  1. Stargate(s) Voyager MacGyver "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.
  2. 0:3:0 Went to Flora, did a 2 way with a girl that used to jump at my home DZ, and jumped with the Drusts, 2 way with Dan, and a tandem video with Jeanne (test piloting the new main). Bad weather Sunday. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.
  3. It is recommended by Precision for all their canopies, Icarus says it's okay to do for some of theirs. At least you didn't say it's bad because you had "ONE bad" opening and you'll never do it again. I thought it was funny that the rigger I know that packed my first 2 malfunctions, at least 3 lineovers since then, and the tandem instructor that has had 3 lineovers this year from PRO packing say Psycho packing is bad. I've never seen a canopy come with anything but the canopy and sometimes the connector links. The D-bag is made to fit the container, the pilot chute bridle is made to fit the grommet in the D-bag and the pilot chute is in whatever diameter you need. The damage to the cells of the PD canopy was probably due to psycho packing without an extension. The slickest psycho pack that I've seen was on a 78 Xaos, he rolled the extension up in the roll so that attachment point stayed centered, my canopies are too big for that. If you do make your own you should have a rigger look at it before you jump it. It's always a good idea to have someone double check your work no matter what you're doing. 4. I have never seen them for sale anywhere. Most people will get a rigger to make them one or do it themselves. It's a very easy project that can be done on a regular sewing machine. I made mine from 3/4 inch binding tape and sewn together with "B" thread I had ordered to practice sewing with. Just make a loop of bindind tape about a foot long, then sew the ends to make smaller loops on the ends. Make sure at least one of the smaller loops will fit over the hackey and grommet on the D-bag. If you don't do much sewing, Paragear has "E" thread on pre-wound bobbins, get one or two of those. It's stronger and you can use it to repair damaged bits of your gear. 5. I was thinking that the RW one would have a 4 or 3way formation from the top down as the 'heart' part. Do you think that 'RW' or 'FS' would be better? RW I think there should be a conscious rebellion against this whole 'FS' thing. I hear 'FS' and think of free-style. poof. Amen! who's stupid idea was it to try changing RW to FS anyway, that's like calling the breakaway handle a riser release handle. Almost forgot to add, I like the shirt too. 6. Has anybody been doing videos all day, say at least 5 jumps, then did a regular jump without camera wings, and noticed their canopy flying different? With all the talk about R.D.S. and the new low drag risers I wonder where the point is that your clothing makes an impact on canopy performance. 7. I may be going down next weekend, it depends on what gets scheduled at my home dz, and the weather. I told Jaime I wanted to come down sometime other than "The Boogie". How's your friend doing that landed on the taxi way? "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.
  8. Mine's Frankentron. After the lineover burnt a hole in the bottom skin My master rigger and I were talking about taking the canopy apart to use as a model to bulid another one. We ended up patching to get me through to winter so I told him to use any color except orange so it wouldn't match. It's got a red patch on an orange cell with a pink line attachment. 9. I'm betting this is the 182 the Bardstown gang was talking about at Richmond. If so it ran out of gas after dropping the jumpers. That's all I know. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.
  10. My riser covers come open if I fly head down long enough to hit terminal, caused cutaway #4 for me. The toggles came off the risers and tied them in a knot with the slider on the right side. I could steer with the left toggle but couldn't flare because the right front and right rear risers were tied together. Replacing the velcro every year will help, but not for head down. Sit flying won't go either, the spandex pouch will let air in that will push the pilot chute right out. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. 11. 0:5:0 Got to add another night jump, 6 total now. This one went as bad as the last. We had the loads all planned out, my load had two-two ways, going up to 9,000 for some simple RW. Another person showed up so we added a third to my two way since we were low enough on gas for 5 and the next load wouldn't be. We ended up funneling the exit and never straightened it out. 12. I just got night jump #6 in, a 3way RW. We pretty much funneled the whole time until breakoff. I do agree with the people who say do your night jumps before you downsize. You don't want to borrow a bigger canopy to do them with because then you'll be on un-familiar gear. Even if you did go back to a canopy that you've already jumped you should still get a couple day time jumps in on it to re-familiarize yourself with it. Night jumps are awsome and are hard to come by since most people don't want to stay sober long enough or have canopies that aren't appropriate for it. You only missed the pond by 15 feet, so if your canopy accuracy is that good you should be fine. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. 13. By the way, since they haven't found the reserve handle (last I heard), we don't know if the RSL deployed the reserve or if he pulled the handles at the same time or maybe even in the wrong order. I still think we are far better off with RSL's than without, Although I have one rig with a Cypress/Skyhook, the other rig has neither, and I jump with a camera on every jump. 14. We were talking about other peoples weddings and more importantly how did people decide on a day to get married. Most are on Saturdays, but I could never figure out how they picked the actual day. Was it just random pointing at the calendar or was there a method to their madness. So I asked my girlfriend, "When do you want to get married?" In my mind I assumed that all women had already planned out every detail of their wedding and she would have already had a date picked. I don't remember what she said, but I found out the next day that she thought I proposed, and she accepted, so I just went with it. Yep, I accidentally got married, and still made it to the 7 year mark before she gave up on me. