  1. "They may be two of the few couples who have cared for each other this long, royal or not." I'd go with that Happythoughts, and echo Christel's entiments. What we have here are two 50 somethings getting married, one a widower, the other a divorcee, let them be happy. Even if one has a face like a melted wellington boot, and the other looks like bulldog chewing a bumble bee. So what? The only good looking 50 somethings around are skydivers..... But keep those jokes coming.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 2. Are you from Europe? Your profle doesn't really give us many clues. Be careful about TV standards and such like, be sure to get a European compatible model, IE emphasise to your chum the importance of the E suffix! -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 3. Tell me John, what would YOU recommend we do to stem this intolerable rising tide of lawlessness? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  4. "When do the cravings go away? Suggestions?" Two weeks in over here....I'm on the nicotine gum and it helps a bit. The other thing thats helping me is to avoid situations where I'm around other people who are smoking. Lets face it, its nasty, and we all wish we'd never started, but its got to be worth a little anxiety....right? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 5. "you'd have to put a fair few hundreds of jumps on it to claim 'used' if you speak to customs." Point being, if its not obviously shiney new, accompanied by invoices, and wrapped up and packaged for shipping, its not likely to attract attention.
  6. Aye folks, but there's Scotch, and there's Scotch, ya has to get the good stuff. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  7. "Americans still admire Confederate traitors and outlaws like Lee and Quantrill" William Wallace, Robert The Bruce, Bonnie Prince Charlie, Robin Hood, Dick Turpin....... Yeah Americans are alone in respecting rebels, outlaws, lollygaggers, rapscallions and ne'erdowells. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 8. "Does anyone have experience of using a video camera as a video player for mini tapes and is there any flaws or potential problems in the plan?" Edit< yes, I've used a PC7 for ages in this role, I also have a minidv deck, thats is just a joyto work with, but its costly.> stress? Not really, not given the amount of use you are likely to put on it. One snag that may get you is that some Euro cams do not have Firewire inputs enabled, dunno if thats a biggie for you. Editing doesn't really put a lot of wear on a cam if you are smart about it. You can probably buy a couple of brand new HC series cams for the price of a new sony deck. Alternatively, look at getting a cheap DVD recorder, and using one of those, unless the issue is space. There's plenty DVd recorders these days for less than 150 quid. Discs themselves are substantially cheaper than minidv tapes, hour for hour and you stand less chance of screwing up your original tapes. I'd go DVD for general playback if I were you.
  9. "its got some fantastic stuff on there." Ain't that the truth. Still browsing it, for toys for my bairn, you understand. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 12. I got nailed by customs on the first rig I bought, and it hurt. These days it almost makes sense to pop across the pond, pick it up, bang a few jumps on it in the US, then legitimately bring it home as 'used' equipment. Most US manufs will ship a rig to a US DZ for you. It will still work out cheaper than paying full duty, and you get a holiday into the bargain.
  13. "even with good spots never came even close to the pea gravel.. " Pah, 3 round reserve rides here, 2 in the peas (one of those from 11 grand!), one very close to the river. Neener, neener.... I hit the peas more by luck than design though. Also, I'd rather not be under a 24ft lopo ever again, I'm not a wee guy!......thank gawd for good PLF training
  14. Did that variant come with a tailgate? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  15. I wouldn't fret it too much, your instructors will train you in the use of the equipment favoured at that particular dropzone. Its not as if you will be given much of a choice on reserve types. I'm going to assume you intend to train at Sibson, as its very local to you. Sibson has a pretty good reputation, you'll be fine. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 16. Its a flying pushmepullyou! What everyone else said, yuckie for jumping methinks. Maybe worth a dibble just for novelty...as long as you realise the potential hazards. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 17. Yep, it looks like a UK number plate, but the guy could be Polish...... Is that a 'scooter' with knobbly tyres? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 18. Can you make any jewelry out of the 'spare parts? I reckon a closing pin necklace would look cool with asome titanium on it too. You'll be fine man, heal soon. You don't need vibes, but I'll chuck 'em out there anyways. I still have a K-nail in place and have been trying to pluck up the courage to get it removed. It set off the metal detectors in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, but nowhere else..... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 19. ooooh, and you can get cute merchandise from the 'wandg' site, they even have stuff for dawgs. I'm predicting a wash of Gromit avatars on the release of the new flick. The bairn was chuckling away at a Grand Day Out at the weekend. His education is progessing just fine! -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 20. I was chatting to a 'Mac head' in the pub last night, he tells me that there are PC 'simulators' that can run on Mac that will run Windows apps. Is this the case? If so, the choice to me would be clear...Mac! Dayumm, I just forked out for a new Dell. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 21. "I hear that Wallace and Grommet are coming to the American Big Screen sometime this year. Feature length film!" 'Cracking' news Lori.
  22. "No, they have their own forms of petulant behavior!" Heheh, true brother, very true. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson

    Skype??

I live in the back end of beyond, today is the day that our local telephone network will be getting broadband activated.... Hello 21st century. I'll probably get skype, but have to sort a few other things out first, like a wifi network for the cottage, a couple of new cell phones, and suss my new DVD recorder fully. Skype is way down my list of priorities, so you guys go ahead and try and break it meantime. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 24. "iDVD will only work with the internal superdrive on the mac..." Tut, sigh, Tsk, you don't get petulant behaviour like that from a windoze machine. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 25. I still think you shuld forget the bling thing and go for an Archos, he could show his chums videos of you skydiving, way cooler than an Ipod.
