  1. By my definition, there are no bad tunnels. All tunnels are "good". Some are easy, and some more challenging to fly (but usually more fun, too...). hmm, 2009..hope this gonna be a good one BUILT ! No.1 reason NOT to be an astronaut: ...You can't drink beer at zero gravity...

    Kuala Lumpur

Last time I worked in KL ('03), I went to the tunnel once to twice a week. I had lot's of fun and regret, I couldn't go more often... http://www.mypage.bluewin.ch/aschibli/img/S00401.JPG If your wingloading is accurate, you better bring a baggy suit.for freeflying. KL is a hot place, the whole casino/theme park complex is built on a mountain (thinner air) and it's almost the oldest SV ... If you've been freeflying in another SV, they most likely let you do it there too. And if not, it's probably the cheapest place to get an IBA rating (just an assumption, ring 'em up to confirm). My advice: go and try it out. But don't waste time, you might want go again. No.1 reason NOT to be an astronaut: ...You can't drink beer at zero gravity...

  5. So what are they waiting for? Is there a scheduled opening date? No.1 reason NOT to be an astronaut: ...You can't drink beer at zero gravity...
  6. Don't think they have finished construction, but you might be able to contact them on +7-495-729-5122 or [email protected]. Good luck... No.1 reason NOT to be an astronaut: ...You can't drink beer at zero gravity...
  7. As far as I know, this tunnel is in Abu Dhabi (the capital of UAE) and it's going to be military only. Although this project was started many years ago, the tunnel will be running in the next few days...insha' allah . On the other hand, there were plans for a tunnel in Dubai. I was there last year and, as a tunnel addict, I had to do some research before I went there. According to google cache these plans were on www.skydivedubai.com. But at that time, the page was already offline. The page is for sale now, so I assume, these plans were canceled No.1 reason NOT to be an astronaut: ...You can't drink beer at zero gravity...
  8. Here is a video of the chinese tunnel. (The intro is stolen from a SV video) No.1 reason NOT to be an astronaut: ...You can't drink beer at zero gravity...
  9. Fly a stable position and close your eyes... The "fun factor" is much higher if you do this in a tunnel without walls, though. No.1 reason NOT to be an astronaut: ...You can't drink beer at zero gravity...
  10. I have never seen any Sony camcorder (consumer) released here in Europe before it was released in the USA. I guess because USA and Japan use NTSC, while we have PAL ...(not that I wanted NTSC ) But it looks like these cams will be available in stores here and in the USA around the same time. 12. This is good news! Please tell us what you think about it, once you tested it. Might just be what I'm looking for... No.1 reason NOT to be an astronaut: ...You can't drink beer at zero gravity...
  13. I was assuming that the power is converted to DC first and then converted back to AC with a variable frequency, depending on the requested speed of the motors. That's how the VFDs work that I used to work with so far (for smaller motors, though). No.1 reason NOT to be an astronaut: ...You can't drink beer at zero gravity...
  14. AFAIK the design is more similar to the Aerokart tunnel in Paris. Below the net is another "test section" with smaller diameter (for higher speeds) and separate entry/exit doors. Besides that, the tunnel has only just started it's operation, and I haven't heard of ANY tunnel so far going to 100% right from start... 15. I have no clue how much tunnel time I have. But I keep all the receipts, so at least I know how much my addiction has cost me so far... No.1 reason NOT to be an astronaut: ...You can't drink beer at zero gravity...
  16. I wouldn't recommend Airkix, simply because it's too similar to SVCO (for a trip that long). Bedford is a more different experience. But if you like to party, a new tunnel just opened about 80 miles south of Amsterdam, Holland. www.indoorskydive.com I haven't been there myself, but in the video it looks very interesting... 17. There's a video shot in the new tunnel here. It's in dutch, but you can see Flow (Bodyflying Switzerland), Bernd (Bodyflight Bedford) and some locals I don't know (yet). No.1 reason NOT to be an astronaut: ...You can't drink beer at zero gravity...
  18. So is there any point in buying HD DVD? And about multilayered BD: do you think we will see them on the shelves in the near future, or do we all have to buy the single or double layer units first? No.1 reason NOT to be an astronaut: ...You can't drink beer at zero gravity...

  22. Genting Skyventure is part of a large casino/theme park/shopping complex built on a mountain north of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. http://www.genting.com.my/en/themepark/skyventure/index.htm It was the first publicly accessible vwt in asia. 23. Some things I'm curious about: In order to actually "feel" this effect, the capacitors in the VFDs would have to be huge (at a combined wattage of roughly 1 MW). Any chance to find out the capacity and voltage of them? And another thing I'd like to know: When I was at the Genting Skyventure a few years ago, I witnessed a power failure. Coincidently,at that time the General Manager of the Hotel/Theme Park was flying in the tunnel. He was bellyflying about 2m above the net and hit the net within a second.(Genting Skyventure is non-recirculating with "old" technology, and is therefore not comparable to the newer SV tunnels) The power was out for at least 10 minutes, and during this time the GM was "locked" in the tunnel since the entrance door couldn't be opened. Of course, he didn't have his cellphone in the tunnel so he had no means of finding out how things proceed in "his" complex, which seemed to really piss him off... Is this still the same, or can the door on newer SV tunnels be opened when the power is out ? No.1 reason NOT to be an astronaut: ...You can't drink beer at zero gravity...

  25. You might be able to get an inverting lens, but I'm guessing it would be way too expensive... Easiest way to invert? ...try backflying No.1 reason NOT to be an astronaut: ...You can't drink beer at zero gravity...
