  1. Not on my Cobalt, the rear riser pressure is higher than the front. I don't know why it's different than every other canopy I've jumped. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.
  2. I think so...you look a little..umm...floored...and I saw what you're working with too. lol not impressed I take it thats why i normally keep my clothes on. You were naked more than Naked Larry Ekstrom, at least you had friends with you. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. 3. I like the red thread idea. The first time I did my steering lines I had a very hard time telling my new white E-thread from the new spectra when I needed to re-adjust the length. The next time I discolored the thread with a sharpie before putting the safety stitches in the finger trap. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. 4. Hi Mark, I think I posted my M-series in this thread a while back. When I was going through the order process I noticed the magnetic riser covers and space foam were only listed as being available on the 347 and smaller, is that still true? My 168 R-max and 150 Comp Cobalt fit fine in the 347, and I'll have room to downsize later, but I would have still liked a bigger reserve. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. 5. This is an email I got from George at Precision when I was looking into buying my new rig. I was asking about the 135 Xaos-21. Hi Chris, We have made crossbraced canopies as large as 135 sq ft, but as a result of that experience, we have decided not to offer these canopies in sizes over 120 sq ft. We publish a recommended maximum operating weight limitation of 259 for our largest Xaos canopies just because the mis-managed landing speeds become too unmanageable above those weights. The Xaos-27 can be flown at a wingloading of 1:1, but that's sort of like driving a Ferrari in downtown traffic. At a wingloading of 2.6 : 1, the X-27 118 will physically handle more than 300 lbs, but we de-rate the canopy to 259 lbs Technically, at 240 lbs exit weight, you are in the acceptable weight range for a Xaos-27 98 sq ft. Sound too small? You might want to move up to a 108, but even at 118 sq ft you would only be loading the canopy at only 2.03 : 1, which is well within the normal operating range of the Xaos 27. Call me if you want to talk about it, but believe me when I say you DO NOT want a crossbraced canopy bigger than 120 sq ft. Thanks for your note. 6. You should post a picture so we can see exactly what you're talking about. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.
  7. The pilot is on our list for new jumpers as well. The only bad canopy I've jumped is my Comp Cobalt, and I still love it, if I'm still conscious after it opens. I wouldn't recommend Atair for anyone, except this one guy I don't like. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. 8. What's wrong with this exit? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-xblgzg6XY I didn't even realize the plane was still there for a few seconds. There's no such thing as wasted video, with some fun editing. The guy was having fun, that's what's important, if your not having fun why do it? 9. "They" were talking about Pilots but said it was all Aerodyne canopies. The only ones I've jumped is one Pilot 188 (3 jumps), and a Skymaster 185 (1 jump). They were fine for me but I was glad I was in the peas with the Skymaster (it has a lot of jumps on it for my wingloading and not being a full ZP). "They" were at the picnic tables at Summerfest, I don't know their credentials, they probably think the only good canopies are made by PD. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. 10. There are differences between the Nitro and Nitron, but it's not how they fly. The Nitro has spanwise reinforcement that the Nitron is supposed to have. The Nitro also has some extra reinforcement on the stabilizer attachments. I would say the problems you noticed are unique to that canopy. I have somewhere around 450 jumps on my Nitron 170 and 13 on a Nitro 150 that I demo'd, they both fly/flew great. If you want to be able to use "The Force" to make your canopy turn get a Stilleto. I had several dozen openings on the Nitron with one brake set and the other released before I found out how to set Truloc toggles, it would still open fine, and I could keep it straight with harness input while I collapsed the slider. My lines have so much slack that releasing the brakes has almost no effect, but they are right because the slack goes away with full front riser input. The Nitro turned much quicker, but the wingloading was higher, so I expected that. The biggest difference between them was the harness was much more effective on the 150. They both have very short recovery arcs. On my Nitron I can do a 180 front riser turn at 400 to 450 feet, the Stilleto I jumped was between 500 to 600 depending on the weather, My Comp Cobalt is a tad higher at 550 to 700 depending on weather. 