  1. Hi mate, i wouldnt buy that first rig for the following reasons. Reserve is 23 years old and too old if u ask me. The jav container sounds like it is in great shape which i would have no problem jumping but it is a j7 which is a massive container and not really much good to you when u downsize. I owned a j5 jav which was big and had a 215 in it, i then jumped a 190 and down to a 170 but that was a loose fit and as far as i could downsize. So really you probably couldnt put a canopy smaller than a 210 in it. The falcon is deffinitely a jumpable canopy with only 90 jumps on it, Sure its old technology and some people at the dz may give u crap about it but they forget how many hundreds of thousands of jumps have been made safely on falcon canopies in the past. So if this rig was real cheap it wouldnt be such a bad buy but its not worth $1500. there are better deals that come up out there. there is nothing wrong with a dolphin container, sure it is a basic container but nothing wrong with them. I brought a 95 model one once which was good for freefly. the second rig doesnt mention a main so its hard to comment on it. cheers
  2. ZPX Fabric Option NOW AVAILABLE! ZPX is a new step in the evolution of Zero Porosity fabrics. It's lighter, thinner, stronger, and easier to pack. This new honeycomb hexagon weave design packs 15% smaller than traditional ZP fabrics.
  3. I suppose not everyone is perfect and instructors do stuff up and make mistakes and unfortunately when they do students get injured. I unfortunately had an instructor for my aff 2 jump who was really an arrogant wanker. I had seen him doing ground school with a bunch of nervous students and was yelling at them if they messed up their climb out procedures. He was the type of person who is deffinitely not a people person. I was very glad that i had a legend of a guy for my ground training who i later on taught to scuba dive and am now good friends with. He took me on my aff 1 jump and i had a blast. I wasn't that thrilled to get this other guy for my second jump but was keen to jump so off we went. After copping some of his abuse on the ground we boarded and i was going over the jump and thought i had it all sorted out. I told him that i had the jump plan down good but was a bit unsure about what to do under canopy, as my first jump i had been told to wait for the instructors instructions through the radio. Of course he shot me down and told me this was not the time to be asking questions. I ended up landing off and he asked me why and i told him that if he had answered my question on the plane we wouldnt be walking back from some farmers paddock would we. That was the first and last time i jumper with that asshole. Although his wife was a very nice lady and taught me how to pack which i was very grateful for and brought her some alcohol.
  4. $88 for 2 minutes ?? Are u for real? How the hell can a bloomin tunnel cost more than a skydive per minute of freefall? I emailed the guy and this is the response i got Thanks for your enquiry. The project has suffered some set backs we hope to be open end next year. Have added your email to the Newsletter list and will update you with any significant progress. Regards Colin In other words i doubt if this will be up and running within the next few years.
  5. Okay what if just before boarding the winds go nuts and you walk back to the shed and the plane goes up without you. Do u get charged for that? There is an empty seat on the plane that another jumper could have used.
  6. I did do a tracking jump with booties and no one else had them and even though im a solid guy i smoked them all on that tracking jump. I was surprised at how they helped me in a track.
  7. Hi mate, There is no reason u cant find or put together a rig that will suit you for around $2000 - $3000. Like u said if u got down to 250 it is deffinitely do able. To stay at the 1.0 wing loading that newbies should be on you will probably need something like a 280 size canopy. There are not many 2nd hand skydiving canopies going around in that size but plenty of 7 cell base canopies like a fox or flik that will be fine for your needs as a skydiver. About while ago i knew of a guy selling a huge container that would fit a big canopy but dont know if he still has it. cheers
  8. if u shoot in hd mode u can grab a decent still off the footage. My ones end up around the 1.5mb in size. Thats pretty good for the average joe who is viewing it on a computer.
  9. what helmet is it going on? top or side mount? do u want a box or a cage?
  10. Hey mate as an example of what u can get a few months ago off eBay I brought a 1995 model rig with 500 jumps on it for $500 us with a saber 170 in great nic and teardrop container and reserve. So there are bargains out there if u keep your eyes peeled.
