  1. I agree with what you are saying, and I probably should have clarified. I was mainly addressing the issue of "no refund policies are illegal." TKs solution is obviously the best for many reasons. I wish he would have continued his example of making the video issue right for the girl, because I have a feeling not only did it make her happy but had some additional incentive for repeat business. 2. Lets put something together. We've both driven a lot further for something much shorter. "If this post needs to be moderated I would prefer it to be completly removed and not edited and butchered into a disney movie" - DorkZone Hero

  4. I dont even know why i am still arguing with you. You obviously live in a world where you do the right thing because you HAVE TO. I live in a world where i do the right thing BECAUSE IT'S SMART. 5. I'm gonna guess it was drug related. Up there all by himself in his underwear? 1100 ft is a LONG climb and if he was familiar and seasoned would take 45 minutes or more. For someone who isnt used to climbing towers it would have taken a lot of energy, strength, time, and determination to get up there. Probably got tweaked on something and thought it was a good idea. The good news? I know know of an 1100ft tower with a working elevator "If this post needs to be moderated I would prefer it to be completly removed and not edited and butchered into a disney movie" - DorkZone Hero
  6. Should. Could. But will they? If they cant make the decision on their own without someone telling them to then SKYDIVING IS NOT FOR THEM. Seriously. WTF ever happened to being responsible for our own actions? If someone needs an organization to tell them what decisions to make regarding their own safety because common sense just isnt enough then please get the hell out of my sport. If I recall there is a definite line you cannot cross in bowling. Maybe that would suit some people better that need more structure. 7. Many, many, many businesses have no refund policies. They are in place to protect various costs. What should a dz do when they weather looks iffy? Call everyone and say "sorry guys dont come to work today." Some small DZs prob do that, but thats small DZs. Large DZs cant afford to do that, because if they did they would not be large DZs. 8. No, it shouldn't change anything. If we raise AAD fires to 1000, someone still has to pull by 2000ft. If their canopy takes 1000ft to open then they should CHOOSE to open higher. Or they could CHOOSE not to use an AAD. Other people in this sport do just that for a variety of reasons. It's not rocket surgery. If they do have a two out situation I bet they will learn from it and not do it again. If they dont, well then skydiving isnt for them. 9. I apologize if i offended you and your relationship with gary. I do however see this thing happen all the time. In my opinion however someone being negligent is someone being negligent, even if it's due to ignorance. I am sorry, and I am sure he is a nice guy, but i saw warning flags over 2 years ago when he was selling canopies far below what everyone else was. Margins like that just arent sustainable in the long run and that is not a business I would do business with. Many people saw this coming for a long time. I am sure Gary is a nice guy, but his ignorance/negligence cost a lot of people a lot of money. You say him getting you gear helped you get into the sport. What would have happened if you invested in a full set up and then never got it? Would you have been able to continue? Because thats where a lot of people are right now. 11. Ding Ding Ding! Why should an organization make new regulation holding all its members to certain standards just because some people need someone to hold their hand? You ALWAYS have a choice. 12. WHY? No more regulation. Let DZs and skydivers regulate themselves. "If this post needs to be moderated I would prefer it to be completly removed and not edited and butchered into a disney movie" - DorkZone Hero
  13. Just to play devils advocate here...I have been snapped at on more than one occasion by someone working the front desk at a medical office just because i politely asked a simple question. I understand it's not their fault, that is why i am patient and kind. They should understand it's not my fault they have been asked the same question over and over, and give me a kind and patient reply. 14. Mike, I'm hurt you didnt get in touch with me, thats what I do for a living. J/K. I cant really say I'm hurt since you have a hard time remembering who I am every time we meet. (Although you do seem to always remember my gf.) I'll PM you. 15. Haven't really thought of it this year, so i guess i need to do so in a hurry. For the past 5 years I have given up meat. This tends to be costly and make me gain weight however so I am thinking I am gonna pass on that this year. Alcohol would be a good one, but looking at my calendar for the next few months that would be a hard one. I guess it's supposed to be hard though. 