11. Bull. If you don't have any slack the brakelines are too short. You want a slight bow in your brakelines in full flight. With both frontrisers pulled as far as you can the brakelines should still not -quite- pull on the tail. Then they are the right length. Too many people flying around with too short brakelines so the canopy doesn't even fly full flight PD canopies seem especially prone to this, esp older ones with shrunken brakelines. Aerodyne, Icarus, Precision have their factory setting longer and the flare is deeper. Not "bad" and certainly not a reason to shorten your brakelines!! Just personal preference and most PD canopies I see (sabres, stilettos) need their brakelines LENGTHENED. Otherwise the canopy will buck in frontrisers, a common problem when our new jumpers do their A + B license canopy control excersises, or when you take a canopy control course (even a lot of our swoop canopies were set up too short!). You should do this on all canopies You're right on with this one. My Nitron factory brake settings were perfect. The pilot 188 I jumped was set so tight the tail was almost pulled in full flight. My Comp Cobalt was almost as bad, I could only pull about an inch of front riser before it bucked. I would've assumed that a competition canopy would be either set up to use front risers or not have the toggles not set at all like my Nitron was (there was setting dimensions but no finger traps). I have also heard that you need to have additional speed to make an Aerodyne canopy land nicely. I never landed the one I jumped straight in so I don't know from experience. 12. At least they were wearing helmets for safety . I like the music too, but not for skydiving video. I think if you're going to go for more distance you should change it into more of a crossbow/slingshot type of machine. I think I would want to be stable for re-entry. 13. Terry from the Pathetic Loser's pulled a fast one on us with that at Summerfest. They said they were doing a tube jump(I think it was a 9 way) out of the CASA, so I suggested their group go first because it takes a while to line up in the door. We were a little surprised to find he didn't mean the tube exit. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. 14. You left out inner tubes for his bike tires
  15. Are you all replying to what is most UNlikely or likely? You really can NOT see me being a fluffer? Most unlikely, with that girl next door look. So does that mean you could see me as a snake wrangler or a truck driver? Sure why not? "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. 16. I found this in a bathroom on the way back from the Archway chili party last year. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.

  18. If you do them often enough you will notice a change. If you've only done them a few times maybe not. The smaller your canopy is, the more of an effect harness input has. For me going from a 170 Nitron 1.6 W/L, to a 150 Nitro 1.8 W/L was very noticeable. The canopies are identical other than the size and some extra reinforcement on the Nitro. I was able to fly an entire pattern with harness inputs on the 150, with the 170... I had better have a big area to hit . "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. 20. How about an aluminum magnet to pick up aluminum roofing nails? "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.
  21. I had to replace the brakelines on my Nitron, Precision said they use 400 lbs. Dacron. It worked fine on my Nitron because of the low toggle pressure. I used the leftover material to replace the first broken lines on my Cobalt, not a good idea, I don't recommend it. I found out the hard way that Dacron will stretch a lot with the increased toggle pressure on the Cobalt, like 3 inches of stretch. I'm glad I arched instead of PLFing, probably would have broken something. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. 22. I'm not sure exactly where you measure from, but probably the length of the webbing. 19" is a pretty common size. The idea is to just barely be able to reach the slider. The longer your risers are the more toggle stroke you have for flaring. This is more important if your canopy is set up with the correct amount of slack in the steering lines to use front risers. I have 19" right now but I'm going to try a set of 21" when I order my next set. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. 23. I had that happen to my Nitron uhh... twice, once when I released the brakes, and the other when I turned on to final. I made it a point long ago to learn how to rear riser flare every canopy right off the bat, came in handy. I also had my P.O.S. Cobalt snap both the brake lines right where the cascades came together, on opening, on seperate jumps, there was no prior damage that I remember seeing, and unlike the first time it broke a line it was a pretty clean break. 24. How about instead of downsizing you try switching planforms to a mild fully eliptical? I love the Nitro/Nitron, they're quicker than a semi-elliptical but not as twitchy as a Stilleto. 25. Maybe you could just hold the pilot chute in your hand like a drogue, assuming you don't need to dock with your right hand . "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.
