  2. Fred appears to be talking about this comment: "Affirmative action to me is reparations for sexism, reparations for racism." from this interview: http://prelectur.stanford.edu/lecturers/gates/jsinterv.html It's the only reference I could find in which Dr. Gates speaks of "reparations." Sheesh. If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  3. I see that bill mentioned ODS, but it appears that no one has posted this video yet. I think she does an excellent job of defense: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMJuEOaF84o If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  4. Don't feel bad. My husband is one of those SAP guys, and he didn't either. :) Then there's this: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm I don't use it, nor do I ordinarily use ad-blocking software--I have AdBlock Plus for Firefox, but I normally use IE, and I'm very selective about what I block in InPrivate Filtering--because allowing advertising is one way I can support the sites I use regularly. (Something for people who use ad-blocking software to keep in mind.) When any site starts to slow or outright disable my computer, however, all bets are off, so when the ads on this site started sending my CPU to 100%, I added the ad servers to my hosts file. 5. No, you're not listening at all. You have evaded the entire issue, which is that you wish to combat disagreement with your point of view using violence. You have justified 9/11. You have justified every suicide bomber who ever blew up innocent people. You have justified every dictatorial regime since the dawn of time. You have also justified my sticking you in the woodchipper for your attitude about fat women. If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  6. Which makes them different from you how? . And do you see me telling women or any one how to dress? No, we don't see you telling women how to dress. We do see you making death threats because you disagree with the expression of a cultural perspective. The emphasis here is not on your disagreement with him--everyone in this thread disagrees with him. The problem is not even that you believe your worldview trumps his, but that you believe you should be able to protest his worldview using extremely violent means. This is precisely the principle that led to the destruction of the World Trade Center, btw. No one defended him. Not one person. You are conflating objection to your untenable justification for murder-by-woodchipper with support for his untenable position respecting clothing styles for women. Right. Such assholes execute people for disagreeing with them. You would execute people for disagreeing with you. There is no qualitative difference between the two positions. If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  7. This is good news, although a decade seems to be too short a time. If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  8. Per that article, the 127 address might not be the best one to use. Well then, use: 0.0.0.0 adtechus.com 0.0.0.0 adserver.adtechus.com 0.0.0.0 adtuition.com And remember to make the file "read only." If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  9. The other solution, which works for any browser, is to put the following three lines in your hosts file: 127.0.0.1 adtechus.com 127.0.0.1 adserver.adtechus.com 127.0.0.1 adtuition.com Goodbye ads. Information on hosts file, with links to specific instructions, here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_file If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  10. I haven't seen it, but I did find this: http://culturegarage.com/video/outback_detergent_gets_the_crotch_stench_out_of_lycra/ (Edited to make sense) If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  11. I looked it up in PACER, but the docket goes on forever, so I gave it up. For your information: "MINUTE entry before the Honorable Geraldine Soat Brown: Motion hearing held. For the reasons stated on the record, Para Gear's motions to dismiss under Rule 41(b) 272 and 281 are granted. Para Gear's motion in limine [263 ] is moot. Jury trial previously set for 3/23/09 is stricken. Pretrial conference previously set for 3/10/09 is stricken. The counterclaim is dismissed with prejudice for want of prosecution. Terminate Case. Civil case terminated. Notice mailed by judge's staff (ntf, ) (Entered: 02/26/2009)" If you open a PACER account (cheap--8 cents/page; it cost me $1.84 too give it a cursory look), you can read the whole thing. I forgot to use Firefox, but it's always possible that someone else has looked at it so that it can be found on RECAP (free). 12. I know you know how lucky you are, but I just wanted to highlight the fact that allowing you to live after this: was above and beyond the call of duty. If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  13. No one is bigger than you. When your mind falls into the gutter, fishing it back out and cleaning it up is the right thing to do. If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  14. Yeah, what he said. Yeah, what they said. ;) If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

  16. What's a Muenkel? P.S. You're certainly looking well. I'm glad to know your life is happy.
  17. Truth be told, I was somewhat baiting in hopes to hear a more in depth Nick DiGiovanni-ism and that was a good one. Thank you. Yer a tool...as in a great tool for getting Nick to expound. I think you should do it more often. (I really did believe you guys planned that other bit, although I have been assured that I was wrong. Nonetheless, the interaction between the two of you when you poke him a bit is a great gift. Keep up the good work.) On the subject of this thread, I suggest that the only path of redemption for the Red Bull boys is to get right back up to that exit and start planting (or a reasonable facsimile of same--if they want to pay someone to plant on their behalf, it's not quite as good an atoning act, but it'll do). The SBA should not bear the cost of fixing this, and neither should individual donors. The burden is on Red Bull to make good. (Note to Tom: Who is collecting donations? I doubt that Red Bull will do what they should, and someone has to take up the slack.) If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  18. His whole apologia is a bunch of lame horseshit. A critical read gives you: "It's not our fault; we protested, someone else did it anyway, and the good we've done far outweighs the damage done to a few itty-bitty trees." The way I figure is that if you really mean it, you refuse to act until your demands are met, i.e., "We won't jump if you cut down those trees." Period. I started my personal boycott of Red Bull a few years ago for some other reason lost to the mists of time, but now I wish I'd saved my boycott virginity for this episode. Bottom line: they may not have supported it, but they sure as hell went along with it, and that means they carry as much of the blame for it as the person who did the hatchet job. If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

  20. Me too. Truer words were never spoken. I'm devastated. Love you, Ron. Godspeed. If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  21. And...the way he always wrote it was with a space between the "e" and the "R", thus "Le Roy." I had a moment of forgetfulness, so when I searched my mail, I was unable to find him, until I put the space in...then all his emails magically appeared. We weren't friends at the end of his life, although I finally confirmed the very last invitation he sent me--too late unless he's watching from where he is now--but what many have said of him is true: he never meant harm to anyone, and he made every effort to rebuild the bridges he inadvertantly burned in earlier years. And I agree with you: PTSD and carjacking would have been a far better outcome. His passing is a terrible loss. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. 22. I use IE (IE8, no less), but I fired up Firefox to see what you're talking about, and I got nothing. Then I had to edit my Hosts file and try again. Still nothing. Until you get it sorted out, you might want to add the following three lines to your own Hosts file: 127.0.0.1 adtechus.com 127.0.0.1 adserver.adtechus.com 127.0.0.1 adtuition.com rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. 23. But far more deadly than skydiving. "The CDC estimates that 1 million people in the U.S. have had swine flu so far, and of those infected, the government has documented 593 deaths." If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  24. I saw something on YouTube a few days ago about a "house concert" tour--"50 States in 50 Days,"so I followed the link and ended up here: http://www.kevinmontgomery.com/2009/04/02/the-roadmap-for-the-2009-50-states-in-50-days-tour/ It looks to be a trend, as evidenced by this: http://www.concertsinyourhome.com/ Sounds like it would be a great opportunity if the artist is someone whose music is to your taste, but I wouldn't pay to listen to music I don't like. According to Miss Manners, the proper excuse is along the lines of, "I would love to come, but I'm afraid I'm busy that day." No need to provide (make up) an explanation for what you'll be doing instead. If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  25. ...and then one of my friends linked this on her Facebook page... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adiLJxayfg8 Made me laugh. If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
