  1. If you want a cheap alternative. Go to the local Play It Again sports and get a pair of Cooper Alls. ( They hold all the pads under hockey pants) take out all the unneeded pads and you're good to go for about $10 growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional.
  2. So who else has heard of this dropzone dance off. Here's what the awesome Canadian girls came up with this weekend. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brA9MsJc9l0&feature=youtu.be So go to your DZ get a bunch of crazys together and see what you come up with. growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional.
  3. simple answer is yes. If you are in line twists and spinning you are probably wise to get rid of it. How likely to get in line twists compared to a Velo is a different question. I have a Sensei 101 ( made by Brian just before he did the deal with Aerodyne) and have had 2 line twists in close to 500 jumps. First one I attribute to bad body position. ( 3rd jump on it and was used to looking over my shoulder on deployment.) Cut away #1 Lesson learned. second one flew straight and easily kicked out. I'm very impressed with this wing. Brian makes an awesome canopy. Blue Skies Willy growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional.
  4. kinda quick Manta 260 ( student rig) 40 jumps Lazer 210 first rig 175 jumps sabre 150 second rig 250 jumps @1.5 WL Samuri 136 900 jumps @1.6 WL Sensei 101 400 jumps and counting @ 2.1 WL No broken bones!!!! growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional.
  5. First of all, you didn't say how many jumps you have. Secondly, if the Pilot 188 is the goal for your first rig. That's fine. You wouldn't just jump right to that canopy. You would do a progression of jumps on progressively smaller wings til you are comfortable going to the 188. This progression should be guided by your instructors at your DZ. They are the ones who see you fly and can get you to your goal. This may take 20 to 50 jumps or more. It all depends on you and how often you jump. 6. I absolutely love my Sensei. I get great openings and awesome swoops. The recovery arc is a little shorter than the Velo but it will dive as long as I want to hold the front risers down. Brian made me an awesome canopy. growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional.
  7. I started at a Cessna DZ and learned from the beginning how to get the pilot to do rate 1 turns ( 360 degree turn that takes 2 min.) from this I can figure the drift of the lower winds ( opening point) then do it again up higher 7K to figure out the upper winds ( exit point) and never landed off. This is a little hard to do with a bigger plane ( Otters etc.) That is why I hardly ever get on the first load of the day. Blue Skies, Willy growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional.
  8. that wing is not going to be landed anytime soon.... Just need wheels. Like this dude http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZHHZxP5g68 growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional.

  15. Dave was a great guy. For a few years he came home to Canada to organize the Canadian head down record back in 06, 07. He always had a smile on his face and a word of encouragement for everyone involved in the attempts. It was never beyond him to instigate some shenanigans, Like paying Max to jump blindfolded and pull left handed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2iN1BdFk6A&feature=g-upl&context=G267c20dAUAAAAAAAGAA You will be missed but never forgotten. 17. This is a story of courage and strength. I have known him for 10 years and am proud to call him friend. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=349399188424034&set=a.121585857872036.13292.100000618671379&type=1&theater Blue Skies, Willy growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional.
  18. You're completely right. -The camera didn't pull low. -The camera didn't control the canopy flight. -The camera didn't make the bad decision to be there. It keeps coming back to the person who inserted the camera into the chain. Some people think they're smarter than the average person. Some of them actually are. I'd submit that a few of those in the small-format list are very heads-up and experienced, yet they got caught out. We see the incident lists filled with people that think they are more capable, but clearly aren't. The sad thing is that no matter how much talking, whether from a "you're a dumbass" or "how about looking at this differently" position, some people will never learn, all the while ignorant that they're also putting others lives and property at greater risk. I think Brian Germain said it best in "Parachute and it's Pilot" that "IPA or Incredible Physical Agony"is the best teacher for people who think they have Mad Skilz and start writing checks their Skilz can't cash. Whether it is downsizing and swooping too aggressively or strapping on a camera too soon, you don't know what you don't know. It takes a long time and a lot of LISTENING to people with more experience than you to acquire the skilz. As soon as you say "I have all the skilz I need to do this" you are closing the door to knowledge that WILL save your life. Don't be THAT GUY Good luck, I think you'll need it, Willy growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional.
  19. According to the video it's Skydive Hollister. growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional.
  20. Jeb Corliss spent a fortune on a good lawyer. The lawyer was the one who got the charges dropped. If you re referring to Jeb's attempt to jump from the Empire State building The charges weren't dropped. He got 3 years probation and 100 hrs. of community service. growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional.
  21. I would have done what he did. Ride it down to an alt. where cutting away wouldn't result in losing my main and freebag. He had a controllable but not a landable main. growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional.
  22. I'm glad I focused on practising my EPs on EVERY ride to altitude because when it did finally come time (1100 jumps) to use them ( and it WILL come time for you too) it was second nature and didn't seem that big a deal. I just reacted and didn't think about til I was on the ground and saw the video. Blue skies, Willy growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional.
  23. I went from a Sam 136 ( 1.6 WL) to a Sensei 101 ( 2.1WL) and didn't notice a huge change. The only big difference being it comes down a lot faster and has a negative recovery arc like the Velo. You will also find the initiation alt will be higher than the Sam by a couple hundred ft. Stick with the Sam for a few hundred more jumps ( I put 900 on mine) and continue with the coaching.Don't be in a rush to get a Velo. You also have to consider what type of jumps you will be doing. When you go to a Velo ( or other small HP canopy) you won't want to be doing wingsuit jumps or big ways ( jumps where you will be deploying below 2500ft.) The Velo and Sensei sometimes like to take their time opening and are a lot more sensitive to body position at deployment.( learned that the hard way) Good luck, Willy growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional.
  24. Hi everyone, One of our sky brothers has his dog entered in a contest for Fido and needs your help. Just vote for Loki and they will donate $1 for Guide dogs. http://www.fidocastingcall.ca/dogs/14119 Thanks, Willy growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional.
