  1. Booties? damn you yanks have to call everything by some gay name ..boosters sound so much better
  2. Well after almost 7 months without doing a jump due to a broken back I got back in the air this w/e yahoo!. I found that its like riding a bike, once you learn you dont forget. I'm still a bit rusty with rel etc but in terms of general awareness etc, there's no problem. I ended up doing 2 Hop n' Pops to test my new canopy out (and to make sure the openings didnt break my back again!) and by the 3rd jump I was doing an 8 way tracking jump and it felt like normal again. Since you're a student though it might be slightly different, but I think once you overcome any nerves then all the rest should go back into place.
  3. What none of us did that! We were very supportive
  4. Hey guys, just curious as to why its a big no-no to publicise locations of base sites etc or to show vids/pics in the public domain yet there are vids out there like Fistful of F1-11 etc that show BASE jumps from well known buildings in Oz (as an eample) in broad daylight. From what I've been reading about it, this seems like a major fuck up as it can burn a site and also as vids like this are shown at DZs whuffos can view footage like this. Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on it? Cheers
  5. I think this is the one you're talking about...damn its a pisser! http://download.consumptionjunction.com/multimedia/cj_13965.wmv
  6. Is the metal going to be permanent? What did your doc tell you about jumping again? Also does anyone know if rods or plates that are used for a year or so any different to metal that is meant to be permanently left in the body? (is it going to be more stonger etc?) Cheers
  7. If you are thinking about using a huge shirt or whatever for FF keep in mind that it could end up covering your handles (a recent incident in Aus was caused by this) so get someone experienced to check it out and make sure everything is tucked in Cheers
  8. When I downsized to a 150 (WL 1.35) at 150 jumps it certainly helped me stay sharp, I put a lot of effort into being careful etc....then I started to get complacent, not that I was doing anything stupid, just wanted to have fun and didnt really think about what could go wrong. Now fast forward to jump 249...going good until i did an unintentional hook into the ground and frapped in hard and ended up with a broken back. Now that wasnt caused by trying to do a swoop or anything like that it was just a stupid split second dumb mistake which ended up causing me a lot of grief. So are you saying once i started to get complacent I should of downsized further? What if I still frapped in? I would be a lot worse of right now! I agree with you to an extent, I dont think downsizing with the right experience and training is a bad thing and it wlll keep you sharp but complacency will always creep back eventually if you allow it. Also even if you are pretty much on the ball under canopy with a high WL it still only takes that spilt second dumb mistake close to the ground which you would think you'd never do in a life time to seriously fuck you up. Anyway back to jumping again VERY soon so it's all good hehe
  9. What exactly did you do to your back? I busted my back (crushed L1) in may and am full of metal right now, wont get it out till probably mid - late next year. my doc said not to jump till i get it out obviously. I've spoken to an ex-jumper/doc and other people with similar injuries and the news was a bit more encouraging
  10. I always wear lenses when jumping and have never had a problem so far.... WHen you say they pop out, is any of the relative wind being forced into the goggles? That could be enough to dislodge them. Also (i may be wrong here) disposables have a higher water content then regular lenses so they tend to be more 'slippery' so instead of sitting over the pupil and iris they may float around on the surface of the eye and when you blink it is enough to knock it out. So you may want to try permanent lenses...dunno if it'll help though Cheers
  11. So does anyone know the details about it like how many slots, time to height etc? I dont see how any DZ could sustain a Jet with all the runnigns costs, im guessing they would be massive!
  12. 1. What is the meaning of life? 2. How many jumps did it take to get to their current level of expertise? Was it all kainly self taught or did you have a mentor?
  13. Is it just me or does the above quote seem just not quite right??
  14. Havent bothered reading all the posts here so far so I might just be repeating what everyone said but AFAIK most parachuting orgs require a logbook for all jumps. The DZ that you jup at should supply you one for your student jumps. Anyway even if you dont have to for whaever reason you should still do it. Im pissed off acuse I lost my logbook with my original 20 jumps or so when i did SL a few years back, Ive got a new one from when I started AFF last year and reading those first few jumps I made brings back a lot of memories, I can almost picture those jumps perfectly again after having a read of them!
  15. To me it sounds liek these people are a big bunch of hypocrites... I mean skydivers always shake their heads at whuffos who dont understand our sport and why we do it, so whats the difference of a jumper doing exactly the same thing for BASE jumpers?
  16. wake up call RW or Freefly
  17. goto http://www.dropzone.com/forum/Skydiving_Disciplines_C3/Wing_Suit_Flying_F13/Soul_Flyers_Web_Site_P717707/ And read cpoxons post..the website is in french so you need a few instructions on how to order
  18. Not sure if this is the one you are after..... ftp.skydivingmovies.com/public/MartijnVanDam/cowswooping_large.mov
  19. Advice taken... just hope I dont have to wait too long
  20. Ive noticed that the Soulflyers DVD is finally out http://para-net.org:8080/paramag/flashed.html (good luck translating ). Has anyone seen this yet? Is it worth getting? Cheers
  21. Dont forget you might not even have to wait a whole 3 months...docs tend to be on the conservative side when giving adice, you might find after 1 or 2 months it might be good enough to jump then. Just make sure you do all the physio the doc gives you
  22. Australia is 6 months (180 days) currently. AFAIK this has always been the length for a reserve repack cycle. The governing body for Oz if the APF (Australian Parachute Federation) goto http://www.apf.asn.au/
  23. I know what you are feeling mate. Ive been grounded for 5 months with a broken back and will be stuck on the ground for at least another 9 months (they put metal in me so im meant to wait till next year to get it out then a couple of months on top of that to let it heal up again) But im in the same position you are in im VERY tempted to start jumping again by december (im told my spine should be healed enough by then) but the big issue is if i fuck up again i could be in trouble. I still techincally havent made up my mind (still trying to get as much info about the risks etc from qualified people ie. jumpers/doctors) but I really cant see myself going all summer without jumping. In a perfect world I would wait but waiting to december is killing let so i dont see how i can wait for up to a year or more to jump again. But of course ill be ditching my canopy for a larger softer opening one, but before i decide im trying to find out how hard openings will affect me (or terminal reserve openings) if that isnt a big issue then ill probably jump. So should you jump? Well from what ive read on these forums before the general consensus is that you should be able to at least be able to jog/run without pain before u jump. Also 3 months isnt a huge time to wait (not compared to over a year anyway) so maybe you should wait till your knee can handle it a bit better..but its your choice Anyway just letting ya know you aint the only one in this situation
  24. Just mention the amount of gaffa tape that is usually holding together a plane (especially old cessnas )and ask them if they would want to land in something like that...
  25. Great post, I generally clean my cutaway cables using an oil based product. im guessing the oil can cause crap to stick to the cable though if not fully wiped off after cleaning. Can that cause a problem?
