  1. The Britsh Paras are also known as the Red Devils.. http://www.reddevilsonline.com/para.htm Coincidence? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 2. "This thread has drifted so far off topic why not just let it die?" "Polemicize":-To write or deliver an argument; engage in disputation or controversy. Why not let it die? Just for the sake of continuing the discourse, I'm guessing. The discussion is beginning to sound like one hand clapping though. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 3. The dawg jumping all over me when I get home from work, and the wee boy using me as a bouncy castle. Both are unconditional. By the way Kris.... "Quantum materiae materietur marmota monax si marmota monax materiam possit materiari?" Si hoc legere scis, nimis eruditionis habes. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. The silence after the Life Flite chopper has just left with your buddy on board. 15. 5. Disco ball Chris, blue skies .... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  6. Well, the siege of Troy lasted ten years or so, according to Homer's Illiad (Illium being the native term for Troy). It all started because someone nabbed another guy's wife. Loads of heroes went down during the struggle. Dunno if any of that is relevant, the Hollywood version is, of course, kinda unfaithfull to the original story. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 7. If its a dealbreaker, it might be worthwhile getting an external DVD writer. Sony do a good one that I got recently, the DRU 710, I think. Its at home and I'm at work..... edit>>>Does dual layer, if you can get reasonably priced media, and +/- formats
  8. If I were to do it all again, I'd probably go for a Mac, however I also have to run loads of engineering apps that only exist for PC, so have to stay with Windoze. Plus its what I know, and its what all my existing Premiere, Photoshop etc is for. For what its worth, I got a pretty good deal on a Dell recently from their UK factory outlet. http://outlet.dell.com/Emea_Dfo/EuDispatcher?country=GBR&target=InventoryPage&lob_constraint=DIM They sell cancelled custom build jobs here, you have to be quick to snag them, and the site updates every hour at a quarter to the hour. I don't know if they do something similar stateside, might be worth investigating. Do the sums on software costs etc, and see what budget is left over for each option.
  9. So, Deuce....did you ever suss how to get screen grabs? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  10. "What do you think he will gain over here?" Mend the rift created by his ill advised actions over the Iraq debacle. Whether he was right or wrong in Iraq, doesn't really matter now, Europe and the USA need to 'get on with each other'. This is a good thing in my book. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 11. I used to get paid to do it. I was a licensed stalker. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  12. Folk like that just give folk like me a bad name. Jimbo....what flavour?
  13. If you haven't worn it or used it for a year, pass it on, recycle it, or store it in the garage. I now have a double garage that I can't get a car into. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 14. Does his tee shirt really say 'bugger breath'? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  15. Send me some sort of sketch of the velcro closing system, and I'll probably be able to work something out. I've been at a competition where the CCI (our equiv of ST&A) grounded the sidewinders because they had no cutaway, so we jury rigged something for them. Unless your local rules absolutely require a cutaway, I wouldn't worry. I mean, the Sidewinder is pretty much snag resistant, if it can't be snagged why fit a cutaway? For example, you don't see cutaway systems on protecs with mounted radios, or on standard full face lids like Oxygns, Z1s etc, preclude the hazard and you might be able to preclude its mitigation. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 16. "So now it comes out the Bush liked to give the weed a toke or two." Okay, as y'all know I'm not a huge fan of Dubbya, but so what? Something like 2/3 of todays youth have dabbled with recreational drugs, would it be prudent to exclude 2/3 of the population from ever holding office? There are better things to bash Bush with than a spliff and a couple grammes of white powder. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  17. "All the Venezuelans I know are great" I only really know the ones I met down your part of the woods, very nice folks. Just goes to show, people are people , eh? As for the rest of the discussion, I don't really know. I'm not 100% sure Syria/Iran want to fuck over the US, maybe they are afraid of the US fucking them over.....A formal, organised, Islamic coalition? Now that's a scary thought. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 18. "polution necessary to produce hydrogen gas is, at the moment, wildly disproportionate to the environmental savings of burning it cleanly..." Right now, you are probably right, I was listening to radio documentary about Iceland, maybe Greenland, can't recall... they make electricity from geothermal sources, and use it to make hydrogen to power a lot of their public service vehicles. You guys could feasibly use solar/tidal/hydro power, all you are doing is converting energy from a basically static format, electricity, to a mobile or transportable format. So it can be done....it has to be the right location though....so far anyways. Maybe we'll start to see hydrogen tankers on the high seas, similar to LPG tankers. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 19. "I sense a lot of us on the forum have secret 'hippy' pasts." Nothing secret about it. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson

  21. Having spent a lot of time with Premiere 4.2, 5.0, 6.0, and recently 6.5 pro, I'm trying out Elements, and it seems to be a great wee programme. Gimme a couple of weeks and I'll try and break it, find out its weaknesses etc. Right now it looks like great value for money. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 22. "Blair makes me sick. " Well, if you don't like it, move away...ah, you've already done that, so why are you still whingeing? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 23. "when done "right" pulling the materal under the pin to protect the loop and pulling slowly so to keep heat/friction down" Probably the biggest factor in extending closing loop life, IMO. Bugz the pants off me to see people ignore this simple step. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  24. "I mean why not have a National Drivers license? " I have never understood why you guys have 'state licenses'. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  25. "Particularly when the "club" has "rules" that will hurt our economy. " The balance that you talk about is a good analogy Ron, its determining the right 'balance point' for your own economical conditions that is the tricky part. The concept of 'reasonable practicality' has to be applied. IE the cost of the mitigation must not outweigh the percieved benefits. Not being part of the 'club' could hurt you more in the long term, its certainly worth thinking about. Have a good one. Chat more next week, on a variety of subjects, no doubt....
