  1. Aye - you can tell that is Andy Gibson - he's always pointing that finger at someone!!!! Howdy Rupert! Might be heading your way in the summer for Russells funeral - er, I mean wedding! Cheers! Nick Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  2. Anyone got any advice on how we could launch a 3-way sit round effectively?? Never tried it, but sounds like fun to try! Cheers!! Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  3. Ahhhh - back to the good old days!! Same climb rate as the Cherokee 6 I started in in Scotland! Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  4. I thought the same thing! Especially since not 3 mins earlier there were about 30 locals crawling all over the plane loading it up with rice - not exactly top secret stuff! I was hoping that if I spoke to the pilot I might have been able to organise a jump. I knew if I went thru the proper channels (i.e. the military red tape) then it would be an absolute no-no........ But, I will keep my eyes open for it landing nearby again next time I am there........ Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  5. HA!! I think the Body Snatchers must have switched the Mo'Fat we knew and feared to turn our backs on, and replaced him with this guy with a very nice, steady girlfriend!! Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  6. Oooh!! I forgot about AOT - and there will be no need to organise anything special for me - from what I remember there are dozens of stalkers and willing stalkees floating around in the wee hours....... When is it this year? My schedule for going back to China is still a bit up in the air, but I should be here another 2 or 3 weeks at least....... Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  7. Gotta love perky!! Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  8. Last week when we were about to leave the office, and a workmate put a new spin on the "lets make like a tree and leave" thing..........he said: "Lets make like a douche........ ..........and get the fuck out!" I almost ended myself laughing at that one!! Yes - that probably says a little too much about me, but what the hell!! Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  9. Have you ever had a gay, male stalker?? I think with photos like that out in the public domain, it may soon be a reality for you!! I am afraid I will not be applying for the job though. If I was gay, there is no way I would go for a dude with skinnier legs than me Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  10. Yes it has - I expected it to be a few serious replies from the REAL plane geeks that I know are out there, cunningly disguised as skydivers! Thanks guys - its been about a year since I posted anything, and this one has made me giggle! Keep it up! Nick Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  11. Who can tell me what kind of plane this is? (see photos, obviously!!) Seen flying around central China. Since there isn't a single DZ in China, I tried to get closer to talk to the pilot about getting a ride to altitude, but the soldiers there wouldnt let me near the thing.........maybe next time............. I love the condor-inspired wingtips!! Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  12. My advice would be to cancel the order, and change to a Creative Zen 60GB - same price (or was last time I looked and when I bought one) and they are WAY easier to use. You can use mp3 (which I dont think the new iPods use) and you don't have to use iTunes - you can use your Windows Media Player, which is FAR easier than iTunes, you can download music from anywhere and it will work........ I love my Zen - it is easy to use, reliable, and compatible with just about everything. Only downside is I wont be able to spend $100s more on crappy accessories that I will hardly ever use!! Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  13. DAGNAM IT!!! i will not be getting back from China until late on the 10th - looks like I am going to miss The Skydiving Event of The Year once again!! Well - it was great catching up with you and others at SkyFest...... Maybe next year......I miss that beacon!! Cheers All!! Nick Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  14. To be able to make a comparrison between injuries and numbers of jumps made from the bridge, why not ask all readers of this post to supply you with the numbers of jumps they have made from the bridge as well as the number of injuries. Since the same cross-section of BASE jumpers (i.e. DZ.com readers) who report the injuries will also be supplying jump numbers, would this not give you fairly accurate results for a percentage of injuries to jumps? I am no statistician (I can barely spell it!), so maybe I am way off the mark, but it seems fairly sensible to me. Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  15. OK - here it is!!! Cheap, easy and feckin GOOD!! One can of frozen lime juice. 3/4 can of decent tickleya One can Red Bull! Ice, blender, et voila!! You dont taste the Bull, but it rounds off the taste nicely...... I ran out of triple sec one drunken night, and thus the Bull Rita was born........ Cheers!! Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  16. Got sent this info today - thought some of you backcountry parachutists might find it usefull to look into. I have no idea about the course myself - the info below was sent to me, so if you do it and it sucks, tough tittes!! But it does sound like there would be some pretty useful info for dealing with cliff strike injuries etc. Cheers. I took the course with http://wfa.net/ and it was intense to say the least. It was December, so the “all outdoor” enactments were radical and the ladies who teach the course are no angels: They will make sure you know everything you need to know to save as many lives as possible in a crisis situation. It was an uplifting experience and I would strongly advise anyone who wants to be a safer riding partner to take that course. You would never fathom who much longer it takes emergency services to reach an injured person 0.5 miles into the forest versus an urban location … it’s amazing what one can do after this course. Packing for a backcountry camping trip will never be the same. If you take the course, you will never look at an emergency situation the same way. Make sure to be ready for a demanding and challenging training. We were beat at the end of the weekend… Enjoy! Anne Villacres mgwadz wrote: Ever wonder if you would know what to do if your buddy hurts himself mtn biking? Or you come across an injured hiker on the trail? I do... The Red Cross has occasional Wilderness first Aid courses. At $100 per person (2 sessions, generally on successive sundays), this is a lot cheaper than similar courses. This is a basic course which can be prerequisite for further study. Running the course requires that they have a group of people. 10 registrants is the minimum. The instructor told me he can set a date based on demonstrated interest (right now they don't have a set date). If anyone would be interested in taking such a course, let me know. If we get a group together, we might be able to have a mostly mtn bikedr group. please email me directly if you would like to be added to a list I will pass on to the instructor. marc [email protected] Team City Bikes Red Cross WFA page: http://tinyurl.com/cduh3 http://www.redcrossdc.org/Online/class_registration.php? action=list&classname=Wilderness%20First%20Aid Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" 17. Yep - got pretty much all of them - the one with the Waterson commentary is sitting next to my crapper at home - getting thru it 5 mins at a time!! Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  18. Put me down for 797. If I win, I may just increase my total jumps to over 2! Cheers!! Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  19. HUGE props to you!! It's not too often you hear of a lawyer brave enough and ethical enough to go out on a limb like that and put in the extra effort to make wrongs right - much repect!! Stickin it to The Man!!! Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  20. Don't think about this one too much.......... They say smoking a cigarette takes 2 minutes off your life........ But it takes 5 minutes to smoke one......... So that's a 3 minute net gain!!! Like I said, don't think about it, just accept it! Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  21. DAMN indeed! That is exactly why I treat driving like jumping - never let yourself get complacent about it......I could never drive like that - one arm around the other seat......takes too long to get that hand back on the wheel when things go squirly!! Don't think that poor fcuker will be much of anything again after that little ding....... Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  22. Sorry Broke - didnt read your post fully..... Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  23. Found it!! I love the way he doesn't even take his arm of the seat next to him!!! It is scary that these people are on the roads next to us, infront of us and behind us, EVERY DAY!!! http://www.ebaumsworld.com/noseatbelt.html Keep your eyes open! Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  24. Yep - the Brits are pretty good at that hard-hitting, don't-care-if-it-upsets-you-as-long-as-it-get-the-message-across kinda films....... Last week I saw a clip (in a defensive driving course to get rid of a speeding ticket !!) of a pretty fat, red-neckish guy driving along, one arm over the back of the passenger seat.....there was some kind of dash-mounted video camera, and he fell asleep.....swerved, and the car flips - he gets rag-dolled around the car, ending up with his head thru the read passenger-side window!! Its a mad piece of video! Unfortunately I couldn't download it, but it was called noseatbelt too...... Driving without a seat belt to me feels like leaving the door knowing my chest strap was undone......it just isn't right! Stay safe!! Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."
  25. If I could afford a Breitling, I would have one! I used to have a really nice immitation, blue face, 3 small dials, don't know model name, but it got nicked in Trinidad. I now have a really sweet Sector 500, whicte face, 3 dials, 2 small digital squares for dates, stopwatch etc. I love it! If they were good enough for Partick De G, they are good enough for me!!