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. 15. I have at least 650 psycho pack jobs. A DZO I know likes to give me crap about my openings and says it's the devils tool. Most of my malfunctions that were caused by packing were done by someone PRO packing for me. My lineover was my fault. I knew a master rigger that swore by it, mostly because he didn't have to roll the nose so he could pack faster. It is much easier to bag than a regular PRO pack, and you should get the bridle extension if you plan to do more than try it out. I haven't heard any legitimate concerns about why Psycho packing is bad. You hear people say they got a bad opening but that's pretty vague isn't it. I get plenty of off heading openings. I wear a camera jacket most of the time, and still pull like normal, so I usually turn to the right a little while deploying. I also wasn't stowing my tru loc toggles the correct way and routinely had brake release during opening. Go figure, with only one brake set it turns off heading, and sometimes gets line twists. 16. I like to pull as high as safely possible. Tandem videos are great I can be in the saddle at 4,000. Outside RW video depends on the group I'm jumping with but normally open between 3500 to 4000. I lose at lot of altitude with my new canopy so even pulling first and riding brakes I still land before half of the group. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. 17. I've had several friends die in my 5 years , but they weren't skydiving related; car crash, heart attacks, cancer. Dan was the first skydiving related (reserve bridle entanglement) two weeks ago. I'm surprised that this was the first time for all of us at ISA to personally know someone that went in. 18. What yo need to do is show up Wed. night with us so you can drink the whole day Thurs. and sort of get it out of your system before the big crowd shows up on Fri.. 19. I like it. It seems like doing a Mr.Bill with an elliptical canopy would work better than the old Sabre/Student rigs. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.
  20. I totally agree. Buy the container sized for the 190, it will let you get a bigger reserve. When I bought my new Vector 3 I wanted an even bigger reserve than I got (168 Rmax). At least I should be able to keep this same container when I go smaller since the 150 fits tight already. It's a shame you can't order the rig to fit the canopies you want. 21. Who's in this jump? I know who a couple are already, Stan Slagel, Audrey Tobias, EG, Tony Dommer, James Loveas. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.
  22. One thing I really like about skydiving at small 182 dropzones is the sense of family present amongst everyone. I'm sure that it is present at turbine dropzones too, but not the entire group like we get at home. Last year we had a group of three siblings join our family, Jeanne, Joe, and Dan. There is another brother and sister but they weren't interested in jumping. At first they were almost like tandem students who will wait a while to make their jump and then make a mad dash for the parking lot when they are done. Eventually they came to their senses and started sticking around for story time and tormenting the poor folks at the local Hacienda restaurant. Then we had them in our clutches. They ended up not getting to graduate the same year they started but had made a lot of progress. We had several get togethers over the winter, no ski trip this year, and unfortunately one event was Bruce Johnson's memorial. We had a coach class that they helped us with by "playing" students for demonstration purposes. The annual water training at the Culver Military Academy was fun. We also had a superbowl party, and a film festival, my favorite, go figure. One of the fun Dan stories was during one of our winter get togethers he ended up giving us roadside sobriety tests for fun. People were trying to walk a straight line, stand on one leg, whatever he could talk them into doing. "Nope, sorry you're not drunk enough, go get another beer.", he would say. We would reply with, "Yes officer, right away." Bo and I found out we could drink all day and still pass the breath test at .04 for Bo and .02 for me, while Jeanne failed miserably at .16 if I remember the numbers correctly. There are some better stories to tell but not over the internet with strangers. When we found out Goshen wasn't going to re-open this year we still stuck together and ended up going to Flora whenever the weather would allow. Joe graduated first, then Jeanne. During this time I had started going to church with them and out to dinner after with the family. I didn't know Dan as well as the rest of the family, and luckily I never met him when he was on the job. I guess when something like this happens, being so close, isn't so good. 24. YOU WERE THE ONE!!!!!! OMG!!!! I SO WISH I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT "YOUR" shirt.... dude that was so frickin hilarious... but on another note, Im glad your ok.... Luckily, the guy who runs Flexvision is a good friend of mine and the shirt is still atainable.... I'm glad we can still get one, I didn't have the money at the time. I tried to stop him but was just too far away. At least that was the only "that guy" incident I heard about. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. 25. I'm in! I hope I meet the weight requirement. I would love to try arching on an RW jump once. I get to arch sometimes but it's usually when I'm videoing freefliers on my belly. What kind of speeds do you run? I'm comfortable with 135 MPH, not arching, not de-arching, just relaxing. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane.
