There was a new record set this weekend at Skydive Burnaby in Ontario. 14 way Head Down. I was not on the record jump, but worked on the support team ( this was my first attempt at large formation record jumps and didn't expect to be on the record as there was a good group of experienced jumpers from Ont. Quebec, and New Brunswich). With organizing and video done by Steve Curtis ( he also did 2 camps with us this summer in preparation for this event) the weekend was a complete sucsess and everyone had a great time with no incidents. We all learned a lot and had a lot of fun. The old record was broken on Sat. morning with a 13 way. then again on the last jump Sunday, a 14 way. (Pics. to follow) I would like to thank Steve Curtis, DZO's Mike and Tara Pitt, the packers and all the paricipants (it was really hot and humid and they worked very hard) and the judges for all their effort and time in putting this event together. But after seeing you guys work all day, party all night then get up and do it all again I do apppreciate all you do for the people who use your services. Just got home and I'm happy to see you had so much fun and learned lots from Guy. I was on the record jumps and it was great to see the support team working just as hard as we were. We couldn't have got the record without the support team as some replacements were needed. It truly was a team effort and everyone on the record jumps was glad you and the rest of the team were there to cheer us on and fill in when needed. Many thanks to Guy Wright, plane captains TK Hayes, Jeff Gemmell and Bruce Robertson(right trail rocks), Mike and Tara Pitt(DZOs) who went to all the effort of putting this event together and making it the best event yet this year.It's a really cool sight to see three twin otters spinning up to pick us all up and going to 16,500' We all learned from this event and that will make it bigger and better next time. Mark, keep jumping and gaining skills and if you stay with it I'm sure you'll be on the next one. It's hard for a lot of jumpers to get to an event like this, as it's a big country and we had people from out west, out east, and all points in between. I met lots of new people and lots of people I hadn't seen since the last record in 2004. Everyone was great and a great time was had by all. Now I'm looking forward to the Canadian Head Down record attempts at the end of July. So all you Canadian free flyers come on out for a new record and a great DZ and an awesome time. SO what is the funniest prank you have played or had played on you? I was going to the DZ with my buddy and sitting in his car waiting as he grabbed the last few things. When he came out the door he hit the garage door button and walked out but he didn't realise I had the remote and when he passed under the closing door I hit the remote and the door goes up. He looks at the door, turns around goes back and hits the button again. As he passes the closing door I hit the remote, door goes up. Now he's getting confused. Two more times and he's jumping over the little light at the bottom of the door, I hit the remote, door goes up. Three more times and I'm almost pissing myself with laughter, He finally see me laughing.He felt pretty dumb. I laughed all the way to the DZ. Another time I was assembling some rack in a warehouse and we were up 45' putting beams in. I attached my helpers safety line to the rafter and lowered the lift, so he was hanging from the rafters. I've played since I was old enough to swing a club and hit my brother in the head. Usually shot mid to high 70's. Best round was 2 under par. Still play as much as I can during the week. I jump on weekends. Willy growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional.

I have a Sam 136 ( WL 1.6) and have about 600 jumps on it. Have jumped a Vengence 107(WL 1.9) a few times. Didn't like the opening of the vengence. Not very predictable. Could be the difference in WL. Longer lines than a Sam making for a longer recovery arc. You get used to what you fly and I like having the ability to 'dig out' if needed. I love my Sam. In 600 jumps I have had line twists only a handful of times.It flew straight, kicked out, it's all good. Never had a "hard opening" Never had to cut away.( knock on wood) Can get back from long spots easy. It's very responsive and with the air locks handles tough wind conditions with only a few bumps. It also puts down some great swoops.( enough to keep my hair on end ) Brian builds some great canopies and puts on a great course to teach you how to fly them (other canopies too).
