  2. If you are looking for a small 5Hz logger, the Photomate 887 (w/ BT) or Photomate 887 lite (w/o BT) are probably the smallest right now. They measure only a tiny 44x26x15 mm (l x w x h) and weigh only 18g. They have pretty much the same GPS-Specs as the 747A+, since they are also manufactured by Transystems and use the same GPS chipset (MTK2). Only drawbacks are shorter battery life (11h), small on/off switch and you need the BT747 software (opensource) to set it to 5Hz logging, because the included software only supports logging intervals down to 1s. I use the lite (don't need bluetooth) version and I'm very happy with it, especially since I got it very cheap (41$+shipping) from Taiwan on Ebay. Plateau?

Give it a break! I'm not kidding. I experienced the exactly the same a few years ago (when I was a tunnel-junkie like you are now ). Leave the tunnel alone for a month or so. Then, when you go back again, things you can't do now will be totally easy. No.1 reason NOT to be an astronaut: ...You can't drink beer at zero gravity...

  6. I have modified a Kodak V570 and a 705, and as an electronics engineer it was quite easy (for me) to do them. Both of these cameras have a dedicated 23mm w/angle lens (35mm equiv.), and that's the reason I use them. The M1033 starts at 35mm (35mm equiv.), which would be way too narrow for me... 7. 1080 is the (electronic) resolution of the imaging chip, and doesn't say anything about the optical path. It's the same as thinking that the brand new cell phone with a 12 megapixel cam makes better pictures than the older DSLR with only 8MP... 8. Of all those people I know who opened their sony camera to remove the handstrap (including me once), no one actually has put it back on. Unless you plan to sell the camera to a whuffo, cut the handstrap and throw it away... No.1 reason NOT to be an astronaut: ...You can't drink beer at zero gravity...
  9. The camera is charged trough the 5V wires (pins 1 and 4), while the data is transfered through the bus wires (pins 2 and 3). No.1 reason NOT to be an astronaut: ...You can't drink beer at zero gravity...

  11. Panasonic has just announced the Lumix LX5, due for August. I assume that it has to be modified for a remote shutter (like the LX3), but it's certainly a camera I will look at when it's out. I was thinking to buy a Sony NEX-5, but the reviews so far aren't overwhelming, and the price tag is quite high... Until then, I'll keep shooting with my modified Kodak V570 and V705. 12. Get a good coach! With your jump numbers, don't look for the best freeflyer, but for the best teacher. And don't try to do too much time (in "three or four days"), since sore muscles don't memorize as well... Have fun (this is important )! 17. Which Xacti are you talking about? My Xacti FH1 only records 30/60 fps, there's no option for 25/50 fps. Only the analog output is switchable (in the menu) between PAL and NTSC. No.1 reason NOT to be an astronaut: ...You can't drink beer at zero gravity...
  18. This is why I built my own blow switch, using the same pressure switch as the Ultimate-Switch. This way, it suits my needs exactly... But these pressure switches aren't cheap, so I think the Ultimate-Switch package is adequately charged. No.1 reason NOT to be an astronaut: ...You can't drink beer at zero gravity...

  22. Because you can buy off-the-shelve accessories, and don't have to do it all yourself ... photodiode over camera's status led, connected to two comparators with trimmers, to blue and red smd led. 24. I use it, and it works fine for me. But I had to make the box myself and also built my own "cameye" for it. I'll post details about my setup soon. If you are interested, you can download a 1 minute original file of a jump in Puerto Rico from my server. It's FullHD and 60p, with an Opteka 0.3, but it's 184MB and it'll only be there for a couple of weeks. But if I had to buy a camera especially for skydiving, I would probably buy the CX100. 25. Also from Puerto Rico. Not the best, but I like it because it doesn't happen often that I'm in my own picture... No.1 reason NOT to be an astronaut: ...You can't drink beer at zero gravity...
