  1. "Think the US would ever go to war with China to aid Taiwan?" Without SC support? Unlikely, and I don't mean 'Speaker's Corner'. As part of a coalition? every likelihood, but not unilaterally. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 2. "I recently changed from Windows 2000 to XP." Did the change coincide with the start of your woes? I run XP and Prem 6.0 on my laptop, successfully, so it can be done, all we have to do is work out where your bottleneck is..... If XP has messed with your drive settings that may be a cause. 3. Get the license, they are very useful for travelling, or even just visiting other DZs, without a license you will be treated like a student. When I got my D there wasn't much point in getting the A, B, or C, but that has changed of late. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 4. "I get the same results no matter what size file it is. (even for a simple 40 second unedited clip)" Hey JP, Jarno.....I don't see what rendering an unaltered clip would get you. Rendering the timeline is an old trick and often solves a lot of stress (and its a bloody good idea every time you are 'happy' with the results
  5. "Oh pleazzzze, leave him out of here, good old Roddy! I love him and his rusty old voice ... Maggie... " Och, he's great isn't he, Maggie May, an all time classic. And guess what, Old 'Rod the Prod' is getting married again! I digress though, sorry for the hijack, back to Maggie May...It almost never made it, it was a B-side to "Reason To Believe", it was just circumstance that allowed 'Maggie' to fulfill its own destiny. Did you know it was inspired by the woman who popped Rod's cherry? She has a lot to answer for, eh? Maggie May isn't the best from that original album though, I reckon Maggie stands in the shade of Mandolin Wind, which is a far superior track IMHO. Mandolin Wind has a nice bluesy western blend, almost country, but not quite, very reminiscent of the era. If you need to compare the two tracks, I'd suggest you get hold of Rod's 'Unplugged and Seated' album, there are some great tunes, well rendered on that one. My favourites are Tom Traubert's Blues, Handbags and Gladrags, First Cut is the Deepest, and People Get Ready, plus of course the aforementioned Maggie, and Mandolin Wind, it makes a nice skipping stone across the pond that is Rod's career. Ah but I digress, suicidal parachutists...well, I'm still alive so somebody is wrong....or I'm not very good at killing myself. Rhubarb crumble with vanilla ice cream, but is a crumble really comparable to a pie, over to you MrM2? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 6. "China is the biggest reason for this oil crisis." Nice tongue in cheek reply, Kim, and definitely ironic. China needs to wean itself from coal dependency, thats not going to happen for at least a couple of decades, if at all. They just ordered an awful lot of coal fired power stations.... If China's current demand for energy is not satiated, we will see them becoming the biggest polluters in the world, way beyond the damage done by the present holders of that title. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 7. "we(n.z) have heaps of oil under our ground too but we don't want to tap into it. " Umm, Maui field running pretty well, Offshore Taranaki (Mangatoa) is pretty busy, are you sure its because you guys don't want to be producing? Kallend, Billvon, the perfect repository for all that ash, NORM, LSA, etc, is the huge hole left behind by the shale extraction.......pretty obvious really. I've said it before, you can drill the North Slope, its relatively easy to do in an environmentally sound manner, its just not cheap. When the price is right, it will be exploited, the only real issue will be the profit margin. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 8. Okay, are you absolutely sure that your project output settings ar ethe same as your capture...And that there are no filters, slow mos, effects etc running? Try a few simple things.. Shut everything down that you don't need to be running, 'google', find and download 'enditall' which will help. Find and disable or even remove 'findfast', which comes with Office, and really slows things up. Clear any adware or spyware that may have manifested itself on your system. Cancel any 'scheduled' tasks. If none of the above produce the desired results, you may have to partition your drive, so that you are writing your premiere temp files and all your captures etc to a different partition from your applications and operating system. Be sure to repartition as NTFS. It may sound counter intuitive, but I've seen a load of stress resolved by partitioning drives. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 11. "only a handful of citizens outside of neo-nazi and white supremacist groups view gun ownership as a means of keeping the government in check.” This handfull of citizens are all regular posters here, right? "In the Fight Against Terrorism, Some Rights Must Be Repealed " Sadly inevitable, its just a matter of which rights we let them get away with....now thats probably a better discussion.
  12. "Is it really that hard to believe guys?" Hmmm, 20 years in the sport, and over a thousand jumps, and never heard of the Muff Brothers....hmmm. My thinking is that this thread is leaning towards that of a hairy hill dweller. It looks good next to 'Swooping, sport or stupidity?' -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 13. "As far as I am aware you need XP on a PC to run Pro.1.5" Indeed you do. http://store.adobe.com/products/premiere/systemreqs.html Similar spec requirements for Premiere Elements, I think its something to do with the DVD burning side of things, earlier versions of premiere worked fine with win 95 onwards (depending on your definition of 'fine'). We've come a long way from running Premiere on a PII, 266, with 2x 6.4 gig drives, and a very expensive firewire card. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 14. I have a Titanium K-nail, with a bunch of screws at the knee and hip. Its been all over the place with me, the only places it set off airport detectors were the walk through ones in Kuala Lumpur, and in Singapore. Its never set off a wand. Maybe the Asians have more 'twitchy' machines? I've been through security at major aiports such as Auckland, Heathrow, Paris, LA, Houston, Bangkok, Berlin, Frankfurt, Washington, and Schiphol, and Scatsta.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 15. I tend to think of myself as a socialist, not necessarily a Marxist, more like a socialist liberal. None of this shouldn't come as news to my regular correspondents.
  16. "I'm expecting to be walking on pavement most of the time - although I'm waiting to see what the route is." Well fitting sneakers would be my choice, as opposed to 'stout shoes' or hiking footwear. Purely for comfort and shock absorbing, as opposed to ankle support and traction. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 17. "I'm still curious what freek'n treaty? " Probably the Treaty of Waitangi, but I'm not 100% sure, just guessing. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 18. Legacy munitions, landmines in particular, are a very real problem in many parts of the world. But I suspect further discussion of this topic would be better heard over in Squeaker's Corner. Some of the replies on the first link are a wee bit risible though.... ""I'm shocked that the U.N. would bring something like this out. The Brits already have enough trouble with their football fans – how long before they start mining their opponents' practice fields now that someone has presented the idea to them?" " If you see what I mean... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 19. "What were they protesting?" Who cares, Conway. I may not agree with their viewpoint, but I will defend, with my life if necessary, the right (responsibility even!) of these ladies to get their boobies out. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 20. Long Live The Monarchy. Colonialism Rules. Treaty? What Treaty. Anyone with any objections to the above can of course voice their opinions in the now accepted fashion. Please form an orderly line, I'll be attending to you in due course. 21. "Since apparently folks in skydiving are digging odd full metal hook knives from other aspects in the world, I thought they should look at these." Not to my tastes, but each to their own, eh Dave...
  22. What terrain are you likely to encounter, Cora? 20 miles a day on road is completey different to 20 miles a day on mountain tracks/trails etc, and different again to open moorland. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 23. "Lew, is it possible to have a copy of that list or tell me how to get that list." This showed up after a brief google..."dvd player compatibility" showed up a raft of similar sites.
  24. I fear that a six pack would only arouse the beast within, without satisfying its desires. Now thats a dangerous scenario..... Trust me, I'm looking into a transatlantic pipeline, or chartering a supertanker, there must be plenty empty tankers on the return leg from the states these days. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
