Hmm, what station were you watching it on? I had it on the major network (abc or nbc or whoever) and they had pregame crap, I saw a GK parachute on one of the small monitors behind them but was hoping that wasn't the actual jump - guess it was. I hate those commentators.

I was kinda thinking of a luge type setup going down hill.. those guys fall out of the bob-sled thingis going pretty damn fast and just slide along the ice.. seems like you could do the same thing with a wingsuit, having it at an angle would have you hitting the ice a relatively slow verttical buy high horizontal, once you hit you're sliding horizontally down the ice at a high rate of speed

I am not sure how you can snag the tip of a cable on something but okay.

It doesn't really matter, some can argue it is safer that way because you can give yoru cables a tug from the top before you exit the plane (or while in the plane) just to ensure they aren't creeping down on you. Some people intentionally do not even route them in those keepers for that very reason. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Watched on discovery last night about Rutan, I already knew a good bit about the whole project but it just fascinates me to see stuff like that - Anyone else watch it?

Well I was working on the flytrack project here and was using a earthmate GPS with a palm. I had a lot of problems with this with respect to the sync times, etc. THe data transformation was great, but it was a big pain to use. I've since moved to the garmin, but haven't had time to try and make the data transformation work for my needs. The gps works great though.

Unless something has changed, Robi told me there are really only a few color choices - not like a "fully custom" birdman suit. He wants to keep it looking like a work of art (in his words) so there are only a few different color schemes that will be offered. So much for an all silver one for me :)

Hey, I haven't had the time to really pick apart the two, was wanting to get one for xmas.. not sure what the key diff's are. It is important to me to be able to schedule stuff remotely, I think tivo does it through their website and it appears replay can do it by connecting directly to the box through your personal firewall. Anyone done their research on these two?

I can take some pictures of my suit the only discoloration I have is on the bootie snap and the bootie pull (on the tip of the toe), I only jump one can of smoke for a few reasons: 1) It's hard for me to get a crapload of smoke, have to use sparingly 2) Having 2 cans on that bracket puts one can awful close to the fabric on the suit, i didn't feel it was worth the risk for me to have that 2nd can that close to my suit. 3) I have been told it was easy to see 1 can from the ground, at least at the Ballunar fest where I did 5 or 6 demos - i'm sure someone here who was at ballunar the year I was jumping can possibly attest to what it looked like from the ground. Of course 2 cans are better than 1 for visualization, but when you compare an M18 to the cold smoke I think hands down the m18 wins. I don't think you can see a single (or even multiple) cans of cold smoke from a wingsuit flight.

Lou posted it in pic 2, that's my bracket on my foot. Envision the bootie coming over the foot as normal, the can hanging off the left side smoke pointing down (so when you're flying it's shooting behind you since your pointing your toes) the red quick release still pokes out on the right side of your foot from underneath the bootie. You can still pull that and get the bracket off relatively quickly. Keep in mind, jumping smoke in itself is generally a scary thing when you think of the possibilities, jumping it with a wingsuit is VERY scary. Just sit and ponder what you'd do if your suit caught fire, not like you can just cut your suit away. I had one scare at a demo where I felt (without a doubt) an ember like burning sensation on my knee area.. needless to say I wasn't looking where I was going most of that flight, I was concentrating on confirming if my suit was on fire. Still to this day can't figure out what happened, there was no burn on the suit - but scared the absolute crap out of me. Didn't land off though :)

I've done numerous M18 smoke jumps with my wingsuit, using the jim wallace bracket.. i modded it just a bit (took one of the 2 smoke brackets off so it only holds one can, moved the platform at an angle) it works great, I have very little discoloration on my suit. Of course my suit is the all silver one and I Think that fabric is less prone to staining than the rest of the colors because of some coating that is on it.
