  2. I'd second the keep your hands on your own gear. My DZ promotes giving each other pin checks, which is awesome, but many people forget they need to ask first. I dont feel like freeflying with my pin cover open because you gave me a pin check without asking and didnt put it back right. I'm all about safety, all about pin checks, but ask first. 3. Technically, an IAD is more like a FFA in BASE. FFA - FreeFall Assist - Someone tosses your PC after you to ensure it's not gonna get snagged. (This also happens accidently sometimes when someone means to give a PCA but "drops" the jumper.) PCA - Pilot Chute Assist - Someone holds the bridle and PC of the jumper while they exit. Once the pins have popped and the canopy is extracted and beginning to inflate the PCAer lets go. (Also known as the chick shit assist.) SL - Static Line - Jumper uses breakcord (typically 80lb) to assist in a solo jump when there is no PCAer available. They essentially tie their bridle to the breakcord then to th exit point. They jump, pins pop, lines stretch, and the breakcord breaks at 80lbs of pressure. SLs arent necessarily just for sub 200 stuff, it's mainly used when you are jumping by yourself and arent comfortable with a freefall. I use it frequently at a 160ft bridge because no one ever wants to climb down from the 190ft platform to give me PCA. 4. The comments under that video are so ignorant it's not even amusing. The guy talking about flapping needs to be purged from the gene pool. Def not a base jump either. 5. There is also the GoPro 960 which REI is now selling for $180. (REI has a great replacement policy too. Paying for it with an AMEX gives additional security as if the mount brakes you can claim loss due to faulty equipment.) It's a 4:3 aspect ratio instead of 16:9. It's also only 960 instead of 1080 but most people shooting in 1080 dumb down the quality to 720 anyway whether intentional or not. After comparing the video side by side i couldnt bring myself to pay almost double for the full HD when you can really only determine a quality difference when comparing side by side. (Again, thats before editing and converting too.) If you're looking for a good deal on a Full HD gopro let me know. A friend of mine bought a lot to get a discount and the jumpers that promised to take them off his hands backed out. As a consequence he is selling them new in box for much less than retail to try and get his money back. I think a gopro sounds perfect for this jump. Plus, you'll get the best part of the video with a gopro...the splash! 6. Very good point as well. I have owned two turbo vehicles in the past. I recommend a turbo timer. Many turbos are oil cooled. When you shut down the motor it stops the flow of oil and the turbo just sits there and bakes. I had a Greddy turbo timer on both my vehicles and liked it a lot. It allowed me to pull the key out of the ignition and lock up the car while it would keep the car idling for a certain amount of time to give the turbo a chance to cool down. 7. I'd second the previous vote for a Lexus AWD. Lexus are incredibly reliable and maintenance is very cheap since it's Toyota parts. (Just dont get anything done at a Lexus delaership or they charge you out the ass.) I bought an 05 RX 330 AWD with 40k miles for $8k below blue book and I love it. Get's 22 overall mpg. (City and HWY combined.) Another great thing about Lexus is they are in the luxury class of vehicle but with the Toyota backing. I had the luxury of shopping for one for around 9 months and noticed that you only have 1 big round of depreciation, when its sold new off the lot. After that they hold their value very well. (The reason I got such a deal on mine is a looked for 9 months for the exact combo of features and a good price then drove 4 hours once way to get it.) It's common to find VERY good deals on used Lexus vehicles between 40k and 55k miles because thats when people turn in their leases. 11. Great idea for publicity, probably not so much for "getting guns off the streets." The vast majority of people who own firearms are males. The vast majority of people who buy intimate products are females. 12. Public washrooms? BARF. Sure, get your hands kind of clean, then touch facets to turn off the water that someone else has likely touched without soap, then touch the towel dispenser, then touch the door handle that many people have touched without washing their hands at all. Yet another reason there is hand sanitizer in my car, on my desk, and most of the time in one of my pockets. 14. Having worked in the wireless industry for 5 years I find this interesting. What was your source? -Just to clear up, the iphone 4 has nothing to do with 4g on anyones network -Almost every provider can limit your data without warning, there is usually a clause in there that has something to do with necessary resources -Unlimited data is most likely going away with ALL carriers. This is much in thanks to the iphone. Unlimited data was never an issue when people were just doing emailing but now that people are browsing all day long on their smartphones it uses quite a bit more. Again, iphone lead the way with this phenomenon hence AT&T was the first to do something about their unlimited data. -Most wireless carrier contracts are garbage. Ever why how they come up with a standard price for canceling your contract regardless of what type of plan you are on or how much you spend per year? They are typically priced just a little lower than what an attorney would cost you to exploit their piece of shit contract. 15. I bite my nails. I am also OCD about my ass. For some reason I think its always dirty despite taking multiple showers every day and getting a Brazilian every so often. I've been told this is similar to people that constantly wash their hands. 16. Dunno how it works in the UK, but in the US most of the time an agency is a waste of money. There are far too many agencies out there that shouldn't exist. They will take anyone and everyone because they want their money. This willingness to take anyone with money in their hand hurts the agency reputation and other companies are less inclined to call that agency for talent. We burned through 4 local agencies looking for on camera talent before we finally found one that actually has decent talent. My advice would be to have her shop agencies very carefully. See how much talent they already have and how much work they get. Agencies like to brag about how many talents they have but that isnt always a good indication of whether they are good or not. Also have her shop herself around to different production companies. They only care about experience and talent, and many times dont like working with agencies anyway because it costs more and is a pain in the ass. Some of the best were: -Toga (i know, over done but still fun) -Beachwear Party -PJ Party -Playboy Party -Rockstars and Groupie Sluts (BEST PARTY EVER) "If this post needs to be moderated I would prefer it to be completly removed and not edited and butchered into a disney movie" - DorkZone Hero
  22. No one is trying to intimidate you or talk you out of the sport. You asked a question, you got many answers. At this point you are picking and choosing the answers you do and do not like. You have been told time and again how to handle this situation but you dont like what people are saying. It sounds to me like you arent really asking a question, you already know the answer, you are just looking for other to support your position. This is a dangerous position to be in. At your experience level you need to open up and relax. Stop focusing on insisting whether you are right or not and figure out how to handle the situation. You mentioned survival in your many posts. Survival in skydiving is properly handling the unexpected. Period. Learn from yourself, learn from others, learn from instructors. Most importantly ASK questions. It is the only way you will learn. 23. As several others have pointed out context can make this argument go both ways. Personally I think it would be unsportmanlike like to NOT play to your full potential in a real competition setting. However, if it wasnt all about competition and winning then its a different story. For example if it was just a fun friendly game....well, i cant imagine either side had very much fun with a score of 108 to 3. Personally I hate the Pusification of America, but before we can determine what's proper and whats not we have to determine how we are looking at the situation. If the intent is to win, because thats the point, then no harm no foul in wiping up the floor with the other team. If the game was something other than that, well then we would need to know what THAT intent was before passing judgement, and in that case I wouldnt be the first to start throwing stones. (When I was 17 I beat a 5 year old at Starfox and thought he was going to cry. In my defense he was REALLY good and i had to play to my full potential and just barely beat him. My reasoning for beating him was the fact that he was so good and it was so close that i felt i would be cheating both of us by throwing the match. In hindsight this wasnt the best logic when dealing with a toddler.) 24. He got his license at the end of this season. The temperature on the ground here has been in the 20's since November. I think a newly licensed jumper heading to FL to jump and get some tunnel time is certainly an attempt to stay current.