  11. Congratulations on 2300 sucessful pack jobs, Everyone makes mistakes, dont get down about it.
  12. tell your friend to forget about this gear. In comparison a few months ago i brought off ebay a 500 jump rig with a teardrop container and nice sabre 170 main and reserve all for $500 us. No one should be jumping gear that has 3000 jumps on it.
  13. It would depend on what dz u go to, At my dz they would probably just send u up with an instructor for your first jump to see that u are stable and can pull at a good height and know what u are doing and u would be good to go.
  14. A skydiving license is worldwide and u can jump anywhere. Death statistics are around 1 in every 100000 jumps end in a fatality. Injuries are obviously alot higher. You can play it safe and drastically lessen your chances though by doing a few things like. Dont be a hero and start flying a small canopy before u are ready. Be very careful when learning high performance landings and swooping, Open high, Dont jump in marginal weather conditions, Dont jump when u are not 100% (ie get plenty of sleep and no hangover), Be very aware under canopy and assume that everyone else are idiots who are trying to kill you, Dont rush that pack to make the next load, etc etc. good luck and welcome to the best sport in the world.
  15. the ci at my drop zone who has a million jumps up flies a canopy that has 2800 jumps on it and he reakons its good for 3000. Now i wouldnt feel that comfortable flying such an old canopy but it doesnt seem to bother him. So dont be afraid of a canopy that has 1000 jumps on it if its a good price and it has been looked after.
  16. I feel for you mate, i went through this exact same scenario and it sucked. I asked for my money back at one stage. You probably should tell them what u are feeling but it wont do any good, they wont change. They have your money and u are now a 2nd priority. Let this be a lesson to all potential aff students. Visit as many drop zones as u can and watch what is happening, speak to the current students and ask them how many jumps they are doing in a day and if they are happy. Going for the dz with the most and biggest planes is usually the best option. If u had asked me these questions during aff i would have told you to get in your car and drive away. For all the dzs that treat the students like this U SUCK. Out of the 6 students in my aff class 0 of them jump at that dz now because of this reason. If these fools had half a brain they would see that a student that is going to jump at the dz for years to come regularly is worth more to them than a dam tandem. Good luck anyway mate and hope u get your jumps n
  17. deep seed sell good suits for you but dont bother with the multi speed one. send them your measurements and tell them u have a slowish fall rate that way they can make it out of slick material that will increase your speed.
  18. deepseed make good quality suits mate. I have a few mates with the multi speed suits. I dont really know if u need a multi speed one though, i always thought they were for the people who are heavy and fall fast so u can unzip the suit for extra bag to slow u down. I would think that being 6 foot and skinny that u may have the problem of falling slow, so maybe u could just get a normal suit without the zippers on it. U may need a tight one to make u fall faster. maybe do some jumps with some experienced guys and ask them what your fall rate is like. cheers
  19. Beats me how a sabre 210 gets mentioned in here?? I reakon a sabre 1 is a excellent canopy for someone on a budget looking for a zp. put a bigger slider on it and no worries.
  20. you dont have to have a hypeye. u can go to the settings and change it to power on when u push the on button and not when u open the screen. that way u can press record then close the screen and it keeps recording.
  21. it depends on if your talking about new or second hand gear. I got a good deal on a rig a few years ago and did 300 jumps on it and sold it for a $1500 profit.
  22. My mate got grounded for a near collision on finals that i dont really think was his fault as the canopy in front made a last minute turn to avoid a slightly longer blade of grass. Anyway he had to pick up papers around the dz for a day. A few weeks later the CI had a tandem collision in clouds that put 2 customers in hospital. I asked him when he was going to start picking up papers. He wasn't happy i can tell u that, Man there were a few jumpers within ear shot that tried hard to surpress their laughter though. Whats good for the goose....
  23. Working the door at a nightclub and taking as many back handers as i could get....
  24. I know that the cookie cages were designed so that u had to drill a hole in the helmet and connect the hypeye through the inside of the helmet, pretty sure the same goes with the boxes
