  1. Difficult to tell, John, some stats here. http://www.airliners.net/info/stats.main?id=38 attached is snagged from that site..... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 2. Yep, my bad, sorry . "PZL Mielec has been the sole source for production An-28s, and has developed a westernised version powered by 820kW (1100shp) Pratt & Whitney PT6A65B turboprops with five blade Hartzell propellers, plus some western (BendixKing) avionics. Designated the An-28PT, first flight was during early 1993 and it is in limited production. Marketed as the M28 Skytruck, the type received Polish certification equivalent to US FAR Part 23 in March 1996. " Here is a bent one (AN28) from Sward's collection, I think this one biffed in England (Weston?). Let's hear it for P&W. Matt, I think they (AN28) are relatively common in Scandinavia and the Baltic, and popular with jumpers. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 3. "Yeah, I know, I have some messed up taste in music." I hear ya....one the multi changer this morning were (in brackets for the song I was mostly listening to).. Rodrigo's Concerto d' Aranjuez (the adaggio is the famous bit) Lou Reed Transformer (Perfect day) Radiohead The Bends (Fake Plastic Trees). Stevie Ray Vaughan Greatest Hits (Little Wing) Franz Ferdinand (Take Me Out) A Led Zep best of (Trampled Underfoot) The last two were to set an argument straight, I reckon Franz Ferdinand have ripped off Led Zep in this instance, my workmates are unconvinced. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 4. "I had never heard of it before its a fun plane to jump" I'd never heard of it either, so I googled..... Looks like it only recently got FAA approval, so you are probably one of the first in the states to jump one. Its being touted as a replacement for the ubiquitous Twin Otter, and even has PT-6 engines, so they may become more popular, which would be very cool. It looks very similar to an Antonov AN28, which are not uncommon in Europe, I saw one website that indicated that they were the same beastie, but I don't think the AN28 has P&W engines in it. The Skytruck is also known as an M28 if you are googling around, its built in Poland, IIRC. Cracking photo. edit to add a couple of pics so you can decide..... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 5. "I could give up vodka. or rum. Need patron. need patron." Thats cos the sign on the parking lot said "Parking for patrons only". -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 6. Where's Nac and the Crimson Permanent Assurance?" Arr har, I've been temporarily distracted, watching some auditors walk the plank. "It's fun to charter an accountant And sail the wide accountancy, To find, explore the funds offshore And skirt the shoals of bankruptcy! It can be manly in insurance. We'll up your premium semi-annually. It's all tax deductible. We're fairly incorruptible, We're sailing on the wide accountancy! ......" Ar har. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 7. "Isn't a cross-pond meeting of the minds a wonderful thing?" I reckon most folks here have more in common than they care to admit sometimes.
  8. Ar Har, twas a silly thread anyways, yohoho. Me sails are full of wind this fine morn, so I thought I'd go a-plunderin'. Thar be rich pickings in some of these threads. 11. "What do you think - should swastika be delegalized anyway?" How would you "delegalise" it? Censor books, films, archive material....I don't think so. Ban it from public display? Nah sounds a bit like 1984. Ban people from wearing it? See above. Even if it were banned, people who associate themselves with Nazism will simply adopt a new symbol, similar but not exact. see a couple of attachments, one fictional, one all too real. Then if you ban 'similar' symbols, there is a whole new can of worms, such as the Isle of Man's 3 legged symbol. As much as I despise extreme right wing racism, and even bigotry in any form, these people have as much right to express their political beliefs as the more mainstream political parties do. Besides its all a bit of a storm in a teacup as far as I am concerned, a kid made a poor choice of outfits for a fancy dress party, I bet he won't make the same mistake twice. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 12. "I have never been consulted about farting." Welcome back John.
  13. "mmmm, plain bagels with scrambled eggs and cheese on them, mmmm" With perhaps just a dash of Tabasco, and fresh ground black pepper. Yeah, I can see your point of view. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 14. I blame Bush myself. Oh, Halliburton too. Not to mention the presence of large numbers of antipodeans. Miked reckons its was the French wot did it, but I'm not sure. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 15. "This flap has gotten bumped in the plane and has come open." John, I was watching a video of a premature deployment in the door of a twin otter at lunch time... http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=1982 I'd be careful if I were jumping gear that is likely to open if you bang against a door, its not just mals you have to think about. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 18. A wee bit more detail on this story from the Beeb.. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/4262743.stm "Last month a team investigated 72 allegations of abuse by UN peacekeepers and civilian staff. Twenty-six of these, involving soldiers from Pakistan, Nepal, Tunisia, South Africa and Uruguay, were substantiated. In response, the UN introduced a non-fraternisation policy, banning its peacekeepers from having sex with local people. But UN officials stressed they had no power to discipline peacekeepers." "Maybe the UN should have it's own force....... What do you think? " Help a civvy out, how many is 'division strength'? I don't think it would be enough, least ways, they would probably be pretty busy. There are about 11,000 UN personel in Congo alone. Bad idea, much better to have countries 'donate' resources for this sort of thing. This keeps an element of flaxibility and independence from national interests. And who would pay them? Besides, if you 'privatise' the peacekeeping elements, would all the other arms of the UN follow suit? Can you imagine the IMF or the world bank as a corporate body? There's a whole heap of other organisations too.... http://www.un.org/aboutun/chartlg.html Oh, and Dave, I wasn't ragging on the US either! -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 21. "The UN has shown again that it is an in-effective organization." Thats a wee bit like saying Tony Blair is reponsible for the actions of his troops in recent prisoner abuse scandals. Oh yeah, its also a bit like saying the Whitehouse is responsible for all that stuff at Abu Ghraib. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 22. Here's a thread chatting about Sony's 2005 line up. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1421460#1421460 I'm not sure if anything there floats your boat... I'd take a close look at the DCRHC1000, if you are semi serious about stuff. Probably better to go to Sony USA http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_BrowseCatalog-Start?CategoryName=dcc_DICamcorders_MiniDVHandycamCamcorders&Dept=dcc_DICamcorders and have a look at spec sheets, manuals etc. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 24. I spent a couple of days in Singapore just before Christmas, work mostly, only had one night on the lash. Electronics software etc, shopping is apparently pretty good, I only had time to check out the duty free. Had a load of fun down on Orchard road, drank a gin sling at Raffles, and spent a fair bit of the evening people watching on a row of riverside cafes. I could tell you all about fabrication yards, machine shops and suchlike, but I reckon thats not what you are after. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
