *** Hey nick, can you clone that really cute chick you are/were dating?? Trust me - I need all my strength just to handle one Kristen at a time!! And if you were implying that I clone her to share.....I'm far too selfish for that!! She's mine! ALL MINE!!!!! PS - when I reply to a post and make a quote, how do I get it make the line under the quote? I can only get a line above, and then it looks like what I write is part of the quote...... I am so simple sometimes.....! Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  19. QuoteHey now! Are you calling me narcissistic?? _____________________________________________ Of course!! We're all skydivers here, we know that when there is a camera involved "It's all about ME"!!! And who needs friends when you have a dozen of yourself there to play with! A friend does similar work making virtual tours of bars and clubs etc. He uses a 180 degree lens so only needs 2 photos per room......pretty funky stuff! Don't you just love the toys we have to play with these days!!? Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  20. Thanks!! I may have to play around with that some day whe I'm feeling particularly narcissistic!! Toodleoo! Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  21. So are you going to let me into the secret of how you did this? Can anyone use a standard digital camera and tripod or do you need fancy 180 degree lenses or something? If it is a really really simple process that everyone else takes for granted, feel free to use words like "ass" and "dumb" in your reply!! Cheers!! Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  22. Wise words, Holey One!! (Fancy a beer tonight? Give me a call......) . Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  23. Don, You got yourself into this situation by posting your rant on here instead of addressing the people invovled directly, in a mature, adult way. I'm sure your reasoning to the S&TA for your chop was something along the lines of "I wanted to experiance a cut-away in a controlled and planned situation" - that is exactly what tertiaries are for. Please don't flatter yourself by thinking that you were the first person to want to do a cutaway to see what it was like. You need to learn that older or more experienced people DO know more than you, and that you are rarely the first person to think of or want to try something that is new to you, so ask first. These people are there to help you do things in the best, safest way possible. Your response here to just jack everything in because of the flaming you set yourself for, and knew you were setting yourself up for, just goes to show how immature you are, and even if you didn't jack it in now, I really dont think you have what it takes to make it in skydiving. That requires the ability to listen, learn, accept critisizm (often phrased along the lines of "You asshole! What were you thinking!?") and realize that you are not the tits, and probably never will be. Good luck in what you do, and maybe in a few years you will look back on your actions and the way you handled this situation and realize your mistakes and be able to get back into skydiving, and progress in the sport....the right way. . 24. Your avitar being a flea-bitten primate seems rather appropriate. Goodbye.
  25. willhill - read Michelle's posts. Hopefully then you migt realise the stupidity of what you just wrote - A "better idea"!!?? A better idea would be to never make any skydive your last, and to ignore people like you and find the right people to talk to and get the help needed to deal with the situation and stay alive to appreciate and enjoy the life you have been given. Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
