  1. If once I've found the right size container for "right now" as a beginner is it best to get a container built for that exact size or to anticipate downsizing in the long term and have it built for one size down as to be able to downsize twice since i've been told you can go up OR down one size. i.e. I need a 190, have it built for a 170. Put a 190 in it. Downsize to a 170 for a 1:1 when instructed capable and still be ready for a 150 many many moons from now. I'm just thinking that if I anticipate this need now it could save me money in the longrun. Any thoughts? Also, if this is indeed the case, should i use the same reasoning with the reserve? In addition, I've spent a lot of time trying to find the "best" deal on a new container. It seems the best no bells and whistles price would be for a wings container with retailer's 30 percent discount but with the extremely long wait of 16 weeks. Is there a better deal out there?
  2. Thanks, and you're right on about your assumptions.
  3. I was talking to an older gentleman at my work that I knew used to skydive. I told him that I just started and he asked me if I would like to buy his old jumpsuit. It's a Starmaker jumpsuit by Strong. Although it's a little dingy, nothing a good wash wouldn't take care of, it looks different than what I've seedn to date. It's got flared cuffs and pant legs and is made from a really strong canvas type material. It has button up bands for your feet and velcroed inner cuffs along with a thick velcroed collar. It looks like it'd be good when it gets colder but i've just recently started skydiving and don't know the etiquette as of yet. Don't wanna get laughed out of the water but don't want to pass on a good deal. He's sellin it to me for $20. Any advice?
  4. I weigh 160-165. New to the sport and learning as i go. Sorry if my post seems like i'm ignorant but i really AM fresh into all of this. I ran across a really good deal with the rig i bought if for nothing but the cypres so be it, but if it did work out the gate great otherwise i'm exploring other avenues. Probably will either sell the rig as is without the main or pick up a cheap used main and try to sell it for what i can to get what i CAN use right away as to not throw money away on rentals. Just tryin to find the most affordable avenue without compromising safety. Thanks for all the advise. It's great to find a place that you can hear what you NEED to know.
  5. No, just researching. I already planned on upsizing to a 160 reserve if i were to keep the container, but it's looking like i may do better gettin rid of this one.
  6. Just tryin to clarify my original post. I'm actually waiting for a response from the rigger/instructor i spoke with at the dz. By looking at the container he said i should go to a 160 reserve but was unsure exactly how big of a main would fit. He directed me to get the exact volume as i did today. I was just curious since i'm new to this and simply don't know if there were other reputable chute manufacturers or even just other models that may have lower pack volumes. If not that's understandable but thought it would be worth a try. thx
  7. I have a talon 2 container size T5 3.0. Pack volume of 475 cubic inches for the main that originally housed a stiletto 150. Looking for a low pack volume 190 chute suitable for a beginner that will fit. Thinking a 7 cell may help due to less stitching. Don't really know though. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  8. It is a 2003 talon 2 with a T5 3.0 container. It originally came with a pd143 reserve and a 150 stiletto. Really need a main around 190 and am looking for a low pack volume main that could fit, any suggestions?
  9. What is the biggest pd reserve size i can fit in a 415" space?
  10. Hello, I'm new to dropzone and this is my first post. I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me what the biggest canopy size i can fit in a 475" space is? I'm looking for possibly a spectre if that helps any since it's a 7 versus a 9 cell.