16. We had to let a guy go a few years back for some legal issues. Later found out he screwed a lot more people than us and the FBI had arrested him. Every time someone found out they would be like "Oh no! Not Bob!? I never would have guessed that because Bob is such a nice guy." Moral of the story...if someone was an asshole would you do business with them or let them get close enough to you to screw you? Of course not. What about a "nice" guy? That's how conmen work. 18. My girlfriend was watching it and listening to him was hurting my brain. -He copped out by flipping out of the helicopter so we wouldnt see him flail from him messing up a still air exit. (And he still almost did.) -His numbers and figures were at best "sensationalized for entertainment purposes." (I would rather say flat out wrong.) -He needs to practice water training -He's a pussy. Most people that jump that location use a single parachute system...he had 3 "If this post needs to be moderated I would prefer it to be completly removed and not edited and butchered into a disney movie" - DorkZone Hero
  19. Possibly, maybe, maybe not. The highest snag hazard risk presents itself at pull time, when you are at or near the basement. Typically in skydiving you have a LOT more speed at this point than in base. The scariest sky video i ever saw was the one of the guy getting his bridle snagged on his chin cup and fighting to clear it until his AAD fired, then he had time to make one turn and land. Had he had no AAD he would prob be dead. That video made me wait an extra 100 jumps to jump camera. With that being said I am not anti small format and have one myself. I have only ever used it on BASE jumps though. My opinion is use the right tool for the right job, but no matter what that is ANYTIME you add something you are increasing the risk. I had a close call at the NRG this year because i was distracted, on my back filming jumpers above me with my Sony. The cameras in the LZ show me opening up around 50 ft above the river, which was below the tops of many of the trees. edit for poor grammer "If this post needs to be moderated I would prefer it to be completly removed and not edited and butchered into a disney movie" - DorkZone Hero
  20. Why cant you give me the same respect i gave you and answer me without being a smartass? The canopy and lines isnt the main issue. As someone else already pointed out EVEYTHING needs to be redesigned and everything doesnt necessarily scale down equally. However, since you ignored it when someone else already said it: Small Canopy + Short line Set = not docile = Broken Student Canopy, lines, PC, bridle, reserve (and all it entails), container, harness, risers, cutaway cables, reserve ripcord, etc The issue is getting a manufacturer to engineer, design, and test all that. The harness and container system would be the biggest issue i think. Who is gonna test it? How much R&D do you think goes into our gear? Lets say they do engineer, design, and build something custom for this person. That already entails a LOT. How many prototypes and tests do you think is responsible before selling it to someone? I am finished with this discussion though. You have more jumps than me but dont seem to have an accurate grasp on our gear, how it works, and how it is developed. Because of this it's not really a fair and valid discussion. Looking back I now understand Dragon2's line of thought. 21. Personally I couldnt care any less whether someone beleives in God or not. It cannot be proved one way or the other, so it's a fool's aregument to try and win it. I know what I believe and that is what matters to me. The following arguments and statements always amuse me though when made about this subject: "Open your eyes" "Science says" "No proof" "People can't think for themselves" "Blind Faith" All of these statements/arguments plus many more were directed at people who believed in Heliocentrism before it was later widely accepted. 22. What you are suggesting isn't designing or building, but rather engineering. That is the problem. The current technology that has been developed over decades upon decades wont work when scaled down to the size someone has suggested. That means the wheel must be reinvented. That is IF the person in question is as small as was suggested, but they might not be as there is a "large" range of small people. 23. Just for the record I am not picking on PF, but sort of poking at people that are holding off on ordering suits because the designer isnt working. Maybe it's just me, but i tend to turn problems into solutions, and coloring a wingsuit doesnt seem that hard. As far as marketing goes, well it goes hand in hand with demand. It appears PF demand is very high right now, so maybe they dont need to focus so much on marketing. There is such a thing as too much marketing. If you can't meet the demand, then once again you are the asshole again. We saw this with some of the container manufacturers when they got backed up and I see it with some of my own clients too. (Please note I am not mentioning Tony marketing ONLY because I am not familiar with it. I am sure someone is going to reply with "Well Tony markets blah blah blah" and I really couldnt care less as its not the point. My point would stand for either company.)
